How Can I Ban Someone I Can't Find?

The other day I posted about a windsurfer I found on my land. I returned it.

Well, this girl keeps leaving it. Several times now. Not only in the water; now she is bold and just locks it on my beach.

So today, I go to look her up so I can im her and ask her to stop doing this, to take it with her when she leaves at least.

But, I can't get her in the search. Not listed. But at least I can get her from clicking on the object. So, I send her the IM.

But then I think to myself, I may as well just ban her. She's done this more than a few times already. And her profile is dicey. Can't search for her, no payment info, etc. But, there is no way to ban her since you can't search for her! Finally, I just put the "ban all avatars with no payment info listed" into my group. But, I don't necessarily want to leave that there, since some of my friends might possibly have this attribute.

Is there any other way to ban this person?

I don't have one myself yet, but the thought that comes to mind is a security orb/bot...hers could be the first (and perhaps only) name on it's list.

Would plain old "no object entry" solve your problem?

Just ban everyone who isn't a friend but that won't mean they can't find a way to cross your ban line.
Don't allow non-group members to use scripts, build, or rezz objects.
Also if she got object there her name should show up as the owner.

I have "no build" on. I really have to remember to put back the "1 minute" auto return, but that was the whole problem I had, and the nature of my post last week (won't go into it again). And I got her name from the object, thankfully.

But yes I have an orb in my inventory, just haven't made use of it yet. Perhaps, I'll think about it now. I'm annoyed at my neighbor now too - he wandered onto my property the other day unannounced because he saw my Alt there and somehow felt it was his duty to play police and come after her! But, I was changing in my bedroom! He's never stepped one foot onto my land ever before, so I was might ticked off to find him only several meters from me as I was standing there in my underwear (good thing he's gay, and a child av at that, not that it matter in the grand scheme of pixal things).

I notice for some reason every time I try to put a timer on the auto-return it keeps going back to zero when I log out.
Have you noticed this too?
Maybe your neighbor has been being bothered by same person was trying to find her name to ban her too.

Right click on the person's object and choose Edit. Though you can't edit it, you can look at its General tab. On that tab will be a blue button for Owner's profile. Click on that. Now you have her name and can ban her.

Having her profile and name, you can also IM her. She may not be deliberately littering, but unable to grab her board after wiping out. It may not even be she: I recently found a vehicle stuck somewhere in the air and sat in it, to my surprise, it took off until it got stuck again at a sim border, a few seconds later, after which I stood up unable to do anything for the vehicle.

ahhh this thread has just helped me, I have been getting bullets sent back to my lost and found folder from other parcels, now i was confused as i don't use or even own a gun, but just now I remember that I have a pair of glasses that shoots bullets, it must be this!

so maybe she has glasses that shoot windsurfers?

Elora, "no build" just means that a stranger cant rez items on your land, however they can still drag objects onto your land from somewhere else, including windsurfers etc. You need to set "no object entry" to effectively stop it.

Or, make yourself an Elmer Fudd hunting cap, get a BFG, and sit and wait for the little darling to come a'windsurfin back to your place...

Hopefully the war cry of "Die wabbit!!" will scare her enough to never come back...

I have no object entry also. I just made sure. I think the problem is the auto return issue I alluded to, which I don't want to go into again or I'll bore you all. I'm home tomorrow, so I'm going to take the time to deal with it while sitting around doing, ummm, "housework"? (yea, let's call it that...)

Not in search (old search) usually means suspended or canceled, except when it means search is broken again. It is annoying when it gets in the way of an object that was left behind and needs ARing. If it is a suspension, maybe your problem is already solved, at least for now…

I thought it also meant you don't want to be there. Can't you choose not be in search?

You can choose not to be in the new one, but even then the checkbox setting can leave a link to the old style profile. It doesn't seem to have any effect on old-style searches.

Easy way to find her:

Right click next lost windsurfer, edit. Click the More button. Find owner name section and to the right of that click "View Profile". User found.

Next, copy her name by selecting it on profile then CTRL+C.

Next, open Abuse Report dialog box, or land settings, proceed to do whatever you need to do. (CTRL+V will insert the name in the people picker.)

(This is all assuming she cannot be found in search regardless of which version of it you use. If you open the old search, you should be able to find her though. New search is borked for NPIOF users, they're invisible to everyone.)

Ahhh - now I understand how I once had someone else's prims on my land l couldn't find at first. I could have just returned them, but I wanted to see what they were. It turned out to be a tiny ring about 300 meters up in the air, fiendishly hard to locate. It's been a mystery to me how or why someone could rez it up there. My skybox is another 300 meters even further up. And yes, I do keep build enabled so people can use the dressing room if they want.

It more likely got pushed from a skybox in a neighboring parcel. An adjustment must have gotten out of hand (or out of ear or nose or wherever the ring was intended). You know -- when you push something toward the edge of the screen it goes halfway across the sim. I bet someone was ticked I didn't have autoreturn activated so it just sat there for who knows how long.

Same thing happened to me but these perverted SOB's were leaving giant cocks behind. Just like th op it continued for a while but I took care of them really good. I kept my land open on purpose for when they came by they would enjoy my security drones which sent them for long rides. This and auto return worked wonders.

Anyone seen my windsurfer? I left it on some island, thought it would be safe there.

I'm cringing with embarrassment to think of all the times I've typed the wrong number into an object's "position" data and had it disappear to goodness knows where. I wish there were some way I could apologize to all the people who've had to deal with things of mine that suddenly arrived on their land.

If it's the case that a single or small number of avatars is causing an irritation, it's really over the top to ban everybody - or turn on No Object Entry.
Names of individual problem avatars can always be entered into the ban list. A better solution might be a security orb with a hitlist.

*For the speed-readers/reactors* : I don't want to go onto your land and mess with your stuff..OK?
BUT .... as I sail or fly around SL, it can happen that I might cross your boundaries - even by a fraction of a meter for a second or two as I pass by. It's a huge pain to crash out on hitting a ban.

Make sure you spell the avi's name EXACTLY how it is in world. If a letter is capitalized, then make sure you have that.

I have run into this issue several times, and it has always been the case. (no pun intended)

autoreturn is the only defence against clutter being left on your land.
I would never not have it.

"No object entry" and "no build" are not perfect, so you have to always use autoreturn as well.

Im sure everyone who doesnt have autoreturn finds vehicals on their land occasionally, as unfortionately when using vehicals, SL crashes sometimes leaving it.
(and I think "no object entry" will increase the likelyhood of someone being thrown off their vehical)
