From: Porky Gorky The majority of my interaction is with customers & clients and I seem to get called Mr. Gorky an awful lot. This has increased more and more over the years and I figure you may gain more respect the older you get or you may gain more respect the more successful you are or appear to be. Whatever the reason I don’t like it. I speak to allot of people and get all sorts into my stores. Occasionally I will have to communicate with someone with a rather unfortunate first name like "Horny" or "Hardon" or "RimLicker" which is the one I had today. I always call them by their surname as it just seems wrong slipping RimLicker into a sentence when I am trying to sell them something. I dunno, if they are a hard sell you may have to become one.......

Having a first name that is a common acronym, or shorthand, for "Thank You" doesn't help much. But, regardless, I do have a fair amount of people calling me Gabe. Maybe both first and last names are short and easy to type? Dunno.

From my experience last names are very seldom used except in Caledon and other such genteel roleplay areas.
Many moons ago I noticed "Oldrich" on the SL names list and created an alt named "Bich Oldrich". She wore an elderly lady skin/shape/clothing and was always thoroughly decked out in gaudy jewelry.
Of all the many identities I have ever worn on the grid, Bich Oldrich is the only one who was never once address by her first name. She was usually hailed as "Mrs Oldrich" and occasionally called "Momma" or "Granny" or some other matronly term of endearment.
Apparently most SL folk found it difficult to address a smiling, sympathetic, sweet grandmotherly avatar as "Bich".
... even on mainland...
... even in welcome areas.
