What can be done about places like this?

So, was browsing xStreetSL, and I came across one of these 'anti-copybot scripts'.
I was bored, and ended up reading the 31 odd comments on the item. It was basically full of people *trying* to explain to the owner that copybot is a program, and not a script, and that a script wouldn't be able to do anything to stop a copybot.

I create items in Second Life, but fortunately they are more focused on scripts rather than their appearance. But it got me thinking, how easy is it to get hold of a copybot viewer?

Scarily, after just one google search, I found out that it was very easy.


I came across this website, which is FULL of people openly talking about copybotting.
(removed, because people are going to make stupid comments if I keep it here).

Some of their forum posts include:

"I stole a guitar with over 9000 prims that could cause considerable lag if set to physical and spammed all over the fucking sim."

and several posts about how to get unbanned from Second Life (using another client).




Quite frankly, I am shocked and disgusted at people on this website. People who have put a lot of work and effort into making products in Second Life are losing business and having their work stolen by these brainless idiots.

So my question is, is there any way of taking this website down? If it was brought to Linden Lab's attention could they/would they be likely to do something about it?


I would like to point out that I am - in no way - promoting or advertising copybotting. I am simply extremely worried and disgusted that there are people like this out there.

I am no fan of the Patriotic Nigras, nor their name.

But what exactly ILLEGAL activities are they doing that would warrant their website being taken down?

Second Life is not a national resource...People can make websites and talk about how to cripple our grid until their hair turns gray and they get Alzheimers and forget their log in information.

Oh, and i agree with this sentiment.

There are so many websites out there... How are you going to know which one I'm talking about?

And, they are helping people to break the law, some of them are even admitting to it and on their forums I wouldn't be surprised if they have includes SL names and whatnot.

Because I am concerned about how accessible these sort of clients are.
I have been a resident for more than a year now, and I haven't really ever given much thought to people stealing my things with copybots since recently.

Do yourself a favor.

Do not concern yourself with the idea of Copy Bot being used against you as you will worry yourself for no reason about something you can do nothing to stop.

Hmmm... I don't think there is criminal liability in copyright violation, but I might be wrong. Is this just an SL version of a warez site?

But, they might still be open for civil litigation, DCMA's and such...

Mind you, that's me typing without seeing exactly what the site is doing, only the claim in the OP and a limited understanding of that. If it -IS- some kind of warez site, it could at the least get sued - and there may or may not be criminal laws about warez sites that may or may not apply...

Yes, they are laughable to some degree.

But when people and groups like that turn their attention to focus on you, they go from being laughable, to a royal pain in the rear and more often than not a constant bother of some magnitude depending on how much of their negative creep energy they wish to focus in your direction.

Best to give them a wide birth and let sleeping dogs lay where they sleep.

why you shocked ?,, i mean you made it sound if LL had power over other stuff (net ) or what other Ppl do. i hate to tell you no and nope , that beening said you couldt been call them brainless idots,, for a few like well if you ask me i think they smart about it it takes more know how to make a copy bot and run and stole your work them to build it, and 2 they read the froms too you might have just got them piss off at you ,,, comeing after your work ,,, who knows but i do ageed with one thing why build if you got to be worry about it geting copy, ripoff, stolen but again that life just like RL .
