Is this the new stupidity in SL??

My gf has this skirt from a designer I will not mention.
She rezzed it inworld and this text appeared.
(Identification is removed to protect privacy)
When she wears this skirt, her avatar shows a 0.951 scripting time
Without this skirt it is 0.290

When o when do creators stop putting these useless pieces of scripts in their stuff???

Ow the response of the creator:

"Every big creator out there uses this script"

Are they serious?

omg

Yes, it's retarded. I only know of one stubborn hair maker that uses it. If the item is modify, you can remove the script. If you rez it on no-script land, it won't work. Which really just proves how useless it is.

There is a once popular hair designer that puts a similar script in their hair.

Just go somewhere that has scripts turned off, res the skirt and remove to offending scripts.

Better yet, toss the skirt in the trash and shop somewhere else.

/me would AR the creator for abuse of sim resources. Really. Maybe ask the creator and see if they will fix it first but my paw would be hovering over the AR button..

No excuse for eating that kind of time.

I'm so tempted in making using a copybot and just sending the creators of these things a copyboted version of it just to show how stupid they are.

What exactly is it supposed to do?

Clueless

I know one thing: I build and sell houses and buildings. I know that I cannot stop them from copying my stuff, Yes that is bad, it sure is, but using scripts that don't do anything other than scare people off is not my style.

Besides the ones that do steal stuff, are not the ignorant ones that let such a silly script stop them from copying it anyways.

I do report to that same creator if I see any outfit that I suspect is stolen from them. That is the best and unfortunatly the only real defense against content theft.

It sends the message in the OP's post, sends an email with your name and sim location to the creator to notify them of your 'copybot actions' (because the only reason you would ever want to rez anything, is to copybot it, of course  ) and then some delete the object.

It's an example of paranoia at it's worst. I am a firm believer in creator's rights to protect their creations. However, this goes far over the line of protection, and into the realm of harassment and abuse.

Well I read the OP- I just don't get why since his gf bought the skirt she would get some stupid message- it's her damn skirt she shd be able to rez it rather than wear it if she wants to. So I guess that is the point- just useless crap scripting and arrogant, paranoid creator.

Not to mention expensive, if it's eating that kind of script time when she's wearing it...

There is something you can do, even now.

If anyone rips you off, name and shame them on third party sites, using your own personal solid reputation. Such that people know it's not a too~typical anonymous false accusation. Sluniverse and secondcitizen might be good places to start.

This is outside of Linden Research's jurisdiction, and is not libel if true.

I personally pay *very* close attention to such statements backed up by respectable businesspeople.

Last I heard, copybot could also copy worn prim attachments.. which if that's true, completely defeats the purpose of such a script anyways. This is just going to scare off customers, who like me, often need to mod their skirts in such ways that can't be done while the darned thing is worn!

If it ain't a script and can be observed, it can be copied.

I thought the popular argument was that even if it's useless, it's one more hurdle that might prevent IP theft.

It's not a hurdle, it's not even a speedbump.

Worse, people who write copybot crap will be quite amused by it. If it effects anybody, it's the end user. The most a copybot person will get out of it is a laugh.

Twas what I thought. So, the fail is strong with this script, then.

I'm of two minds on the idea. Yes, it will because no one will WANT it, because the item screams the moment you rez it. And no, because someone will copybot it just to sell it without the stupid script.

But either way, it's useless against copybot. Heck, a copybot runner won't care if they're name is taken... they'll just move on to a new account and keep going. All the screaming skirt is going to do is drive away legitimate customers, because I sure as heck don't want a skirt that screams the moment I rez it to better fit it to my avatar.

Though.. tattle-tale skirts would make cybering a bit amusing, dontcha think?

Speaking of, could the OP PM or IM me the store so I can avoid it?

I don't understand why it's eating the script time. What else is it doing after it's established it's attached to its owner? Shouting !QUIT on every channel it can think of?

1) Put useless For-Loops in a black box
2) Label as anti-copy bot gadget

First after investigating, I found out that the object was no mod. And had resize scripts. So that was the main reason for that scripting time.

however, after a talk with the creator, she still was convinced that this script at least would scare a large group of thiefs off.

Biggest problem is trying to convince this well known creator that it does her more harm than good. I feel sad that I did not succeed in that.

I deleted the name in my 1st post not only because it's not allowed here, but also out of respect of this creator.

Sometimes creators do pay attention to there forums. I remember the resize discussion here and know a good number of creators stopped using that due to that topic.
