I thought removing things from the box and updating would help, but not so. I'm going one by one but my hand is killing me :( Anyone have advice?

Nope, sorry. I'm dreading the task myself, but I'm doing it small doses.

I deleted my 3 things from there and that was a pain.

Sorry.

Try My Inventory - check the Registered Servers - you should be able to remove yours.

Removing the registered Magic Box servers just halts delivery. I believe you have to manually inactivate and then delete each entry. There was no bulk function for that when I looked to do mine.

If you have enough items, and use Firefox, you might find it worthwhile to write a macro using the iMacro add-on.

Alternately you could use Auto-It or AutoHotKey to make a macro, which are both free programs you can use to automate things with Windows.

There being a possibility of a good many people wanting to delete a lot of things one might think it worthwhile to produce detailed instructions on how to make such macros.

I don't have any items on Xstreet to try it with, so this might not really be workable.

Try going into My Items - click the word "Mark" over the checkboxes - this will select all your items, then you can set status to all of them as Inactive.

Oh, yes.. yes it does. But think about it, why would LL want us to be able to easily delete things NOW?

I wonder how many people will get "caught" off-guard, not realizing that the changes went into effect (i.e. took a holiday from SL) or don't pay close attention to what goes on outside of their microcosm of their slice of SL...and then realize...poof...SL just stole bunches of L$ from their pocket or possibly drained their L$ balance? Reminds me of some of my credit card companies lately...

A LOT. I've been telling a few people to look into how it affects them, and most hadn't heard about it.

I hadn't heard about it until I logged into the forums for my daily dose of drama, amusement and annoyance.

Love when LL proves all three.

Is "inactive" good enough?
11-21-2009 23:32
If you simply make your items "inactive" will that be enough to avoid the upcoming listing charges? Or do you have to delete the items altogether? I was unable to find an answer to this in the LL blog post or FAQ. I'd hate to lose all that info, if I do decide to reactivate a specific item and list it for sale again. It would be like reinventing the wheel again....

Anyone find an answer to this question?

You have to disable / deactivate (can't remember which term they use) first, then it is a choice at the bottom right corner of an inactive listing to delete it.

Got it! Thanks. I started making a bulk delete utility in javascript and then realized that for every delete, the Xstreet page pops up a dialog and you have to click OK. It's not worth it D:

To reiterate Princess Ivory's question: will we have to pay the 10L$ for deactivated items. I put that question directly to Colossus McScrooge over on the blogs and, as one would expect, I got no response. That leads me to think that:

1) They're making this all up as they go along.

2) They deliberately want to catch out as many people as possible to screw them for as much money as they can get.

2) Unexpected bonus (or issss it?)

Alazarin, if you hear anything from Colossus over on the blog, please update us here in this thread too!

Remove the things from your box (or delete your box) then go to the "my inventory" page and your items will show up under 'unassociated inventory' with an 'edit' button next to them. click that, scroll down delete, choose ok, close the page and you will be back at the 'my inventory' page. Go to the next item, repeat. Once in a while refresh the 'my inventory' page to get rid of the ones that are done. It's still a lot, but it is a click or two less per item.

There has been a report that one of the Lindens (Not Colossus) has said that disabled items will not be charged.

Pink has stated that inactive items won't be charged. I hope when we get that two-week notice of the impending changes that this and other specific policies will be stated clearly. Nobody wants to make business decisions based on what some residents remembered reading in a group chat.

At this point, only delete items you know you'll never want to list again. Xstreet's current rules do not allow reposting of deleted items, and I don't expect that will change.

YIKES! No reposting of deleted items? I didn't realize that. Oh well, since I doubt I will be relisting on XStreet anytime soon (or ever), I guess that shouldn't be an issue for me.

This is such a shame for the small businessperson. I had a handful of items with modest sales, but certainly not enough to justify the new monthly listing fee. Maybe a one-time listing fee, but certainly not monthly. Guess Xstreet is just for the big kids now. The rest of us are squeezed out of the market.

And we are losing some wonderful public-service freebies like scripts, megaprims, etc. What a shame. Way to kill community spirit.
