Help..Help..Laurentia's on Fire!!! Well a small part of it ...I purchased a range of particle effects recently, one of which was 'Basic Fire'. So I decided to give a try.. rezzed it on the floor..and now the floor's on fire and I can't switch it off. I tried right clicking and deleting..but only succeeded in deleting the floor.. I tried hitting 'Stop all Animations' but that didn't work. The fire looks pretty good but it's in the wrong place..and when I built this ruined temple I hadn't really bargained on burning it down as soon as I finished it. Suppose I should consider myself lucky I didn't use the 'Hell Fire' effect. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. Perre

Have you tried turning on view transparent (ctrl-alt-T)? That should let you select and delete it.

Thanks Ravenhurst..that did the trick..though I did delete the floor again in the process. I think I might need to remember that one for future pyrotechnic experiments. Thanks again..Perre

To avoid deleting the floor, you can "lock" it and any connecting objects by going into the 'obejct' tab of the edit window and selecting 'lock.' That way you (or anyone else) can't accidentally move or delete it.

I was sorry to see you had trouble with your fire Perre, but so very pleased to see that in trying to delete it you deleted your floor!
I have a big building that I am working on for my project and a while ago I was removing a teeny, tiny little prim and found that the prim stayed but the floor (and a staircase) went completely. I felt very foolish and when I think about it now I always feel a tad embarrassed!
You made me chuckle with your unfortunate deletion, but I am just so glad I am not alone.
I think if you Ctrl-Alt-T that might show the part of the fire that you need to get hold of, and hopefully that will work for you.

Also... While in build (edit) you can drag your cursor over the general area the particle effect is, and usually find the object when it highlights. From: Winchendon Dickins Shall we start an Unintentional Floor Deletion Club? Did that in a skybox of mines once. Dat was the day I learned how Lock works. Mari

I deleted my house twice before I learned about lock. I think that beats deleting the floor.... I felt like such an idiot..standing there with my furniture in the open air and pictures hanging on walls that were no longer there. Now.......all houses of mine are locked after rezzing and any modifying I need to do.

Although I thought that the rezzer that came with the house had a lock function - go figure. Unfortunately, only half of my stuff was left floating in open air. The other half returned into the ether from whence it came.

Hehe - I'll join that one *grin* The funniest was an old friend of mine last year, in a house she rented on the water. She accidently deleted the ground floor, and was just left with water and waves. She and her friends huddled on the second floor while I built something temporary to tide them over (bad pun, I know) until the landlord could get there. She lives in the southern part of the US, and it was shortly after Katrina...so it was kinda appropriate ...... My worst experiences are not so much about accidently deleting objects, rather, accidently wearing an object best not seen in public places - since I usually only see the back of my avie, I don't notice until some helpful person tells me *grin*

having to lock and unlock prims during building is a pain....
which is how I ended up standing on thin air the other day. Yep. I deleted the floor.

Membership is Growing!! The Unintentional Floor Deletion Club is on its way!
10-03-2007 14:09
OK, so that's Perre (of course); Marianne; Talon; Morwen; Taylor; Annabelle and me but I really do think we have to allow Sunni and Klipang, cos deleting the house definitely beats deleting the floor (and yes, I have done that too - * hangs head in shame *). I also think we have to make another exception and allow Betty too because a building linked to a prim skirt is a must see!
All we need now is for someone to provide the pie and I think we have the makings of a fine club, just dont have us all in the same room at the same time building!!
And thanks to you all, I feel so much better now - deleting my floor was something I had sort of been keeping to myself, now I dont have to worry so much as I am sooo not alone.

I don't recall deleting a floor while trying to delete something else, but this might be worse. I was trying to change a texture on a floor and either had a lot of other stuff selected, or the building was linked. Ruined all the textures on the rest of the building and didn't have a backup. That took a while to fix.

I have deleted the floor several times, so count me as a member please. The worst thing in the early days on SL was that i used to fall asleep at the keyboard and delete the lower floors of the house when my mouse finger dropped. My partner at the time, and i were left naked in the garden on several occasions, with no house around us. He locked eveything eventually. I have also... Painted the entire house, including windows and doors in very pretty green chintz.... Thrown an entire carriage house across two sims, and buried it in the side of a hill... Lost my prim part from xcite in long grass and had to go buy another... rezzed a sim-sized mega prim by accident in a sandbox (to the angry growls and shouts of the entire local population who were building around me)... rotated a large craft i was building when i put the rotation script in the axle and forgot to unlink it, so the whole boat rotated Its all part of the learning process .... but its funny when you look back imogen

I haven't deleted my floor yet. Most of my problems have been with textures.
I just bought land last week and I'm still making modifications to my new house. I was changing all of the individual textures (walls, floor, roof, patio, etc.) I was almost done when I forgot to click the "select texture" button. My entire house was covered with the roof texture.
A couple of days later I was changing the transparency of the windows. The next thing I know, the whole house was 90% transparent. Lucky for me I was working on a copy of the house this time.
I didn't know I was able to lock prims so I've been shift-dragging the house to make a copy of it. I put the copy 100 meters above and do all of my work up there. When I'm done I delete the original house and move the new one into place. If I screw up I just delete the working copy and make another. That works fine for now but it won't work when my house gets big enough to use more than half of my prim allowance.

From: Winchendon Dickins Shall we start an Unintentional Floor Deletion Club? While at the club where I work I tried to pass an object to a friend of mine and accidentally placed it on the floor. When I went to delete it I accidentally deleted the floor. It was fun to watch everyone fall into the water below as they continued dancing.

I have yet to delete a floor, but I did delete a carpet texture the wife just bought whilst trying to change other 'decorations'.. lol.. she wasn't happy as she had to buy another one... well I had to go buy another one, she just did the shopping bit.... she took my CC on an 'excursion', upon her return announced that they didn't have the one I messed with in stock anymore, so she HAD to buy a more expensive one ... 'didn't have the same one in stock' hmmm........ guess lesson learnt.

This is a great thread! Haven't deleted any floors.... but i have: - deleted a building platform in the sky while standing on it (ya ... i know...) - almost linked a skirt to a castle - linked an earring to my black-box-studio - sent an earring flying into another region when repositioning it - while texturing someone's castle build, covered about a quarter of the entire structure in wooden floor panelling (very grateful at that point that the whole thing was too big to link as one piece - oh and when wanting to show some friends a new store design, planted the whole thing on top of them You've got to laugh really

Anyone done the classic.... clicked wear on a house in your inventory rather than drag it out? Makes a might fine hat... and clears the room.
