Graphics cards 101 (need a list)

I have an outdated nVidia GeForce 7300 LE and it runs Windlight just fine, Ultra gives me a lot of lag though. No shadows with this card.

For Price & Performance, the Nvidia 8800/9800 GT, GTS, GTX with a solid 512mb of memory.
Newer ATI cards stink right now (I Own a 4780), and the Nvidia 200 series is still in the air as far as stability for SLers, not to mention it is more expensive then the 8800/9800 series.

All I wanted was a LIST of recommended cards that will run windlight....so when I do my class tonight, I will be able to answer that question and provide folks with some options.

Technically, almost any graphics card made in the past five years will run Windlight. The question is will they do it to a user's satisfaction, which is subjective.

Intel: This is easy. None of them.

Nvidia. Pretty much look at the SL recommended system requirements at http://secondlife.com/support/sysreqs.php any of those cards will run Windlight viewers reasonably well.

The Nvidia 9000 and GT200 series cards have come out since the list was made. The 9400GT or better, GTS250 and any of the GTX200 cards will do it.

ATI on a PC, I don't know, I don't use them anymore.

Wow, they really make those? I haven't ever seen half-height cards for retail sale.
They call them "low profile" cards. I had to get one for my baby computer. On the recommendation of my tech friend and some SL Forum posters, I ended up with an XFX nVidia 9500GT card.
