Clothing designers! Pay close attention to the following image:

The bottom of the shirt layer STOPS where the top of the pants layer STARTS. Please, please, PLEASE paint your pants ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE LAYER. Please. There's all kinds of other clothing-makers in SL that manage to accomplish this; I don't believe it requires any special effort.

If your pants are -intentionally- low cut, please indicate such on your ads. Or start putting shirts on your photo models, so we can SEE that the pants don't reach all the way up to the shirt layer, or have them wear underwear so we know that the pants don't cover it all the way. That will make your model look dumb, but that's because such an obvious mistake IS kinda dumb.

This bugs me so much I made a blog entry about it, and I like never use my blog for much of anything.

I have a whole list of designer pet peeves - not paying attention to detail being my biggest one.

No, I think it has to be on the underpants layer. But still - that's great for black shirts, but how about...an off shade of red or blue, or green? It'd take ages to match the color. It's still aggravating.

It's time we men took back what is rightfully ours, the bare midriff! Why should the ladies be the only ones to show their bellies to the world?

Today the unshaved navel... tomorrow the hairy butt-crack!

Look out gurls, here we come.

Here's a designer pet-peeve of mine: Texture skirts that are no-mod. Please, don't do this! Not everyone has a perfect skirt-shape, and really don't like having skirts whose tops "float" a significant distance from the body, to the point where anyone can see down the top of my skirt and see my shoes, and everything in between! :o

I have a number of otherwise nice denim minis that I don't wear simply because they don't fit and I can't mod them to fit!

Unfortunately, there's a school of thought that women are only sexy in clothes with minimal chest coverage and riding the edge of the bikini line. And it seems to be the prevailing school of thought.

I rarely buy clothes in Second Life anymore because I think I already have every single blouse and pant combination that covers my navel. And there aren't many.

Yes I see your problem Cody!

And well I have the same problem I dont like that most pants come down that low always having to find shirts that have an underwear layer.

And sad to say I wear that 501 jeans most times cause of it.

I remember bitching about this as well last year and it's definitely intentionally done most of the time because apparently normal jeans look "highwaisted" on most male shapes. Hence these lowrise jeans which look more "natural." Which would be fine, if as you said, they'd freaking bother to mention it on the display instead of making buyers guess especially when some displays make them look normally cut and then it's somehow the buyer's fault for not managing to mystically divine this.

You have guts for admitting this. Those pants must be glued on by now.

Did you know they say people in sl imitate rl.

OUCH!

Take a snapshot to disk, use your trusted graphics program to expand the patch of colour to the right place in the texture. Then upload to the desired clothing layer.

It's pretty easy to get an exact colour match that way.

If I'm going to go so far as doing that, I suppose I may as well be making my own clothes altogether - except I don't consider myself to be able to paint clothes convincingly enough, which is why I buy them from others.

Awww...you got to love sl's self described, "designers." Their work is impeccable, don't you think?

The technique I mentioned is good enough to cover a small piece of flesh. Creating a full-fledged garment is a wholly different proposition.

I think there are many excellent designers out there whose skill in creating clothes I can't even begin to match. :o

I might be wrong but it sounds like you are talking about the top of the system skirt not fitting close to the body (that annoying little gap). If so, it can't be fixed. Some creators are able to use folds, patterns, shading etc. to fool the eye into almost not seeing it, but the top of the system skirt can't fit any closer to the body than it does.

So?

I really don't see what the problem is. Get yourself a tee on a jacket layer. That looks better anyway.

SL clothing would be extremely boring if every item conformed to the layer assigned for it. Tee shirts generally don't look right stopping at the bottom of the shirt or undershirt layer any more than pants look right going all the way up to the midriff.

I don't suppose it will happen today or tomorrow, but apart from having a more detailed and polygon-rich avatar mesh, I would dearly like to see all clothing layers adjusted to include some amount of overlap.

It would be great if it would be possible to switch the assigned clothing layer of a (mod-enabled) garment in-world, mainly for undershirt/shirt/jacket layers.

It IS hard to find pants/jeans (I speak about female av fashion) that are not high waisted OR cut low, in SL. Also tops that go to the line where the pants begin, or even past the navel. (Btw some designers fix 'the gap' by making a shirt tail part of the underwear layer.)

But - I was not able to find the thread so I'm posting it here - I did find something that fixes another 'fashion problem' in SL. Someone had a thread a while back about certain part of the female av anatomy showing in some low cut tops/gowns? And wished there were some 'pasties' to cover it up without being obvious?

Found 'em! And for only $5 Linden. Upstairs, at "HopScotch" store.

(I tried to look around shops on the Vain Kiss and GL hunts, to see if there were other freebies/dollarbies/bargains to include in the notes I took, and this was one.)

Well there are work-arounds to some things but I've spent enough on items not being as pictured. Now I usually only buy when I see it on someone else first or KNOW the store has quality items.
