Back in 2004 one of the family got me a black cat that resembled my RL cat. It pretty much ran around the castle and if it passed one of its toys it would play with it. Unfortunately sim issues tended to cause its scripting to bork up and it would flop over and nothing at all would revive it. After the third replacement the RL cat passed away and I just couldn't face going through virtual cat death again so I gave up on it.
I had had the RL cat for 3 weeks shy of 20 years so it was pretty devastating.

I got a hen and a rooster (well, baby ones) and some feed, and am now raisin' chikins.
They grew since last week! And lost their fuzzy down.
Last I checked, they were nestled together sleeping during the warm SL night.
Okay I fell for the chikin craze. I'm human. It happens...

From: Esquievel Easterwood I also love the VKC dogs. ... You can chain together huge strings of commands and get all kinds of cool results. My favorite so far: I have a "dive" command that causes Hoover to climb up my waterfall and dive off into the water below. OOoo, right! Aiko's best trick thus far is going to fetch a ball, going to the person I tell her, dropping the ball at the person's feet, sitting with her back to the person, then looking around at them and "saying" - Shall we play a game? (The robotic voice from the movie "Wargames." I cried (such a softie when it comes to animals) when I read how the VKC Chows were designed. A man who lost his RL Chow during the tainted pet food episode was naturally devastated. He gave the Chow's picture to Enrico (creator of the VKC dogs) and the Chows were created from the photo. The RL Chow had a special trick - he would go to a bell (like the kind on motel desks) and ring it. Thus, the only VKC dog who can do that trick are the Chows. (I know...you couldn't have begun your morning without knowing that, but I think that is such a heartwarming story.) Desmond! Chickens? Now the end really is near.

I vote for BEING a doggie. What tops being your own pet??? Nuthin'!
I am also rather fond of the Petable Turtles. They are slow, and quiet, and they like to plod about, and they don't seem to mind me poking at them with my snout, unless they're trying to sleep. Every once in a while a boy turtle hops on top of a girl turtle and starts humping away, and the next day you get turtle eggs. You do need to feed them, though.
I am concerned about these script limits that are supposedly going to be put into place someday, and how it will affect those of us who have little resource-gobbling pets. But you can always be your own pet if that happens.

Most animals I encounter wind up ejected and muted.
