Me?, I flew my 1st solo at 16, played guitar with a bunch of local bands, recorded demos for a Grammy nominated artist, watched the sunset over a high arctic plateau while freezing my a*** off, employed as a lowly technician (2nd class), no kids, 1 stroppy teenage niece, I own my home, a slightly dishevelled 200yr old cottage, vague recollections of a couple of train wreck relationships, eclectic vinyl and cd collection, decent hifi, 4 bloody good guitars + a Mesa Boogie amp........... and a bad back Always more interested in the journey, than in the destination

I'm a bipolar psychotic w/ schizophrenic tendencies on Klonipin withdrawal, so I would like ta think "I don't count" I actually found and got into SL a long time ago when I was lookin for constructive/safe hobbies instead of streetfights, carjacking, etc... I guess I really was a "good guy" inside afterall As soon as I'm done with my damned Klonipin withdrawal ya'll probably won't hear a peep out of me for a good MONTH, lol

From: Claire Silverspar hmmm... truth? I'm a college dropout, working too hard for just over minimum wage, living with my mum and stepdad person, going on SL to meet people and escape from the hell that is my evenings. lol, when you put it like that I seem pretty pathetic don't I? I do have my own room though, and we don't have a basement, we live on the 11th floor. And I pay rent. Well you know dropping out is sometimes the wise thing. I did finish my degree when I was younger, but I didn't enjoy the subject from the very first year. Since graduating about 12 years ago, I have worked in many different areas, mainly office-based/management, etc, and not one job has called on what I learned from my degree. After all that time I also came to the conclusion that any office-based work is not for me, either lol. I'm now in the middle of another degree (considering starting another, too!) studying part time in a subject I love! I think it's probably too late for me to follow the career path that I now wish I had embarked on when younger, but I'm going to give it a shot, and worst comes to worst, I have learned a lot in a subject of great interest. You still have the whole of your life ahead of you Claire; the world is your oyster!

I rarely see the boardroom, and that's fine by me. I've long since escaped the basement, though. My home workstation area (i.e. most of the house between the front door & the attic) has a certain "teenager's bedroom" quality to it. Minus the smell, of course.

I get my own music room and the computer is in there. (^_^)y

I am middle aged (God, I never thought I'd have to say that....lol) with to children, one who is almost a teenager, the other just turned 5, so not much time for leisure. I work in inside sales for a great company with lots of cool perks like all expense paid "sales meetings" in Sanibel Island, FL. We live in a double-wide (yep, I'm trailer park trash), but never been on Jerry Springer, thank goodness. My PC is in the living room, mostly so I can keep an eye on things when my pre-teen daughter is on there. My husband's PC is in the dining room, but only he is allowed to use that mega Alien machine he has.....lol.
I enjoy SL mostly because it's a great creative outlet, and more entertaining than most TV shows that are on right now. I also love to read, and read just about anything I can get my hands on. Thank goodness for work lunch hours, though, or I'd probably never get a book finished, since the best way to get your kids' attention is to sit down and look comfortable. In fact, have to log off not since my 5-year old little boy wants to play on the Thomas Tank Engine website.

And due to 503 errors this probably won't post.
EDIT: Ooops, it actually posted twice....sorry about that, folks.

From: Twosteppin Jewell I banned my son to the basement when he was about 13 or so - it was easier on all of us. Now he's 32, shouldn't you consider letting him out occasionaly?

40-something Mother of 2, both in college. Retired from 1st career of 20 years. Working at 2nd career - mid level social services. Sl is both recreation and emotional escape as my RL job is pretty stressful. Oh...where I live the houses don't have basements. But if we did, I would probably have my home office down there. Heh

I'm a rich man, playboy, love technological gadgets and i fight against the crime using a costume of bat. I have my own cave with a super computer. My career as super hero is so stressful that i need something to relax, that's why i play SL.
hahaha, well the true answer is:
Boardroom: Work doing international sales in a big company, currently outside of my country, i live with some housemates (we dont have basement), sometimes is boring here by the lack of communication with native people (the language) so SL is a good option for me.

Dearly Darlings,
I'm a retired US Senate Staffer now raising companion hunting dogs for discriminating clients. I do a great deal of work with local dog rescue groups and other charities. I teach developmentally challenged children pet skills with my therapy dogs. Maneo still works for a Fortune 500 which blocks SL from their entire computer system.
We've always owned our one home...this one is "The Money Pit."
When I was working for the Senate I did live a basment apartment for a while...does that count?
You all have a lovely day!
Ever Yours,
Mrs. Showdog Tiger

hmmm..sometimes I wished I lived in my mother's basement as my life can get pretty hectic.
Semi-retired early from a pretty good film career and live with my husband who also works in the movies (he is on a really cool Sci fi film now). University grad majoring in MesoAmerican Art (Mayan, Aztec, etc).
I have grown children who are all doing well (I offered the basement but they just went off and built lives of their own); one is in film biz too.
I love the bleeding edge of culture and I am very happy to have found SL at the point where film work was getting tiring (15hr days the norm).
After a pretty exciting work life, SL means I don't have to settle for a boring retirement.

Just down the hall from the boardroom. I can see it from my office door. There's a couple of people who work in there who are in SL too.

Boardroom: Professional, programmer, builds databases, web pages, I built my own barn / workshop and did the wiring (no basements in Louisiana), I can do plumbing, electrical, carpentery, build furniture and weld (MIG, TIG and Stick).
I can also change a diaper, plan invasions, conn a ship (sailor), design a building, balance accounts, build a wall, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze problems, pitch manure, program a computer, and cook a tasty meal.
I don't want to die gallantly, I want to die kicking and screaming and clawing my way out of the casket all the way to the cemetary.

Well, if they would unchain me from the radiator down here, I'd gladly move out of the basement!
Seriously, I don't fall into the basement category, but I'm not sure I qualify for the boardroom. I'm in a white collar profession with boardroom potential. How's that? I haven't lived with my parents since I was 18. I have my own office and a 5 figure salary (lol 10,000 to 99,000 somewhere in there...).
The stereotype of the 35 year old in his mom's basement really implies that SL residents, people who play WoW, EQ, etc... are all people who escape to virtual worlds because thier real lives are so pathetic that they have to pretend to be something else to cope. I think that's a completely unfair stereotype. I'm sure those people do exist, but I sincerely doubt they are anything but a small minority of the people in SL. You can't keep your true personality from showing, no matter how hard you try to be someone else, and with SL being such a social medium, those with no social skills tend to be pretty obvious. I would guess they gravitate towards griefing, because they are likely to have the aggression and hostility to justify their actions to themselves, the carelessness towards the feelings of others, and the technical abilities to pull it off.
The majority of the people I meet, and all of my friends have great social skills. regardless of their RL financial situations, they don't fall into the "basement" category as far as I'm concerned.

Same here. I'm 36, and haven't lived with my parents since I left for college at 18. I'm a white-collar professional, with an actual office, and work on a leadership team. I don't have an executive title yet, but I suppose I'll be ready for boardroom-level when I'm in my 40s. That, or I'll be sufficiently frustrated with corparate America by then that I'll just go drive a beer truck

I actually found myself envying him a little. Sure, he doesn't get paid as much, but he also doesn't have the student loans or the constant stream of disasters to cure and steady supply of stress. Load truck, deliver beer, return truck, go home, relax. It doesn't sound like a bad gig to me. I bet I'm idealizing it a little, but still. Some days...
