Dakota, I share your frustration. A good quality men's shirt-layer garment includes a matching underwear-layer piece to fill this gap. Most of the cheaper ones do not, however.

I'm picky about where I buy clothes and there's only a few places. Probably why my AV is a bit of a tramp and rarely changes. But the clothes t hat I do have are fairly high quality. A balance, not too good, but too bad, some clothes just look like a photo of a shirt printed onto your avatar.
Mostly I shop at TonkTastic and Shit Luck (not aiming to swear, that's just the name of the store). As for your pants problem. Buy a belt. ![]() |

So? I really don't see what the problem is. Get yourself a tee on a jacket layer. That looks better anyway. _____________________

I might be wrong but it sounds like you are talking about the top of the system skirt not fitting close to the body (that annoying little gap). If so, it can't be fixed. Some creators are able to use folds, patterns, shading etc. to fool the eye into almost not seeing it, but the top of the system skirt can't fit any closer to the body than it does. I'll try to get a screenshot later. _____________________

Here's a designer pet-peeve of mine: Texture skirts that are no-mod. Please, don't do this! Not everyone has a perfect skirt-shape, and really don't like having skirts whose tops "float" a significant distance from the body, to the point where anyone can see down the top of my skirt and see my shoes, and everything in between! ![]() I have a number of otherwise nice denim minis that I don't wear simply because they don't fit and I can't mod them to fit! I agree with you. My problem is that i use a wheelchair, but also like to wear skirts. I can't wear prim skirts because they just fall through the chair and system skirts need to be a certain length or everyone can see what i eat for breakfast. there are some really nice dresses out there but always too short, they need to be longer and mod so I can adjust them to look good in my chair. |

The bottom of the shirt layer STOPS where the top of the pants layer STARTS.... That is a pet peeve of mine. I have no problem with women showing off their navel--on the beach. You can sometimes even catch me (in RL) working in my garden with a little flesh showing. However, when I buy suits, particularly those labeled “professional” suits, I don’t expect them to show my navel. In RL I would never wear such a suit to work, but I wouldn’t wear a suit to work in the garden or on the beach either. So the suit is worthless. That is why I got into making my own clothes. I have never had any problem with the pants meeting the shirt. I would have to go to extra work to do otherwise. Mary |

Some of us like to wear jackets on our jacket layer... In which case the heinously exposed midriff will not be apparent. |

Some of us like to wear jackets on our jacket layer... AGREED! One of my main SL clothing desigenr pet peeves is to find a t-shirt or (even worse) tank top which is sold ONLY in the jacket layer - I consider it unacceptable/useless regardless of the quality of its textures or appearance. If I accidentallly/unknowingly purchase one, I delete it. _____________________

Apparently you've never worn, or even seen, an open-front jacket. You're quite wrong. I just wouldn't be caught frozen in one: open-front jackets never look right. Mind you, I wouldn't expect someone wears tank tops to know any better. Ephraim Kappler roars laughing. |

You're quite wrong. I just wouldn't be caught frozen in one: open-front jackets never look right. Well that's your thing, and it's fine; but like the "jacket-layer shirts look better anyway" statement, it's contended - several orders of magnitude more than the opinion that the tummy-gap looks stupid. I like open-front jackets. They don't look bad on my avatar because my shoulders and upper torso are much narrower than a typical adult male avatar, so I avoid the weird "wide open on top, closer together on the bottom" look that a lot of these jackets have. And although I have a few jacket-layer shirts that look good, I tend to be a tucked-in kinda person, which the tummy-gap glitch doesn't accommodate. _____________________

Ok, so I don't wear my jeans all the time, but it did help throw in some comic relief.
![]() I had another profound thought on the subject, but quite frankly Immy's illustrated argument to the contrary seems to have distracted me. |

It would be great if it would be possible to switch the assigned clothing layer of a (mod-enabled) garment in-world, mainly for undershirt/shirt/jacket layers. Once this happens, people are just not going to put up with shirts that don't come with an underpants layer (and/or pants layer, even). I agree that pants makers should clearly state that their pants are "low rise" for anything that doesn't completely cover the top of that layer. But really, shirt makers who sell a single shirt-layer garment are just clueless about clothing in SL, and that cluelessness will be even more apparent after multiple garments per layer is possible. |

Although I make most of my own clothes, for jeans I've stuck with a few freebie pairs I've had for ages.
Shirt designers are as much to blame as jeans designers. Long T-shirts are better made on the jacket layer so they cover the tops of jeans. I often wear short bare tummy tank-tops or vests but when I wear what's supposed to be a full-length one, either in SL or RL, I don't like to have a gap! It would be useful to market clothes textures as well as the clothes themselves, so that people can decide whether to apply them to, say, the shirt, jacket or undershirt layer to suit. I'll have to look at my own clothes designs to see if I can include loose textures in the sale packs! _____________________

/me shakes head. Goodness, if you were a dog, you wouldn't have to worry about such things. I keep telling you people, it's GOOD to be a dog. Why don't you listen to Puppet and become a doggie? Oh why? We would all have so much more fun!

in my opinion good designers get around this issue with longer jacket layer t-shirts or shirt tees with an underpants layer that fills in the gap. It's just about finding designers that make their clothes that way. Dutch touch springs to mind as Iki is really good at it

But how otherwise would people be able to see your medallions? No worries. I generally go bare-chested when I'm cruising, bare everything (almost) when I'm desperate. |

I don't know. I have started wearing clothes in order to fit in better. You know, when in Rome . . . You are such a handsome doggie! The red bandanna compliments your colors nicely. I have to admit, I do have a special fondness for hats and frequently wear them. Here is a photo of me in my new Puppet Hat - it's for Mardi Gras. ![]() Edit: I should note that if any of you covet my hat, I got it at a store for tinies in Raglan Shire. _____________________

No worries. I generally go bare-chested when I'm cruising, bare everything (almost) when I'm desperate. I don't usually go without a shirt; I don't want all the ladies to be fainting just because I walk by. Yeah, I get what you guys are saying about how shirt designers should make shirts with underwear layers or on jacket layers so they can extend all the way down. That would solve the problem, but it's also not really fair. The shirt makers actually USE the entire shirt template; it's not their "fault", because they're not doing anything wrong. It's the pants makers that are screwing up by not using the whole layer. If they'd paint their clothes properly, the shirt makers wouldn't HAVE to go to all these lengths to fix the problems pants-makers cause. Think about it: If you want to make a pair of pants, all you have to do is make a pair of pants....but if you wanna make a shirt, you gotta make a shirt AND a jacket layer AND/OR an underwear layer, just because pants-makers don't care. It's dumb. _____________________
