Often in disaparaging terms, the description of the "typical" sl user is a stereotypical loser living "in his mother's basement." But is this really the case? Is it possible that a proprotion of the user population are furiously busy people who use sl as a getaway and a brief respite from the pressures of work and lifestyle? Between these two "extremes" are there other categories? Ofcourse there are! Then, without confessing too much, where do YOU fit in? I thought of this thread because I have been so involved in my work and travelling this week I haven't had a social life except for an hour or so (in total) on sl - and that is at midnight. Are you the same as me? Or are you a pimply youth with spiders for pets and jibbly fingers?

I am just your typical multi-millionaire who made so much money being a male model for GQ that I now have several hours a day to devote to helping others on this forum when I'm not writing checks to save small furry woodland creatures, satisfying women with my caring, loving touch and making sure they have enough money on their credit cards so they can fully enjoy their daily shopping trips for shoes and jewelry.
Hold on a sec, I'll be right back...my stepmom needs to change the laundry here and I have to grab another box of donuts and slather more zit cream on my cystic acne....

I resent anyone who believes I live in my mother's basement. I live in the attic.

To answer seriously - the last couple of years I have been studying part time, and working part time. As a result, my time committments have been pretty flexible, and I usually come on here when I am avoiding everything else The work has been bits and bobs to get me by - something I need to address very soon, as my resume/cv for those last few years looks pretty terrible! <starts to pull finger out>

Boardroom: College graduate, professional "Computer Scientist" (Really, that is my title!), married with one kid, and probably old enough to be your mother...

Basement!? You have a *basement*!? Fuggin' boozhwazee. Real Men are just fine in the crawlspace under the trailer. It's warm down here--well, under the TV, anyway. And cozy enuff, what with the furry critters that visit: good for warmth, or a midnight snack! And SL runs just fine on that wifi connection the nice meth lab people let me use in exchange for momma's asthma pills.
And, Ray, your stepmomma does laundry--what kinda deal is that? If I don't want a whuppin' I gotta take momma's size 50 britches to the creek every couple weeks and wash 'em out with lye soap and the meth lab's paint thinner. Fish for supper, them days, and you ain't lived till you seen Bubba's Swamp get the torch!
Oh, on SL? Proud adfarmer. I tip them escort ladies good, too.

I have a Home office. It houses my Computer set-up. Mt Video mastering equipment, my Library, and a Portion of my Video Collection (around 6000 tapes give or take). I Write, I Edit DVDs, I do 3d Animation, and of course, I also Live in SL. I share the apartment with my wife and No, Apart from work i really don't go out much. it's too expensive most of the time. I prefer to just Occupy Myself with my Hobbies.

Boardroom: Computer professional who works with a lot of idiots (government) and given that most of the world news is too depressing these days, I spend a lot of my free time escaping into my fantasy books or this fantasy world.

One of the following scenarios: /me sits in my Great Room, sunlight spilling out from skylights, soft music playing in the background, watching birds and squirrels race around the backyard; or /me lays in my pillow topped king-sized bed, propped up on a variety of down pillows, the fireplace warming the room, laptop on my knees; or /me sneaks in first thing in the morning while sitting at my desk at work, eating a bagel and slugging back hot coffee. (Administrative/Office Management) I have a basement - you couldn't pay me to sit in it if you tried

Another catagory:
Classroom: Low level liberal arts academic with a pretty active social life who is also an insomiac. I also have a need for constant visual stimulation and SL is a fantastic activity while I multi task with other "computer" activities.
Are there basements in Texas?

I banned my son to the basement when he was about 13 or so - it was easier on all of us.

I'm a mid-level white collar professional in her mid-thirties with two kids. I'm also a professional artist and published author. Oh, yeah. I'm gay, too.
I think I would have to be my own category.

I come to SL as I would use any other form of entertainment; movies, TV, books etc. Otherwise, I don't do much with my computer beyond shopping or reading news and such. It's in a spare bedroom. My basement floods too much.

I live in SL, in Yosu sim so I can't answer for myself but all that's happened for my RL agent is that they spend most of the time they'd previously spent doing other computer things on SL now. I believe they access SL from a room in a house.

hmmm... truth? I'm a college dropout, working too hard for just over minimum wage, living with my mum and stepdad person, going on SL to meet people and escape from the hell that is my evenings. lol, when you put it like that I seem pretty pathetic don't I? I do have my own room though, and we don't have a basement, we live on the 11th floor. And I pay rent.

Stay-at-home Mom here, three kids - 10yo at home, 27yo & 22yo living on their own. (I'm 45, which is NOT old!)
My basement is unheated, would freeze some things off here in PA right now. Brrrrr!

I'm old enough to be your mom, and inspite of not finishing college, am in the lucky position of looking forward to an early retirement Life has a way of working out in strange ways sometimes, in ways you never expect. I thought I'd be living in poverty for sure. Felt like the biggest freaking loser. Well, here it is cough cough mumble mumble years later, and that lack of a college education didn't hinder me from improving my life. Hey! At least you pay rent! Geez, I just bummed off my parents for far longer than I had any right too!

I think I would have to be my own category. Minus the two kids, I can sign that, too. Okay, so I'm bi, not gay, but queer nevertheless... Edit: Dang, forgot to log out again....that was Alyx speaking. Rhian is just an alternate version of me without a RL.

I'm in the bedroom usually where the desk and computer are. I'm currently on disability and it's hard to get out much. Without SL I would easily get bored because I don't like television at all.
Before this I was more of the boardroom type.
