by any chance, do you have an alt, and have you tried logging in with it? my main account has an enormous inventory and gets immense lag as well, even after it's been allowed to load entirely. my alt doesn't have anywhere nearly affected. not saying that you have as large an inventory as it could be something else, but, if you have an alt and it, too, is affected as badly, then it could help narrow the possibilities down to being a computer problem.
not that that would help greatly. at least if you had an unaffected alt you could do a few things you'd like to do inworld.

Actually I do have a huge inventory, over 40000 items..sighs, I know..they are all textures from designing clothes for 3 years..lol...its horrible I know..but yes, I do have alts, and thats a great idea to see if they lag, since they have much much smaller inv.

There are 6000-series and even 7000-series AGP cards available.
Apparently the best performing last AGP Nvidia card was the GeForce 7800 GS 256MB in fact.

@Yummy, what is your Ping Sim coming up with? CTRL+SHIFT+1 shows a box with this value in it. If it is getting really high (in excess of 600ms) then it is the connection to your ISP that is the problem.

Download speed is not the same as Ping Sim.
Download speed is the measure of how fast data is coming down to you.
Ping sim is how fast the request for data is serviced by the sim (latency).
Non-responsiveness and inability to perform actions in the viewer has often got more to do with the ping rate to the sim than download speed.

If you can check your ping sim it might show a high number, the lower the value the better btw and it should be anything below 300ms for normal, any higher than 600ms and your responsiveness will be terrible. if restarting your DSL modem does not fix it then it could be faulty or the problem could be with your ISP.

currently hovering at 42k. i once spent hours deleting 10000 items as i neared 50k. it's been much slower in climbing back up. fairly certain well over half are textures (good thing i DON'T design clothes. i shudder to think what my inventory would be!). i've seen the "official" opinions of others split down the middle on whether inventory (again, even after loading) causes "personal" lag. can only state with a fair cetainty that in my case it does...

I was having a similar problem a few months ago on DSL, turned out to be a problem at my local telecom exchange. My values then were in excess of 30K.

I have 34K inventory and don't get the kind of lag that Yummy is seeing, and I think that a large inventory would only lag you whilst it was still downloading items into the cache at the viewer end because it takes longer to download it all than a smaller inventory.
Once that has completed though you shouldn't see any lag from a large inventory at all.

not ping sim for me, I just checked and it is hovering around the 130 mark.

I am also finding the website rather slow (and xstreet) basically anything SL related seems slow for me.

Other games, apps, websites, etc run normal no lag etc

*shrug*

Edited to add, inventory over 40K but also slow on alts some of which are new enough that do not have any inventory other than what we start with...

correct, not the inventory

also noticed my framerate is lower than it's normal lowness...

I usually have bad framerates, but lately they seem worse than before... and on both the snowglobe and reg viewers (and snowglobe usually helped increase my framerates)

I am at a loss as to what is causing the slowness :(

takes forever to do anything :(

well, thats a total relief, becuz you KNOW how long it takes to do anything with your inventory..just getting it to LOAD is a chore!

You know...I cant even log in right now..it's just so damn frustrating...its a mess!

now, see, that's what makes me wonder why one avatar has lag while the others don't. (yes, have already experimented with removing every attached prim, every HUD, and every scripted attachment, followed by logging out and clearing the cache before logging back in. the only result was having to spend a long time returning my avatar to its previous state...)

I didn't know that a large inventory could cause lag. I try to keep mine at around 12,000 at most.

Where I've noticed problems with lag is when I bring up the world map. It never seems to load, always stops after a few minutes and lags me down if I try to move around when it's open.

LL YOU WON! You have ANOTHER unhappy customer..
08-10-2009 00:54
Well all I can say is Linden Lab won...i quit for awhile until the lag stops..or the world ends, either way...I just cant fight it anymore..its too damn depressing...
I know its not news to them..they could care less if I come or go..but ME will turn into countless others..new people will join..and see how F*CKING unplayable it is..and leave..etc..
But what does that matter to LL..they have their numbers..their NEW ACCOUNT numbers..let them come inworld and try to do the things we do....oh..wait..no, they dont do that....sighs..im so sorry..im just a bit depressed tonite..really

makes me wonder too
and I know it is not my system, hubby logged in and his system is way better than mine, and he even had lag (and his inventory is around 4K)

not our internet as my sim ping was really good too....

(and we do not get lag elsewhere, no other games or anything)

A possible cause of terrible lag in all viewers may be due to the following :

A few well known palm sellers are currently recommending turning off Lodding. If you want to create the most horrific LAG go ahead and follow the intructions that these creators are suggesting.

If you've got the kind of palms that look broken and disappear at a short distance and turn into the most horrid tangled and ugly mess and the creators are recommending that you turn off lodding to fix the mess, what you will actually be doing is turning off a very important optimization process.

Even on a very powerful machine this will cause monster super lag. It might be ok outside your house on your sim but if you go to a full sim that has lots of sculpties or a popular shop or venue with lots of avatars, prepare for super lag. If this is the experience you want follow the suggested instructions below.

These instructions will deteriorate your SL experience, unless you want big lag of course :

LoD (or Level of Detail) still affects sculpties in SL and some parts of complex sculpted items are known to lose their shape when viewed from certain distances.
Increasing the Object Mesh Detail Level under your graphics preferences can help diminish this problem, but what I found really to work is under the "Advanced" menu (hit Ctrl-Alt-D, or Opt-Ctrl-D on a Mac to make it visible), click "Debug Settings..." all the way at the bottom, and type "RenderVolumeLODFactor" all one word. Change the value to 4.000 or 5.000.

Turning off the in-built SL optimization and lodding process is not recommended

my lag was so bad that I couldn't even get on SL...well I could, log into a grey world and leave my av there for half an hour hoping after that everything won't be grey anymore...

decided it was time for a new comp (the one I have isn't that old and was a pretty good one when I got it).

During the time I was putting together the $$ for the new comp, I got bored since I couldn't get on SL and reinstalled WoW...which incidentally runs great on the same comp that couldn't run SL.

Due to $$ issues and delivery issues, I was off SL for almost a month (I would log on every few days or so in case I had any customer service issues but that's it)...the new comp is here and SL runs great again. Now I have 2 comps, one for WoW and one for SL.

LL might not care but actually I have tiered down a bit, and am on SL less and less. Shoulda never had that month off ;)

I dont wanna get addicted to WOW again, sighs. My son just got SIMS 3 and man, it looks cool as hell, I know if i started it, no one would ever see me again.
Yea, I guess I know where my tax refund will go this year..anyone have a good suggestion on a great pc?
I sure wish LL would take the time to hire someone who can get the lag out...I mean not everyone has the money to buy super puters, and mine actually isnt all that bad.
