Re: parcel return.

No, please, I spent weeks working on a house in a friend's sim, linking and unlinking pieces as I worked on it, and it got autoreturned in individual objects back when that was the default, and it was devastating. I've never had a house in SL since, because every time I start working on one I open up that folder full of bits and pieces of walls and furniture and gardens and just ... go do something else.

The previous situation, before auto-aggregation, was horrible.

What we NEED is better handling of aggregated objects in inventory.

At the very least you should be able to list the individual objects without rezzing them, and the aggregation should be chunked if it's too big to rez.

Tell me how anyone is bothered by having to fly a bit to the right or the left?

Your neighbors are stuck seeing your ban lines 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, but vehicles can not see a banline until they hit the ban line and they are kicked out of SL and have to jump through loops to try to get thier vehicle back. All of this just because people fear that the other tools available such as no object entry etc are not enough and there is the possibility that they "might" get griefed once a year or so.

As I said you will not get a lot of sympathy stating your justifications for using ban lines from the majority of residents.

*I am not justifying anything. I do not have to.* sheesh

You're the one pushing YOUR views and morality onto ME. Justify that if you can.

If you would actually read my post I have said that *no one has a problem with it* in fact they have some too. And no one's being bothered by such a tiny parcel in the way you say to begin with.

Want it clearer? There are no roads no vehicles and you are being totally presumptive as to my reasoning, which again, is MY business and my choice.

Another thing pops in my mind, more of the "tune/bugfix" kind of thing.

the On website friendlist view.
It's borked for over months now.
When people have marked "Can see me on map" for me

this is shown in the list on the site as link.

secondlife://Object/<coords>/<coords>

instead of secondlife://<regionname>/<coords>/<coords>

This is at times quite annoying, if you directly want to tp (during login) to that person. for whatever reason. E.g. for emergency chat, or businesses, or surprises (birthdays e.g.)

Also, the list itself is borked at times too..

Not all real logged in people are shown, compared to the inworld list.
Sometimes you're seeking a person, for a quick headsup. Checking the site gives you an idea, if that person is online, and it's worthy to login, or not.

In any case, things should work, even if not all members use it.
And a simple friendlist system on the site, shouldn't be that hard to have functioning well.
(if inworld can, so can through a website, querying the databases)

you put your ban lines round a tiny parcel then another user does the same and another and another and pretty soon no one can move for ruddy ban lines...

I assume you dont bother exploring sl....if you did you'd soon find out what a pain the damn things are.

Well that's another mistaken presumption, then, but why stop when you're hitting your stride. (Tho again if my posts were actually being read - I did say that *I'd rather bounce off a ban line than get zapped home before I knew what was happening, by some orb.*)

It's a smallish sim with a lot of little choppy lots that people mostly use to change their clothes in. No one there is in a lather about it and isn't that what counts.

One reason I added it was so that people flying through didn't get teleported home, if you want to know, and since one finger wagging wasn't enough, perhaps you do, so there is more info.

There is a thread back a ways where I talk about being tired of being walked in on while dressing, and people roaming around my home with or without me in it, at will, and not leaving...To me that is much worse than a red line. This is why I paid premium and wanted a lot to begin with and it seems the others around me feel similarly about their own lots.

But y'know what. I feel we are all fairly fortunate to be able to spend time worrying about something like a red line in a video game. No hard feelings, everyone have a nice day I hope.

How is it more silly to worry about a red line than it is to worry about someone seeing your avatar naked?

ban lines make people crash, they look unsightly ...try and get it into your head what people are complaining about.....okay let's keep ban lines BUT make 'em visible to the people who put 'em up in the first place...seems fair to me...and I wonder what the impact of all the red ban lines in sl is on sl's functioning capability? No one is telling me they don't effect efficiency.

Ban lines also lower your property values. In my opinion...

Why? i see ban lines as a lock on your doors/windows in RL.
But because to the SL limitations, currently, the ban lines are in place to simulate the same idea. It's in the right of the owners to lock it or not.
Besides, if that devaluates the land value, maybe those potential buyers are peeping toms? And want land that is open for everyone, so they can wander and peep wherever they wish. (e.g. walking in other peeps houses, like it's a public building.)
I've seen it happen.. so do others.
Simply stay in your own parcel, and be done with it. (or hop through other public areas for entertainment e.g.
Your parcel is yours, other parcels are theirs.. if they want you over, they will invite or tell you.. otherwise keep out!. ;) ANd banlines force that, for the ones who cannot behave.

Personally if i see banlines, i know the landlord has visions about privacy as to entering landborder towards it's tenants.
If tenants wants extra security, they are allowed to put up lines..
if they don't they dont..
to me, that gives me more of a secure feeling, then the lands where you may not put up lines, only security orbs inside the house (too lag sensitive btw)

tell me what ban lines do that the options in 'your land' don't (apart from make unsightly lines of red text worse than any ad farm, or make users who simply want to get from a to b without teleporting crash ) Would you put up with your ban lines if you could see them too or if you crashed when you touched them too ? I think not

There are many ways to implement these ban restrictions in contrast to the current implementation in place.
I did not say, that i like the current implementation. I only say that ban restrictions as parcel (or divided part of it) should be allowed for everyone and are usefull too (when correctly implemented).

And i named a few examples. in general, without saying which ban implementation, just as a whole example.

Also take in mind, the residential regions, where there are only parcels rented out.. and a public area is in place.. ban systems are also protective against intrusion on accident (e.g. car driving on the public area road, but due to lag, the car enters a house! kind of rude interruption, don't you think?). Ban lines prevent that.
So, if you really want to drive around, use the provided public parts of the region, or seek a sim that is designed for it.
In RL, i cannot just drive trough the garden of my neighbours for fun, without getting into a fight with them. I need to stay on the areas that are put in place for it (roads e.g)
So, this also applies to SL.

And with the public linden roads emerging on mainland, this won't be to hard to do. (sim crossing, through that road e.g.)

Yes, I understand that point of view. However, SL is not RL. If I lock my door then you can't watch my TV through the walls, and if I lock my door I won't cause cars driving past to crash. On the other hand, if I leave my door unlocked people can steal and damage my stuff and that doesn't happen in RL.

Ban lines are more like putting a 40 foot high boobytrapped wall around your property... but a transparent one that doesn't stop people from seeing anything I'm doing nor prevent them from playing with most of my "stuff"... when there's no way they can damage or steal my "stuff" if I don't put it up.

Ban lines don't simulate "locking your doors". We need something that *does* have that effect. INSTEAD.

That's what i said earlier (previous posts).. A good implementation.. which you, me and others are brainstorming about :)
But we all have the same base idea: change it, asap to something better.

Eliminating gray textures, seamless sim crossings, zero inventory loss.

An improved script editor, and better support for using external editors in a seamless manner.

Making the LSL tooltips stay visible and be copyable.

Philip could spend some time working on an explanation of why the Live Help group forum is still open for posting when the group's been dissolved a long time. Obviously no one else on the staff is going to tackle this project.

Here's one that Philip might like, integrate language translation into the system.

Get back to haptics related stuff and make a well working SL power glove.

Add support for the tilt and bearing aspect of the Intuos three so those who own that can rotate objects with their tablets or do something cool with them.

Add "paint directly onto objects" into the system.

I'll post this, then read the thread.

I'd like to see Xstreet integrated into the SL search feature. And along with that, I'd like to see Xstreet have more fields when searching for a product for sale, such as the ability to search by permissions.

Searching for any product inside SL is time consuming and completely random. It's almost easier to fly around and check out other peoples stuff, than it is to TP from place to place.

I wonder what your immediate neighbours think of those lovely huge red strips of lettering adjacent to their property ???

On the few occasions that my neighbors have placed ban lines, I have added them to my ban list. It sucks whe you can't fly over a border while you are terraforming or landscaping.

And if you think banning everyone is inconvienent, try flying over a property that has banned only you!

(Hmmm...I should ban my alt and see what happens. My understanding is the height of the ban line is raised considerably for those on the blacklist.)

So the end result of my policy is that the ban lines have been immediatley lifted. Or on one occasion I was added to their access list so that I don't have to see the ban lines and I can fly onto their property, while working on mine.

I will never outright ban everyone from my property, although you will get teleported home if you don't leave my skybox within 10 seconds of the warning. If you want to see me naked, then cam into the skybox like everyone else. lol

It could be. The reason that Linden Labs originally decided not to provide the ability for non-voice users to see voice dots is apparently because someone who didn't want voice argued against it... and later regretted it. I could easily see this kind of restriction being pushed by someone who didn't think things through.

On the other hand, the half-assed privacy and security implementation in SL (the one that provides neither privacy nor security) is apparently home grown.

Why would non-voice users need to see voice dots? I'm not regretting it....don't need to see the dots, you can find the voice-d00d's easy enough, they're the ones whining about 'no one using voice' or 'someone's mic is open' in text chat. :)

MINE! Tresspassing! MINE! like a kindergartner upset someone touched their space on the kinder-carpet.

You, madam, are a perfect example of sef-indulgent egotism...My Business, My Choice (read, no concern for others). But you do make a perfect mainlander, contribuiting to the squalor and visual blight.
