I was in SL back in 2005 and I remember purchasing land for peanuts and building a small club of my own to have fun. I left SL because I didn't like the movement and back then they didn't have scripts to change your walking style. Here I am again and looking to purchase a small land to only find out I need to pay L$30,000 for 2.2/sq.m. Why is it so expensive now? Do I have to spend a ton of real money in order to establish myself as a resident that looks poor? Where can I go to purchase cheap land in adult zones? I'm beginning to think I waisted $10 getting resident when it really wasn't needed.

You're buying in the wrong location.
Mainland right now is worth from 1.7 to 2L per square meter, but there are still parcels out there with unrealistic prices. Zindra is new, so it is overpriced, but it also isn't moving very fast. I've been watching a few of the same parcels sit for a couple of days now. As more parcels open up, it will get cheaper, unless my concerns about the TOS prove into the worst case scenario. _____________________

I'm guessing we have to wait a very long time for prices to drop and this lag is not going to help much. Should I cancel my account for a few months?

More like a few days, unless you want to buy on mainland - in which case its already extremely cheap.
As long as you're not planning to run a sex club to make money off of people - there's still plenty to do outside of Zindra. _____________________

You were here way before me but I'm interested to know just when you were able to purchase land as cheaply as you're saying. I didn't join until 2007, average land was selling for L$10-15/sqm when I joined (or a month or two after, I didn't dive right into land, although I did dive in too early). First land was scrapped a month or two before but LL hadn't got around to updating their documentation to inform me of that. I've never seen land as cheap as it is now, it's really cheap compared to the previous two years. |

Zindra is new, so it is overpriced, but it also isn't moving very fast. I've been watching a few of the same parcels sit for a couple of days now. Today I saw Zindra parcels with a "this land will go down in price until it sells" message in the About Land window (it was L6.60/sqm at the time). And there are dozens of Zindra sims that haven't yet been put up for sale by the Governor. So, yes: though the double-prim/coastal/roadside parcels may stay high, the 'no features' Zindra land will go down in price. _____________________

I'm a complete noob now. The world has changed and grown much larger then I can remember. I still walk around with no shoes because the item I bought is in a box and I can't drop anything on the ground to pick up and wear.
Honestly, I registered and upgrade my account. I saw land and purchased it in mature. It was very cheap almost free. I can't remember exactly how much I spent. I do know it wasn't hard to get land. Where do I go to purchase cheap adult land? I'm so confused I laugh at myself because I'm a noob. |

(In re your shoes--type "sandbox" in the Search window and go put on those shoes!) _____________________

Inworld click the button that says Search then Land search. Check the Adult box. Select the tab that says Mainland. Sort by price per meter.
If you want cheaper land, check the mature and PG boxes too. Big drop in prices and lots more choices of areas if you don't need Adult land. |

How exactly big is 2.2m? What's considered a cheap price range?

How exactly big is 2.2m? What's considered a cheap price range? Tiny, I think you're misreading something there, are you sure that's not the price per square metre? You can't make a plot that size. |

Are you -SURE- you want adult land?
If you're in a noob state, you might be mismatching your needs here. If you can settle for mature land, you can get under 2L per square meter. _____________________

Tiny, I think you're misreading something there, are you sure that's not the price per square metre? You can't make a plot that size. Now I understand what you mean. Say for example there's land I found L$294 about the size of a dog house. Say I get 5 times the size of that in order to establish a nice club; it'll cost me L$1470. That's $5.95US. Hmmm....so why do some places say L$6,000 are we talking about a large piece of land? |

Oh! I think I see the confusion now. Land comes in many different sizes, and different prices per square meter, too. You want to buy enough land to have enough prims to build whatever you're trying to accomplish, at the lowest price you can find for land of suitable size, shape, and location.
You'll do some shopping around. It's kinda fun. It's a buyer's market right now, if that's any encouragement. You may want to enlist somebody with recent land buying experience as an accomplice on your quest. _____________________

Also don't forget associated tier costs, the more land you own, the more your monthly bills.

Tier costs (if you have a parcel that's 'in between' these sizes, you pay the price for the next-higher tier):
Cost Sq. Meters Amount of Land USD 195.00/ month 65,536 ...( Entire Region USD 125.00/ month 32,768 ...( 1/2 Region USD 75.00/ month 16,384 ...( 1/4 Region USD 40.00/ month 8,192 ...( 1/8 Region USD 25.00/ month 4,096 ...( 1/16 Region USD 15.00/ month 2,048 ...( 1/32 Region USD 8.00/ month 1,024 ...( 1/64 Region USD 5.00/ month 512 ...( 1/128 Region USD 0.00/ month 0 ...( 0/128 Region _____________________

Basic price for a 512 on Zindra right now is about 6L/sqm.
Zindra protected road is 11.5L/sqm. On mature however, 1.9 for protected land, cheaper if not (based on the roadside 512s still for sale on my sim and the sims nearby). This is why I'm thinking the OP should really make sure that he needs 'Adult' and not just 'Mature.' What specific things do you plan to do that you think make you need adult land? _____________________

I bought a few small parcels in Jessie today, just for the hell of it.
Even at the 20/m agreed, it was maybe a bit over the top. The asking was 52/m When you see half that sim in yellow, you know something is going on. All the excitement has moved on. Jessie seems to be more 'predictable' these days, if you don't mind being killed by the occasional missile. http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2009/08/sl-military-roleplay.html _____________________

I'm looking for an area that's not leaned towards Disneyland. I want to do anything and everything. I hate rules and would very much like to not have rules. I know in mature you can do anything but they've added the adult and I don't know what the difference is. All I know is adult sounds a bit more nasty and that's more for my taste. I hate to be around kids.

Well I know its insane, but they've said child avatars are allowed on Adult land.
Which baffles me, because nude avatars are not allowed on PG... So they get to go where they want, but others get restricted. You won't be able to avoid them. The only way you can keep them out is to hire someone to get naked and hop on 'do it yourself' sex poseball 24/7 in the middle of your land - child avatars aren't allowed to be near sex acts. The current community claim seems to be that adult is only required if you are advertising sex and sex toys or charging for sex and sex toys. Otherwise, adult and mature are the same. - But there seems to be a lack of a quote from the lindens on this anytime in recent days, since all the adult stuff opened. _____________________

I hate to be around kids. The thing is that, right now, Adult land costs four or five times as much as Mature on the Mainland, but many of us think that's unlikely to persist after the novelty fades and the inventory evens out. The auctions on Zindra are just getting started, and there's lots of room to expand the continent if the auctions meet LL's price targets. One is a bit reluctant to urge rushing to buy something that's likely to lose value quickly. On the other hand, compared to a year of tier charges, a few L$s per square meter one way or another isn't all that big a deal. _____________________

I give up. I don't understand the system anymore. I think I'll step away again since there's really not much for me to do in this advanced world that's full of high competition.

Are you premium already? If so, you should get a small plot of land. A 512 is tier free. It's really not that complicated. It just seems that way because we don't exactly understand what you are looking for and what your goals are.
