More interesting to me than "why did you leave SL" (though the irony of asking people who haven't left SL why they left is amusing), let's ask the opposite question...
If you left and came back, what brought you back?

I came back because I missed my friends. I missed hanging out with them dancing and doing silly things while we chatted. Twitter, Google Chat, email etc., was just not the same as being able to have avatars together playing, building together, etc.

I got bored with RL. That is what brought me back when I left shortly after creating my account.

Left back then, because LL removed the option to pay with Direct debit for my Premium account.
On day they locked my access to SL and in the time i need to clear things up and reaktivate my account ( I dosent have an CC and had absolutely no idea about Pay Pal at that time) my Avatar was deleted. On him was stuff from way back at 2004. I was soooooo ******* that i decided to turn my back on SL. But then i diddnt took my friends into account. Not long and i was back again .. |

The first 6 months that I had an account, I rarely used it. Explored a few minutes every couple of weeks. I didn't really get involved in the whole thing until I started reading the forums and got to know some of the people here.

not left yet! Me neither. However, I often go on 'retreat', whereby I stick to my parcel, peruse these forums and just work. I actively discourage idle communication in-world, so to all intents and purposes I could be tinkering about with any other application on my 'puter. I hope to acquire Maya in the very near future so it will be interesting to see how much time I actually spend in-world once that is installed. I will say that SL performance is improving all the time. The hike in FPS and faster texture downloads that I noted on installation of the current viewer a week or two back still holds and it's a little better in Snowglobe. I'll most likely get shot down for saying it but the technical improvements in SL will keep me here if nothing else does. There is no comparison with my newbie days of a couple of years back and I look forward to seeing the difference further improvements will bring in another two years |

It was the forum, the friends I have here that brought me back. I quit last year, abandoned my land and cancelled my account. After a couple of days, I couldn't access the forum. After about a week I started reading SLU again, a few of my friends were there, but most weren't. For about 2 weeks it was the so and so says Hi thing, etc, and a occasional PM.
If I wasn't at SLU during that time I know I would have never returned, SL would have been Out of sight, Out of mind. But it kept it alive enough that after 3 weeks I really missed the nonsense here. So I reactivated, as a basic. I still didn't log in for a couple of weeks after returning, but of course resumed running amok here almost immediately. _____________________

How do I know when I'm 'back' as opposed to, you know, just sort of checking things out again?
Does having a continent count for anything, or would that be overstating my 'back'ness? Just asking... _____________________

I never actually left, but I basically quit using this account for several months. When I first started I made a couple of big mistakes: a drama relationship; and working too much in SL where it felt more like a job then fun. I created my first alt which I shifted to almost completely for several months. I eventually started using this account again when stresses settled down.

I left for about 3 months last fall. SL was getting in my way of getting important RL things done. I came back for two reasons...first I missed all my friends on SL
Secondly, I missed running a store. This is where SL is a game to me. What are good salls, items that never move, see the numbers in black and red (seeing more red this time than last I feel like I'm playing Monopoly with a lot of good friends popping in to say "Hi" _____________________
My interest in SL has simply died. Thanks for all the laughs

I've left a few times... most due to RL situations... it's the people that brought me back... not a damn thing else.

I missed the friends exclusive to SL and the unique 3D environment.
