Well like the Main Land here is a place where I would rather not casually encounter such language!

The Patriotic Nigras DID have their website taken down. Their service provider pulled the plug after complaints were made, and they had to find a new server to host their site, and their irc channel. They were off the air from early January 09 till late May 09.

So complaints CAN work.

However, that said, Copybot is a very flawed piece of cobbled together software. It has many bugs, and on the latest version which I tested on my Opensim could not copy textures, only prims. There does not appear to be anyone in their current team that has the nous to fix the bugs and get a new version out.

I will explain a little about how Copybot works, as this may inspire some simple counter-measures. The notes with Copybot says you must have two avi accounts (in the forum they say it is best to create two throw-away new accounts to do this). The first avi is a regular avi, logged into SL in the normal way via the SL viewer. The second avi is the bot, and logs into SL using Copybot as the Client. They then 'friend' each other.

The 'real' avi then wanders around the grid, looking for neat stuff to steal. When they find something suitable, and there is no-one around, they send a tp to the Copybot, which automatically accepts. Once in the same store as the real avi the Copybot then provides them with a list of all objects within the scan range (the draw distance), and the Copybotter can then pick the item of interest from the list, and copy it to the HD, and making the Copybotter the new Creator at the same time.

It seems to me that although Copybot itself cannot be stopped very easily (if at all), other measures could possibly be taken. A visitor detector, coupled to a profile search would reveal avatars that were new and an almost empty profile. Suspicious avatar pairs such as these could then be forwarded to LL in a support ticket and LL could check their IP addresses for a match.

Is that a possible measure? I will let the more experienced scripters here comment on that.

Other than a few posts in this topic, most are a load of rubbish, so thank you. This place is in need of moderators of some sort - Linden or resmod.

I had no idea they'd been taken down before, but that is interesting to know. Someone posted earlier, 'Did you think that LL had the power to take down the net' or words to that effect. Of course I do not. But they can pressure/recommend to hosting providers to take down websites like this.

it's good to know how they work at least... I wonder if something like the UUID of the original work is somehow protective as in it could be dated in the data base for the genuine creator... Something like that might be proof that a later dated copy botted work is a fake.

So my question is, is there any way of taking this website down? If it was brought to Linden Lab's attention could they/would they be likely to do something about it?
We need to just BAN THE INTERWEBS.

Hey Fred, I got a secret for ya. The more you think about something, the more likely you are to encounter it. Law of Attraction, Baby. You might wanna try thinking more about lollipops and rainbows than how everyone is attacking you with naughty words all the time. But then again, what would be the fun in that?

A 9,000 prim guitar that can be set to physical? Sounds like the typical 10-year-old exaggeration BS to me.

I thought those guys had faded into obscurity long ago, or hit puberty and discovered girls or something. This is the first mention I've seen of them in, what, a year?

Why couldn't it be set to physical?

I guess mostly because I've never managed to get a 9,000 prim *anything* to link, so I couldn't set it physical.

I guess I should try that again (it's been a while) before making snarky comments, but I stand by the rest of my post :)

LL can... Ask the obscure ISP in some remote 3rd world country nicely to turn over who owns the IP of the site.

Then if they do not decline. Ask the host of the site, who is also in that obscure country if they could pretty please shut down there paying customer's web site.

Then when they decline. Nothing can happen because they can't bring legal action against that company in the obscure third world country.

This is how the internet works.
