It's interesting that some characters were shown as squares in the editor for me in 1.22, and now in 1.23/Snowglobe 1.1 they are shown as what they are with the same font file. So apparently the lack of support for extra characters in 1.22 had nothing to do with the font.

It did have to do with it, but it is a different font issue. SL carries a list of alternative system fonts to look for, to use for the glyphs it doesn't bring along. That list has been tweaked over time too, so it can work better in some versions than others, depending on what else you have installed. Substitution is an inferior alternative to a more complete font because the style and metrics are mismatched.

Thank you for responding, Suezanne :)

Operating system - Win XP
Browswers - Firefox 3.5.2 and IE 6.0.29

Using SL version 1.18.5.3 with the corresponding Nicholaz viewer (don't laugh anyone...I have an old computer and this works well for me :p)

The fonts that have changed are those in the browser toolbox headings (File, Edit, view, etc.), and in their corresponding dropdown boxes.

The thing I find really strange is this same font is now the font for SL note cards - to the point of changing whatever the existing font was on already existing note cards. The font for texting in SL is fine.

The two things that I did that day were update to the newer Firefox version and for the heck of it, downloaded the most recent SL viewer just to look at it. But when I noticed the change was when I accidentally pressed several keys on my keyboard at once while leaning forward to adjust the monitor. It's like *poof* the fonts changed from there.

It was suggested to me to work with the fonts within Windows, which I have done, but tht does not appear to have any affect (and can't figure what that would have to do with SL.)

I find the design of the DejaVu font family to be better - particularly with the lower-case Ls. I can't count the number of times when I was learning scripting that I had confused the lower-case Ls with Ones.

It is a common problem. With these fonts, look at the changes in the ones and compare them with the L's. The original one has a sharp point at the top with the little cross piece slanted. This helped to define it from the L which was bulnt with a right angeled cross piece.

On the new font, the one looks exactly like the old lower case L.

But like has been stated, it is a simple case of setting the xml file to use whatever font you like. If you can script, you should have no problem at all doing so.
