i know i suppose its a great risk . what is recommended ? the only way to own is in the mainland or buy a sim or island?

You paid L$1. That's what you are risking.

1. Right click on your land
2. Click the Objects Tab
3. Click the refresh list button
4. Note what is not yours or your partners prims
5. Click that name and then click the return objects button that appears when you click unfamiliar name.

Tada! Now under the objects tab set the autoreturn to like 5 minutes. Demons be gone!

All island land is essentially rental; you pay the island owner, the island owner pays Linden Lab. There are different business models... since you only paid L$1 for the land, yours is a pure rental, in that you paid no real purchase price, and you won't be able to re-sell the land to someone else.

Other estates charge an up-front fee but give you the right to re-sell to others when you decide to move away... but it's still a rental at the end of the day. Hell, mainland "ownership" is just renting from Linden Lab, anyway.

actually thats not entirely correct. I rent parcels on my island, i sell them for 0L, if its an exisitng rental home resident *(because I do home rentals as well as land rentals) I allow them to resell the parcel and they have full land rights. I figure if they can sell it good luck to them making a few bucks. I also used to rent land on another island myself a while back, i chose a plum location and paid the $1L, a year later I sold for quite a few thousand before stopping pating my tier to them, that was kinda nice :) (its always true about location location location)

If you like where you are, and the landlord seems OK, take the chance. If you paid nothing upfront, all you are risking is each months tier. I lived on a private estate for a year and it was a wonderful experience, preferable, for me than when I owned mainland.

WOW how refreshing to see, a POSITIVE statement about renting land on a private estate! Wayyy too much bashing goes on in this forum IMHO about renting land this way, so whut if you dont *own* it...most give full rights, find a great location, an honest & FAB landlord...and it can be a really good experience.

It's the truth. My landlord was fabulous, almost no restrictions, 1.5 prim multiplier, responsive to problems and very low profile. He was personally recommended, and had a good reputation. In the unlikely event i ever wanted to "ow land" i would go Estate again, and seek a similar reputable landlord.

Definitely nothing wrong with renting on an island. The vast majority of landlords (mainland, too) are wonderful folk. Unfortunately, we never hear about them.

Two things I've done with squatters, but they needs evil patience...

I was actually watching a squatter build her house on my land, furnish it, make her garden, rez her cars etc. Took her about an hour or so. When finished, she went in the house, sat and marvelled at her skill. That's when I quietly banned her from the land. Took her quite a while to realise what happened. I couldnt be bothered auto returning, so she had to pick it all up, herself.

If a squatter has rezzed a building and you see it's unlinked, return each item piece by piece. It's a real bugger for them to rebuild it :)

hi all :) i just bought some land for the first time. and i already have a squater way above me above the clouds. that means he uses my prims right?? also i contacted the owner of the sim but she is not on line right now so i thought i would come in here and get some advice. how can i get rid of him and once i do is there some kinda security system i can install so i dont have to keep flying up and checking to make sure no one else is squating ? :(

...if they had a mohawk, just play classical music or Ronald Reagan speeches on your land for a while...word gets around...no more squatters.
