D'oh! I didn't even know there was a poll - otherwise I would have suggest Vinnland.

hehe - and therin lies the problem with using these forums to settle on SL questions..."democratically" ;)

Don't get me wrong - I'm not for or against the idea of Satori as a continent name; I dont own land there, and it doesn't affect me one way or another.

But wouldn't it make more sense to ask the residents who actually own land & live on this new continent what they'd like to call their home, rather than what us forum regulars would like to call it? :o

Satori was suggested by a resident of said continent.

But we've always said if the Lindens finally indicated a name, we'd accept it. I'm going to go take a look at that map. :)

ETA: Just read the post more closely. "Korean Continent" and "Japanese Continent"? That is just silly. On the bright side, "Satori" is a Japanese word, so it at least fits their so-called theme (I say so-called, because the sim names don't really support it).

Take a look at the doggie there as well :).

I'm not fond of doggies (surprise :p), but the one in his office is the most realistic prim animal I've ever seen .

/sigh

There's absolutely no way for me to clearly make my point without soundling like a complete jackass..... and there's way more important things to be concerned about.

Nevermind :D

Sorry Travis... I guess I just didn't take the suggestion seriously because I can't think of any way to accomplish what you are requesting. Do you have a recommended course of action?

On the "official Linden name" front, I've taken a snapshot of Jack Linden's map. It's slightly inaccurate in that it doesn't have the official name for the atoll continent "Heterocera", so it can't be considered totally authoritative. Nevertheless, Jack is the mainland guy, so he's the one to go to for an answer on this.

Also, the map does have Korean and Japanese characters next to the two continents. I've already established that the Korean name is phonetically "jee-koo" (or chee-goo, or jee-goo, etc.), but haven't translated that yet. It's definitely not "jeogeot", nor the Korean for "Korea".

ETA: The map itself! :D

Translated the Korean. It means "region". Damn you Jack Linden!

ETA: And the Japanese is "ho-mu" (pronouced "HOE-muh" or "HOE-mu";), which means "home". Which I guess is better than "region", but not by much.

That's funny - I live in Yosu sim in Jeogeot and I've never thought of it as Korean! Yosu does sound a bit Japanese, I suppose. Japan and Korea might be close to each other but, like Canada and USA, they con't like being confused with one another!

Most of the sims on the eastern half of the continent are named after Korean places, I think mostly cities (including Yosu, which is in Wikipedia as Yeosu). I also thought my region was Japanese until I looked it up. :)

I own a fair chunk (213K on Satori and I suggested the name though I didn't ask all the residents!

It will be exactly that name that people call it. Which may be several names depending who is talking.

Like anything else that has a name.

Funny, such a simple thing should prove to be so elusive, and sooo expensive to completely control yourself (imagine trying to buy out that whole thing to definitively name it!)

I really like the fact that there is a map from LL, even if I may not personally like the names on it - perhaps we can go to office hours and learn more about it?

I always had a sense that they were going to make various countries have different welcome areas and 'continents' on the grid, before things got so wonderfully out of control and people simply did it for themselves.

Jack Linden has office hours on Friday at 7am, he didn't show up yesterday though :(.

Guy Linden might have some historical insight as well since he was responsible for the mainland for years (and still is?)?
