My first thought was "Ewwww!". Then I looked at it and went "Hey...!" And now, strangely, I like it. As always, I might be in the minority bucket there. :D

The blog entry makes this appear to be mainly about communicating. How nice it would be if we could actually communicate while logged in to their 3-D client instead.

You know, I actually read the blog this time, and I had the sme thought. It struck me as "Hey, here's all these ways we have set up for you to do things....that you should be doing inworld, but can't for a bunch of reasons". They can't fix what is keeping people from not being able to do them, so they'll throw this out as a consolation prize.

There's a transaction history on mine in the Account section. You have to expand the Account section.

Here's some of what it has:

o Transaction History
o Contact Information
o Change Password

They definitely have a lot of work to do like making links that take you away from the dashboard (the way all the SLX links currently do) open in a new tab or window per your browser settings and sticky settings for whether widgets are compressed or extended but it definitely looks like a good start.

My guess is that at some point they are going to weave the blog into it and the new forum that is going to be something along the same lines and make it so everything except for the JIRA and the wiki (maybe eventually even those) will all be accessible from inside the dashboard environment without leaving it. That will be good for integration but hopefully they'll still be easily accessible from outside of the dashboard.

Yeah, it's there.. it's just taking up WAY too much vertical space.

Apparently, according to the Blog, there eventually wil be a way to customize it - to turn off parts you don't want to see.
I certainly hope so. In it's current format, it's almost completely useless for me, and the parts that do serve a purpose for me are not an improvement.

I'm glad to see they are working hard on things that will make our SL run smoother and getting rid of the transparent avatars,,,

also, I hate anything that clogs up my browser.

It was rather slow.

I managed to get the "update credit info" page to appear by accident, probably from lag, while copying and pasting the stuff I put in the post above. One more accidental click and I'd have had to re-enter my credit info.

I must have missed the BETA - my account page looks normal - no banners to click on for nice new shiny things. :(

If you want to go to your dashboard homepage, rather than your account page try taking "account" off the end of that. It works too, and that is where all the feed widgets are.

I tried it and the answer is:

Yes, but you can get to the same place by clicking "Home" from the My Account page.

*chuckles* Given that it's "in beta," that means LL will either force it down our throats next week or it will be in beta for a couple of years... long enough for all of us to forget about it.

It was a little bit slower the first time I loaded. A bit faster the second, but still slower than the old page. Given how many things it has to fetch, it doesn't surprise me. You have forum, blog, events, grid status, Xstreet, tutorial (nice touch there) and groups to fetch updates on.

I wonder how the dashboard will hold up to several of it's feeds being down at once? Or does LL expect that to go down too?

Very true on the first paragraph :) Personally I think it has potential and a lot of potential that is if LL actually pay attention and listen to the input and feedback from us dear customers. But I am sure that always they will blunder on without paying attention to what is being said, but I hope I am wrong :)

I certainly like the concept if we as customers have more control over the feeds which you rightly say are slowing everything down at the moment, personally I do not want to see events, the map, xstreet etc. it would be nice if LL at least give us the option to run the new dashboard or the the classic (current) version when we login, as obviously for some the new dashboard is ideal but for others like me, we just need to see the basics without all the bells and whistles.

I for one like choices and do not want to see this as the norm as it will be overall useless for me and a word to the team that are developing it, PLEASE LISTEN TO WHAT IS BEING SAID TO YOU :) Thank you.

Yep that page did it. Interesting things I see on mine. My account is a free one - even though I own a sim. This page instead of showing "Free Account"

I like the land manager - was always a pain trying to find the sim manager page.

It's OK I suppose.

There's no link that I can find to LindeX transaction history (not the normal L$ transaction history under Account, the other one).

Every time I click a link it shrinks the Manage subsection in LindeX down again which is really annoying. On the other hand the old page always required two (painfully slow) clicks to sell L$ so this isn't much different on the annoying scale.

The "My groups" section has way too much whitespace and only 5 groups per page. Just list all the groups in one go without the paging nonsense, please. Too much whitespace in the Friends section too. Too much whitespace in the transaction history too.

I find the XStreet stuff annoying. I'm kinda sick of having that site shoved down my throat. Especially since I pretty much never use it. Easy to ignore though I suppose.

It's very grey, not a big fan of the colour scheme but the old system was nothing special in this department either.

All in all I'd say it's neither better nor worse than the old pages based on the things I tend to do most frequently.

Oddly enough, there is no reference to Free Accounts on this page:

http://secondlife.com/whatis/plans.php

And the only form of basic is Additional Basic. There's that $9.95 fee that (almost) no one pays for alts.

And what would be the difference between basic and free (in plan details) anyway?

The "Free" account is technically the first ever account you signed up for, if it never went Premium. Based on the e-mail address supplied. So if you used the same e-mail address to make two non-Premium accounts, the first would be labled as "FREE" and the second as "Additional Basic". No functional difference at all. If each alt has their own e-mail address, they are all marked as "FREE".

Do Not Want.

Seriously, the more edgy web-2.0 CRAP there is on a web page, the more likely you won't be able to use it.

If you can't display it with no javascript or other active content, you need to go back to the drawing board.

As I feared, the new dashboard produces the same errors the rest of the blog system does.

When the entire web site is turned into jive, I suppose I will pretty much stop using it, or reducing my use of it a great deal. It doesn't just produce errors, it crashes my browser. LL can't reproduce the problem and will thus not fix the problem.

The SL jive software system pages are the only site that crashes the browser and makes it vanish instantly of the thousands of urls I've visited in the past few years.

As for the design, it does not nothing to improve my SL experience, even if it did work. I prefer separate pages, with the content going across the whole page, with no sidebars. All the work done producing this new web feature is time, money and effort thrown down the drain, so far as I'm concerned.

What would have improved my SL web site experience would have been to update the vBulletin software and remove the security modifications crippling this forum system.

Oh well.
