All facts are questionable, want a copy of the 320 emails from LindenLab I recieved over 3 hours detailing each sim the bot IM'd me from? There were 1365 orginally but I didn't download them all and deleted some..
1365 emails in 3 hours = 7.58 per minute.

Methinks that some serious backtracking is necessary ;)

there's no way to know that THAT really happened, or even WHAT really happened.

I have 23 emails within a minute from 23 different sims, and it seems that occurred a few times in the 320 emails I have in my inbox (I didn't download them all and deleted some). Yes the average is lower, some times there was only one email in a minute, I can only assume my name was not the only one being spammed too as the script indicates it reads targets from a notecard list.

just like someone can make the script send a message from another account who is not even inworld, so can a script be written to send messages appearing to come from different locations.

but even if an account was able to visit 23 sims per minute, so wut? what's the big deal of that? i can easily TP 13-17 times in a minute if set my windows up for it. just because i don't have a running script that sends an email everytime i recover from a TP doesn't mean it can't be done.

are you upset that someone can TP so stealthily, or because they can send emails so efficiently?

Then "23 sims per minute" is simply wrong. If you received 23 in the space of a minute, it's because email isn't a continuous flow. Some serious backtracking is in order.

Well make up your mind are you saying a bot can't do this or can do this?
Someone who has made bots has said they can.

Incidentally, there are only 3 sims in that long list of emails that you posted. 23 sims per minute????

That's only 4 of the 24 emails at 7:28am, the sent me up to 25 IM's per email from some sims

It's interesting the pattern, these bots are jumping all over the place, haven't checked more than a 5 or 6 sims but I reckon the flight path probably is the same someone uses for their other bots. Or maybe it check sim with land for sale, seems to be all mainland so far too.
Still you can always study them yourself when you get bombed .

That's only 4 of the 24 emails at 7:28am
Ah, ok. But your figures still amount to 7.58 per minute, and email deliveries are not a continuous flow, so the 23 per minute is wrong.

Btw, I'm not defending the practise of what was done - it's abominable. I'm just saying that the "23 sims per minute" in the thread title is something of an exaggeration.

Wait. I must not be following this correctly. Why do we think there's a bot involved here? We got a bunch of emails coming from an object (or objects with the same name and same owner), from various places on the grid. Because they appear to have a kind of "trajectory" they're likely to be from a single moving object, but that object need not necessarily have an agent attached to it at all, right?

Umm can objects send IM's? I didn't know that.
I suppose the fact that the sims seem to be spread about could mean it was busy IM'ng other people in the other sims as it flew through them.
Or can objects teleport too?
Can you fly faster than TP, in one case I saw the consecutive sims were on opposite sides of the continent in the same minute.
Hmm how fast can you fly? I guess something like a bullet moves pretty quick in SL, is it related to the mass of the object perhaps, which wouldn't matter because the scripts could run inside a tiny prim anyway.
Damn I really should map all 320 emaiils out on an excel sheet representing the grid.
Actually if this was an object, then that's worse, how do you AR an object sending you IM's like this? Even if you were online. Crap, anyone could launch thousands of these things loose on the grid and make bots look tame in comparison.

Absolutely.

Er.. Unless we're talking about two places on the same sim or _maybe_ two places on neighboring sims, where the places are on the grid really doesn't have anything to do with it.

edit: think I misunderstood the 2nd question.. Objects can't TP but they can certainly cross sim boundaries.

Yeah. They appear as green text in the viewer instead of in an IM window, so it's not immediately obvious that they do this.

They can move between sims, and pretty quickly too.

One possibility is that they were moved into place first, and set to start spamming at a later time.

So do object IM's show if you're not online? Other than if you have IM diverted to email?
It could be multiple objects with the same name too then?

Scripts can indeed IM residents (they can't IM another object; object-to-object comms are different from IMs). And, right: IMs, not direct emails--my mistake. That makes it easier for the script, actually, because the enforced script delay on IMs is very short, obviating the need to work around a (much) longer delay for script-generated emails.

Objects can move *very* quickly using an algorithm called "warpPos"... but if they're unlucky enough to "perch" in a no-script / no-object-entry parcel en route, they're screwed. And it's not that fast (nor reliable) for a script to detect "dangerous" parcels ahead, so getting across a continent is non-trivial. There may be multiple objects involved, in that case, or possibly the course was plotted in advance with "way stations" that keep the object from crossing dangerous territory. Sim crossings are still a problem for objects... but I've never really evaluated it myself with a single scripted prim; I'd guess it's pretty fast.

Hmm but these bugs would fly at high altitude anyway, so no script/no entry wouldn't stop them at 1000m?
So do you get the IM's somehow if you'r not online? because I didn't get 1365 IM's when I logged in. Just a capped message and 5 or 6 group IM's etc.

They shouldn't show up in email if you have IM to mail turned off, but there seems to be a bug that these objects have found to get around that. Even the maker of these object seems to have been confused by how it behaved, if the SL "news" outlets are to be believed. =)

And yes, it could be more than one object, see if the gobbledygook differs in the <gobbledygook@im.agni.lindenlab.com> From: address.

Just plain old physics prims can move between regions easily and quickly as well. I remember several grid-wide attacks by physical beach balls that did that about a year ago or so.

Well make up your mind are you saying a bot can't do this or can do this?
Someone who has made bots has said they can.
I think it's *possible*, though I think 23 TPM is probably on the high side of possibility. The point I was trying to make is that it might be possible, even if it sounded a bit extreme, and whatsername was being nasty about it without really knowing if it could be done. Her attitude just offended me at that point in time, for whatever reason.

It would seem to me that what you are experiencing is from scripted objects rather than bots, which is very reassuring, because LL has a better track record of willingness and ability to clean up after offensive scripted objects than they do of handling anything to do with malicious bots :)

[EDIT] Oh, and why doesn't the object owner's name surprise me?

Hmm Intersting, I got 4 different emails at the start of the list but all after after the first 30mimutes seem to be only from one. Of course not sure how many more were in the other 1000 emails I didn't download.
Also the sims visited seem to ZigZag working from the top of one partucular continent downwards a sim on each coast and one in the middle.
I did have IM set to email, so that is why I recieved them, many people may be getting bommbed and not knowing it if they aren't online.
In a way this is way worse than bots, anyone could launch 10,000 of these things before they got stopped, how do you AR something that you don't see, or get anything except the IM message?

You might send the email with full headers to the Lindens, but that I guess wouldn't fit inside the regular AR form so you'd have to use email to get it to them. They must have a way to cross-reference that hashed mess to the UUID.
