I'm looking to find a simple apartment that I can afford. I have no clue what I am doing. Can anyone offer advice or suggestions of good places to start out? I am getting the 300L/week so I can go up to the amount if necessary.

I am getting the 300L/week so I can go up to the amount if necessary. Here's my advice. Live off the land for a few weeks until you know your way around a little better. $300 will not get you far at all, and if you expect to use that to pay rent, then you definately need to get some "SL time" under your belt...so to speak. Explore, meet, experience....log out from wherever you are at the time or go to your "home position" before logging out. Once you get more familiar with your surroundings, then you should consider getting more money to either rent or buy land. |

The first thing you should do is open your mind to all the possibities. It does not have to be an apartment. In SL you can live in a treehouse, a sky platform, an undersea lair or a medieval castle, just to name a few.

There are quite a few out there - go to Search Places and type in "apartment" or to Search Classifieds and search the property and land rental sections.
From personal experience: There was a thread on here recently about Rhaorth Antonelli's Movix build - awesome detail, just really neat. It might not be quite what you're looking for, but the price is right. A newbie friend of mine is living there right now, and has in fact based her avatar on her "life the city." Until this week, I rented a skybox from P&H Rentals. Nice and private, reasonably priced - the ONLY reason I moved was that I got the opportunity to set up my own place. It is within your price range, and you couldn't ask for a more responsive, helpful landlord than Phil. Markubis' advice to "live off the land" isn't bad, either. At the very least try renting by the week at first, both to minimize your risk and in case you find a situation you like better. There are SO many things out there to spend your money on, you may not want to tie all of it up on having a place to "live" in. As far as a home base that won't tie up your cash: NCI has a homeowners' group that lets you set your home to a patch of land at one of their centers, changing rooms so you can try on clothes, and a sandbox so you can rez objects from your inventory and see what they look like. (Kuula, I think.) It's not "your own place" but it's nothing to shake a stick at either. Oh - you're a premium member, so you have 512 sqm of tier to play with. I have no experience with them, but I believe there are groups that will give you free space to live in if you donate your tier to their group. Ravenglass Rentals is one, I *think.* I'd have to look them up when I get in-world again to be sure. In any case, you asked for a starting point, and Search Classifieds or Search Places is a good beginning, I think. Ask people where they live, check out the Picks in their profiles... Good luck! ![]() |

thank you for mentioning me nic
I am also setting up houses in the sim for those who wish to live in a house, rent is based on prims so the more prims of course the higher the rent. if you want to see the sim just look up my name in game and it is in my picks if you want a tour just give me a shout and I will take you around the sim or ride the train hehe I am currently making train station signs, and road signs heh will make it easier for ppl who rent stores then can then put the steet address for their store (for those who like to RP) so each store and apartment/trailer/house will be numbered and the streets named _____________________

Maggie and I have a small little home we're not using that we'd be willing to rent to you for cheap. It's a small house, semi furnished on a 1024 plot. IM in world either myself of Maggie McArdle if you'd be interested. Or if we're not around...drop us a Offline message or notecard. We'd be willing to let you call it home for like....150L a week.

Hi Maya,
Ravenglass Rentals offers cheap rentals to new players, search for Ravenglass under places, it's the Newbies Community. Ravenglass Hall is also very affordable. Good luck! |

I am getting the 300L/week If you are getting 300L a week it proberbly means you have a premium account. If this is the case you don't need to rent to have land. A premium account can support 512 square meters of mainland land without you paying anything extra apart from the initial purchase price of the land (which on average costs somewhere between 5 and 10 L per square meter) Remember to only buy MAINLAND land as land on private estates isnt covered by that 512sqm. |

be carefull ....the ADD POLICE are about ........
my advice..... same as others, dont jump in before you feel comfortable that you can afford it. There are a lot of good places on SL that offer rentals etc and support that with good customer service.... I cant say more than this ..... without getting flamed _____________________

Take a look in the Property Sales & Rental forum here on these boards. The owner of my rented skybox recently posted another skybox available for $250. I have been renting my 2-level skybox from him for months, have always found him and his partner to be great at customer service, willing to show up at a moments notice to make requested texture changes and add certain features I have requested etc.

i agree with the "don't rent yet" crowd.
i was in sl for a month before i rented a place. got to meet ppl. got to shop. got to look around and see what places there WERE to rent and/or buy. what's the rush? |

Maya--You should be buying land, since you have a premium account. Get your 512 parcel on the mainland and pay no tier!
I am selling a 512 parcel with an ocean view and a beautiful house that I built myself with a large atrium at the ocean view end. The house is also low-prim, which is very important when you are living on a 512 parcel, because you have a limit to how much furniture you can use on these lots. The region is very nice--with friendly neighbors. Close to shopping. My partner's photo gallery is there, so you can walk down the hill and enjoy his work--or join the party when he does his exhibit openings! ![]() IM me in-world and I can give you a tour! |
