I'm really glad to hear that I'm not the only one who sort of enjoys shopping in SL but hates it in RL. I treat RL shopping like a Navy SEAL mission. I map out the mall, figure out exactly what I need and I'm in and out quickly and silently - mission accomplished. I hate it soooo much.

In SL, I actually enjoy it, especially if you're with someone else. I spent some time shopping with a friend a while back, and even though we were looking at all girly stuff, I enjoyed myself quite a bit. We chatted, cracked jokes and wandered around doing our thing. It was a really nice time - much better than a stuffy awful old shopping mall in RL. I swear, if they didn't have bars in malls, I would NEVER go.

I didn't know that Navy SEALS knocked off for a quick round at the local watering hole during a mission. Gosh, I learn something new every day here!

Whats a freebie? :-)

Just kidding...but in all honesty, I never went freebie shopping in SL...EVER!

I just bought what I liked. I figured the freebies were free because they were a poor quality, and that may be true...but I'm sure there is some good stuff out there ....I just never felt like loading up my inventory with mostly junk. Also, theres always a chance of getting a malicious item in a freebie box.

As for shopping now? I don't go that much. Usually just when I see something I might like in SLX or in the forums.
Besides, guys don't have a lot of options for clothes or hair ("Do I want to wear my hair up or down today?" ... "short or long?" lol ... nope....not gonna happen)
and most of the clothes for guys are...yay!...black

I'll just keep wearing my grass skirt until I have something decent to wear. LOL

OMG, love shopping in SL, all the wonderful clothes, and SHOES! In RL, I can only be dragged kicking and screaming to a mall... I even buy groceries online, lol.

Ditto to all the posts about demos, I have so many "What was I thinking?" outfits that looked great on the poster, and not great on me.. I think Adam and Eve is another store that allows you to try on outfits.

I like FINDING the item I want - not always easy. I'll have to try the Navy SEAL mission approach. When I do shop I do it alone. Having someone to shop with you does sound much better. YOU HAVE BARS in your MALLS?!

I love going shopping! In RL, I usually don't have enough spending money to shop as much as I would like. In SL I earn enough that I can go on wild shopping sprees and come back with armloads of boxes and bags that would make Blondie Bumstead proud... and would bankrupt my poor Player if it was in RL. *giggle*

I'll like it even more when I get a faster computer this Christmas, and don't have to wait do long for things to rez. It's dissapointingly difficult to shop when you can't see the merchandise!

Not the ones I frequent but, then again, in downtown Montreal our malls are surrounded by stripper joints... Wifey goes shopping - Hubby goes outside to ogle, heheh
Come to think of it, not too different from some areas of SL

I love to shop, irl, the net,
but in SL can only make basics, suck at graphics, min scripting.animation skills, although I keep trying! so I buy a lot of things I can't make
and appreciate the creators' works, some more so then others!
Ppls do make some fun, interesting and amazing things
and I don't mind paying them for their efforts.

They do if they feel like it. Navy SEALS are pure, Grade A badasses. I was actually thinking about where I head to when the shopping mission is over. In, buy pair of shoes, out, hit the bar for a debriefing.

Isabeau - I think ever mall I can remember going into has some sort of bar. It's often part of a larger restaurant, like a Tony Romas or Applebees or something. Not the greatest hangout in the world, but if I've been subjected to the torture of a mall, then all I want is alcohol and a big screen tv with some sort of sporting event.

Come to think of it, considering the way my day at work is going, that's all I want right now. I wonder if I can kick off early...

shopping is great fun, although oddly IRL I'm more likely to browse, but less likely to go (not having the extra spending money is depressing IRL)

in SL I tend to be on the prowl for specific things, I'm not much for mix and match so if I'm not after a specific item, then it's always sets... I don't browse as much in SL (mostly because the content at my favorite stores doesn't update as often as the RL versions) with one exception... shopping w/ or for other people.... then it's great fun to browse because I'm more interested in finding random things they might like, whereas with me, I already know what I want...

one thing I do hate when shopping both RL and SL, is too much content in too little space.... where every inch of wall or floor space if covered with a million items... it's like being lost in a sea of things I don't care for (or worse if I want it ALL!) and becomes monotonous very quickly... sadly two of my favorite stores (by content) in each RL and SL are like this, so trips there are almost always short.

of course there is only only thing that truly drives me batty shopping...is finding something I love, not having the money on hand, but then going back as soon as I do to find it's gone.... heart breaking

EDIT:
TGI Fridays has awesome Long Island Ice Tea's, Ruby Tuesdays has a yummy Drink that reminds me of a Hurricane... Applebes... well they have Apple Chimi-Cheescake ( cream cheescake, wrapped in a pastry 'tortilla', fried, with cinnamon sugar, and hot apple topping served with icecream.... grr now I'm hungry... thanks alot Trout =P

Like many of the responders, I absolutely hate to shop in RL. In fact, my boyfriend can't believe how lucky he is to have found a woman who hates to shop!

In SL, whole different story. I absolutely love shopping. In my first days here, I spent hours at yard sales and freebie shops. Once I made some real L's, however, I starting spending a little bit more on clothing and shoes (the most expensive thing I own is a pair of Shiny Things boots at 300L). Now that I have discovered what some of the really talented designers here can do, I hardly ever pick up a freebie (unless it is from a quality designer, like Bossa Nova or Pixeldolls). Basically, the day I first walked into Nyte n Day, the store I consider the most pleasant to shop in for layout, variety, quality and price, I turned my back on freebies. It is definitely worth it to spend 150L for a very well made outfit than to load one's inventory with the crap you find in the freebie boxes.

I am often puzzled by this side of me in SL. In RL, I am a jeans, t-shirts and flipflops kind of woman, and would never spend the time shopping for nor wear the clothes I do in SL. But I guess that is what SL is all about: being who we really aren't :-)

I detest shopping in RL. I dislike everything about it. But in SL i enjoy it. Unless it takes forever to rez. I have a problem with textures loading so hundreds of little boxes re rubbish for me. Anyway, If it is made interesting (layout of store etc) I really enjoy it. Most everything I own is a freebie. I think I have probbly spent bout 1000L$ in world total. Most of that I spent today.
I love freebie hunts, though I am now super bored of it and am giving it up for a bit I think. I don't mind trawling through the crap to find the few pieces of good stuff.

At this point I take the attitude that shopping is the key to a successful SL experience. If you can shop well in SL, the rest comes naturally. Others may reasonably differ of course.

I work with graphics all day in RL, and I've come to conclude that making textures is the least efficient and most undesirable effort I can think of: spending two hours on a clothing item is worth at least the equivalent of L$15,000 of RL worktime that I'm seeking a diversion from in the first place. So I love to shop :D I can usually keep it under US$10 a month and still put together an OK outfit on a given night with the SL beautiful people.

RL shopping isn't exactly like pulling teeth; in fact I like it more now. I sometimes look for RL equivalents of stuff I've worn in SL. OK, looking at that sentence I can see that I have a little problem :D

I hate shopping in rl and sl. I don't mind shopping for animations* in sl, though.

*once in a blue moon

Haha, me too!

(Call me anytime you want to shop for fun animations, Osprey! ;) )
