Isn't that a little harsh, Seven? I'm going to have to tell you know who if I see her tomorrow morning.

What? I mean, What?

And there's another reason to have an alt, so you know who doesn't know what you're saying in the forum!

I'm pretty sure she doesn't know even if she reads the forum.

Nonsense, I'm not revolting. I'm quite a natty dresser, considering that just about everything I own came from a lucky chair!

Rebelling, maybe.

I got created to see if anyone reads Cordwainer Smith, and to push "C" on lucky chairs, and now I mostly hang around sitting on things to make sure they look right for my main.

No-one reads Cordwainer Smith any more.

I have two alts (1 male 1 female). First I use them for making adjustments on furniture. I'm short by SL standards, so I made the male taller and bigger. After that I will frequently use them in advertising photos.

One convienet thing about having alts is when someone tells you to "go fuck yourself"

I bought "The Rediscovery of Man" last year after reading Karen Ellis' review of it:

http://www.unshelved.com/archive.aspx?strip=20071216

(Karen Ellis of Planet Karen fame:

http://planetkaren.girl-wonder.org/

) It's a big fat book and I take it off the shelf every know and then to read the next story.

It never fails to blow my mind.

I concur. Mr. Linebarger's writing is well equipped with cerebral explosives. :)

I'd already read almost all of it but I didn't neglect to re-read any of it.

But I also use them as banks. Since I have vendors that pay out occasionally, I do not like keeping large amounts of Lindens in my main account, so I transfer it to them.

This.

My alts began for different reasons. My partner and I each created Elven alts for role play and wanted the available groups needed for that purpose. Other than visit a few Elven sims, that never worked out, so my Elf Alt is my inventory backup.

The other alt is Japanese. I have always been fascinated by Asian culture, primarily Japanese, and created her to begin training to become a Geisha. I was really enjoying it, took a few Japanese lessons...then my Oka-san (who was a GREAT person and mentor) disappeared, the "personality" so to speak of this particular tea house changed drastically and I really didn't have the extra time to get deeply into it. So now she is my banker for the same reason Cheree mentioned.

Accounting and Fun
07-27-2009 15:01
I own an private estate with rentals, a jazz club and I also DJ, so my money used to get pretty convoluted. And since I have a tendency to blow money if I'm not watching myself, it was hard for me to keep track of what Lindens were coming in and going out. So I have two accounting alts, one for The Savoy and one for Marco Island. All money paid in goes to them, and all money out for expenses and building, etc goes out from them. This way I know exactly how much money I'm making in Marco and I know exactly how badly I'm losing my ass in The Savoy...lol.

My third alt is my fun alt, who is female. As some others said, it's fun to be someone else, and it's also nice to have quiet time, as it's hard with Crighton anymore. Although, strangely, Aeryn has become as popular as C these days...in fact some of my friends like her better. My feelings should be hurt by that, but I like her better, too. :D

You forgot: To empty lucky chairs and vote for yourself in various contests *lol*

I have alts to store inventory, to show dances to costumers and to hold more than 25 groups. My newest alt is a human guy (I am female in RL). And I started to like him more than my human girl alt. He ist just soo hawt. :D

Also, as someone pointed out to me, they are a set of virtual Barbie dolls.

Bingo.

As a kid I wrote stories and comic books about the various dolls I had, they were fun to dress up, set up house for, and they inspired creativity in writing about their lives and personal relationships.

In other words I was a nerd then too. :)

I forgot one...

dress them all up as ruth, take them to the WA and have them repeatedly play "resistance is futile, you will be assimilated" on a loop while randomly walking into people

To do guy things. I spend about 50% of my time as my alt, but I don't think he's ever posted here.

My first alt was to have a second person in my group. The rest of them came about for expressing different styles and looks, plus they help with privacy while building. As for what I use them for, that would be everything. I don't roleplay any fake characters or personalities, so an alt to me is just like a change of outfit. Each one may look different, but it's always just me behind it and I don't hide that fact. Several people know of them all. In fact, there's one special guy I dated who requested and got 3 of them in one night :p

The bank alt is also an interesting one mentioned regularly. It seems peoples' use for it is to "lock away their Lindens at a place where they can access them, but not too conveniently".

This is pretty similar to the reason why many people put their lindens in an SL bank years ago. So, there's another feature LL could add: a second "Linden$ Ballance" info field. Make it accessible only through the SL website, to allow transfer of funds between your in-world ballance and that one. Just as a step of inconvenience to stop you from buying something on impulse. If you don't have the money in-world to buy something, it won't be taken from your "bank ballance" automatically. It simply HAS to be manually transfered to your in-world ballance first.

I'm baffled/curious how a banking alt could have more money management skills than the main, since it's the same human?

Matter of self confidence, maybe?

If I grant a vendor debit permission and it's buggy, I'm limited to losing the L$ in my main, not in my banker alt.

Oh yes I understand why it might be a bit safer.

But some said they trusted the alt with money because they will spend it all otherwise.

If it were me I'd log in as the alt and spend it all anyway.
