I've been out looking around at land on the mainland and I seem to find either entire sims that are beautifully laid out with one or two owners or nothing but an ocean of adfarms. I'm looking for recommendations for sims that are mainland, may have land for sale and are not a complete wasteland of garbage. I know they're out there but I'm hoping they are not way overpriced either. ( Please help keep this thread open by not discussing going prices. )
Any suggestions?

What is it that you're looking for? Beach, forest, suburbs, mountain, industrial, gardens, etc.

Bradley, A couple of suggestions:
-Start at an older established sim like Carlisle or Achemon and fly around from there with your map on.
-Describe the specs of what you are looking for to a broker like Gwendolyn, Sarah, Sammy, Joy, Skye or Thai and ask them to keep an eye out for you (if you need last names, PM me).
-Go about five pages deep in land search sorted by price and see if you get lucky.
Good luck,
Ray

From: Raymond Figtree (if you need last names, PM me). Ray umm.. what if it's not last names we need? ~ Bradley, I know of a really nice chunk of land, it's 13312m2 though. I don't know if you're looking for something that big. If so, IM me I'll drop you the LM

Raymonds idea is working out well so far. It does look like I'll have to spend more than I was expecting. We'll see. Right now I"m just getting my feet wet.

I'm not logged into SL at the moment, so I can't retrieve the exact name for you. There's a sim near by where my land is (Kailish, I think, I may be wrong about where I'm staying. If I am, the "Temple of Berith" pick in my profile should TP straight to it) that is pretty wide open, has lots of land for sale, and the ads that are there are actually kept low to the ground (less than a one meter protrusion). I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, but thought it might be helpful.

Any suggestions? My sim, Sliderule has quite a few owners in all.. and far as my exploration (Not too much) has shown, not much in the way of adfarms.... Maybe not completely beautiful, but not bad either ^^ Some places have some low-altitude ads and such, but not ad-farms as I consider them.. no 500m tower of ads if you will.... EDIT:: and there is soe governor land neaby.. and some parcels for sale independantly as well

I think there is some land left in Ear and it's not full of ad farms.

Cut a deal in some of the older FIC areas. Actually, odds are, if you know somebody you can get some insane 'deals'. Like people with free 4096m tier for life that they aren't doing anything with. "Sure, go ahead, if I ever come back to SL I'll let you know..." that kind of thing.

Better to see who your neighbors are before you buy than after.

Exactly, Ray! I would just like to add that mainland is fickle this way. Even if today there is no adfarms in sight, tomorrow your neighbor sells and there is one next door to you. There is no way to truly keep yourself adfarm free in mainland outside of buying a sim of your own in its entirety. However, if you buy a nice protected view, and by that I mean with at least a quarter sim (land or water) of protected land in front of you, so no neighbor can block your view, you can place up privacy screen or megaprim walls in back of, and on the sides of your build, and you should be fine. This is the one major drawback in Mainland from my POV. Still a better buy than private sim, unless you are the sim owner. I got to thinking about the ad farmers and cutters and am curious about how they can live with themselves? They are despised by all probably even by themselves as they have no sense of community or self respect or they wouldn't be in the business of trying to ruin other people's SL experience.
They are even worse than your common "take the grid down griefers" as those are usually dealt with fairly quickly while the ad farmers and cutters are there 24/7 showing us how they feel about the community they live in.
Just my opinion. I would love to hear from some of them about how they think they are doing such a community service.

Susie, they don't care so long as the money comes rolling in. They are laughing at every idiot who buys up their stuff at 1000-10000% markup.

If you look at SL as just a moneymaking proposition and the residents as whiners or merely donators to your account, I guess it can be done. It boggles my mind though, but so do con artists that bilk senior citizens. Opportunists will be around always, or at least until the entire planet has read A Course in Miracles.

Great advice. Thank you all! I'm aware that I could move into beautiful land today and have a monstrosity next to me tomorrow, but I figure that's better than starting out with one.
Regarding ad farmers and their morality. My guess is they don't do anything in SL at all except their money making schemes. Stay removed, view everyone as losers, make some cash. Vile, disgusting individuals.

Bradley, also check out the ownership of the land around any parcels you're looking at. I've been map hopping for a while now. Found some potentially great places at reasonable prices, but there's nearly always a reason for reasonable prices, it seems. What looks like a nice green plot being used for prims turned out to have just been bought by an aspiring club owner or mall developer. One place that looked really good and was cheap, was next door to a very attractive castle-like building, that turned out to be a weapons testing sandbox. Good luck. Meanwhile /me is taking lots of notes

Never hurts to IM the owner and ask for a discount either. Make sure they know you are an end user and not a land broker.

Monoawi has some decent land for sale - and an established retail presence.

Mooalao, where I live, and surrounding sims, is all quite nice - criss-crossed with proper Linden roads and waterways. I found it by taking the road south from NCI Kuula. Most of the land down there is remarkably pleasant (at the moment), but I haven't looked for a while at how much is up for sale - it tends to be isolated parcels, which is probably a good sign. Failing that, what about somewhere around here?

I'm on Wyrlsong, I think a newer sim, and my neighbors and I would like to see some nice neighbors move in... and help us save the area from ugly garbage! There are several of us with Asian-themed preferences, trying to make it beautiful.
We are surrounded on two sides by For Sale parcels, mostly 1024 and 896, but we have all bought as much land as we can without raising tier. (And I am still considering buying more... hellllllpppp meeeee....)
