I just listed some new items, and one sold very quickly after listing it, which of course always makes me smile. Not because of the money, but because someone likes my stuff enough to buy it. (I am definitely not in this to get rich, but if I made my stuff freebies, then it would be everywhere and become boring, this way, when ppl buy it they know that they and whoever else was willing to pay, are the only ones to have it (and of course the creator, in this case, me) That is one of the reasons I like shopping at lesser known designers, the chance of their stuff being widespread is a lot less than some of the #1 designers.
anywho, that brings me to my question.
ok... Second Life... it is a game, of sorts, and being that it is a game of sorts, a lot of people tend to "play" second life. Now, in playing a lot of us end up roleplaying, even if it is roleplaying ourselves, and by that I mean, we tend to mimic RL within SL.
Now, when you are in that roleplay, mimic RL within SL mode, do you like to spend money when you shop? I mean, does it fit the feel, to go out and buy stuff? Or would you rather just freebie hunt?
I personally like to shop in SL, and yes that includes spending my hard earned lindens (or purchased ones) and when I do that, it is fun.
It makes me think a little harder about what I am buying, much like RL, if I have to put money on it.
I used to freebie hunt, then got tired of seeing the same ol thing everywhere, which is why I prefer actually shopping.
I am trying to think of how to best ask the question LOL
I guess what I am asking is... do you like to shop, where shopping means actually spending some lindens, and in doing so do you treat it much the same as shopping in RL (social shopping with friends type thing)
The store building preference thread and my recent sale got me to thinking about just what ppl like about shopping hehe.
(sorry I am rambling again)

I hate shopping in rl and sl. I don't mind shopping for animations* in sl, though.

I love shopping in SL...will spend a lot of time doing so, and judging by my checking account in RL, don't have any hesitation spending significant amounts of cash. In RL...I despise shopping.

I'm not much of a shopper in RL. In fact, I kind of try to avoid it as much as possible. If I can buy it online, I'm much happier.
So, SL shopping is a much nicer experience for me. No crowds, I'm left alone most of the time. Pretty pleasant. I usually only go when I'm specifically looking for something I need. Not to browse. Right now, I'm setting up house, so there is a lot of stuff I'm looking for (furniture, landscaping, etc.) and I'm very specific in what I want so there is a lot of just looking around and wasting time. But it beats going into a crowed mall at holiday time!
I do shop for things specifically for role play, clothing, other items, tools I need, etc. I don't mind spending my money at all.
I'm done with freebies for the most part, tired at looking at boxes that have the same ole same ole in it.

I like shopping in RL and SL. However, I actually like it more in SL....no tired feet from walking around the mall and stores, I can easily teleport to where I want to go, and no carrying heavy bags during "one more trip to the car". However, I seem to do my best shopping mostly alone, in both lives. A couple times a year, I shop with my best friend in RL, but I find I actually spend more, needlessly, when I'm with someone. Maybe because they might point out something I otherwise would have missed....lol. Shopping in SL is better, too, in that I can buy the well known designer merchandise, which I can NEVER afford in RL.

I love shopping (in SL and RL)... I need an unlimited supply of money (in both). The only thing I don't really like about shopping is the inability to try on things. I've bought some stuff that looks excellent on the rack, and then goes into the "Wow I'm never going to wear this folder" once I put it on. I also wish I could find lingerie and swim wear that takes the spot of shirts/pants (instead of underwear). The only place so far I've found that offers this is Last Call. But if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Generally, I love to shop (Probably what I spend most of my time doing in SL ). It can often be a case of me being all bored as well though so I'll just go shopping to have something to do, so I'm not sure if that's entirely positive . I can get frustrated however if I'm looking for something specific and can't find what I want anywhere. The new search does help with that since I can focus only on results where it matches "objects listed for sale" rather than the often faked keywords in the description.

I did forget to mention that I still love to find quality freebies. I specifically search for free gifts, so that I can post about them on the blog, which is about SL freebies.

Love shopping. That's all I did the first 2 months I joined. I like quality items, and usually, items you find for free are just not up to par with items being sold, for obvious reasons. However, i am not adverse to using the rare, quality freebie I may encounter. At least, not until the next pretty item catches my eye...

I think it was blaze that has the demo clothes (basically the outfit with demo written on it much like skins) I had thought about doing that but would have to double up prim usage as I do my stuff as boxes on the wall. and I doubt ppl would want to sift through a vendor just to find the demo of an item of clothing. I make my undergarments for both layers (slowly redoing existing stuff, and new stuff will have it automatically) If I sell something that someone needs on an alternate layer, all they got to do is send me an im or notecard with the request. (have done my thongs as pants layer due to someone having a tattoo) maybe ask creators if they are willing to do that, if you really want a specific item on an alternate layer

Have you tried Insolence? I'm not sure , but I think that the last time I was there they had both an "underwear" version and a "tattoo friendly (top layers) version. Canimal has some as well, Extraordinaire, and Nymphetamine.

Personally, I hate shopping. These days I only shop for specific items like seasonal decorations and the like. Or if I'm helping someone else who's trying to find something specific. I don't mind spending a bit of money if I find what I'm looking for. Oh and I have a friend who I reckon is a shopoholic, I sometimes go shop hopping with him for laughs or if he's found a really cool place to check out. And I've been know to go into the occasional hairdressers

I like shopping in RL, but I kind of have to be in the right mood. I LOVE shopping in SL. It gives me that same satisfying feeling of acquisition, at a MUCH lower cost My feet never hurt, I can get to a store across town with the push of a button, I don't have to spend hours pawing through racks to find something in my size, and I don't have to waste time trying things on...they'll fit, more likely than not. Demos are a good idea, though. Blaze does it for their expensive gowns, and Armidi offers demos, too. The one thing that I don't like is going to a shop and seeing product ads that are obviously design artwork, rather than photos of an avi modeling the finished item. I really have not idea what these things will look like.

I have been spending a lot of time recently wandering Live Music events. So, on the one hand I'm filling up a lot of my time that way; on the other hand I actually visited a few shops to get some clothing that fit the theme of some of the music venues. I also need to shop for dance animations. One of these days I'll get something that will allow me to dance. Ironically I did buy some dances a long time ago, but they were for my "tiny" and I haven't been a tiny in a while.
So: 80% Live Music Events 6% Attempting to figure out my inventory - figure out why I have a lot of freebie items I never use, etc. 5% Forum Hangout 5% Logging into and briefly wandering my old home sim (I sold the land, but I never changed my "Home" location, and the "new" owner turned it into a park). 1% Spending some time gazing at my basically empty friend list 1% Visiting Slusic while in SL to listen to SL musicians to see who to look for in world. 1% Shopping 1% Opening Search window and thinking about going back to my "search SL" phase. 0% Actually randomly exploring SL (other than seeing the nice music venues) 0% Setting up my portion of the art gallery I donated tier to support - there was supposed to be a sky gallery for thousands of art objects (paintings and the like) that I have bought in SL.

I really have not idea what these things will look like. Yes, that really annoys me too. You quite often can't see all the details of the garment design and, more often than not, in those cases I'll leave an item I might otherwise have bought. Artistic ads are all well and good as long as they show the product properly. -- Aes

I absolutely detest shopping in RL and will do almost anything to avoid having to go to a real store. Almost all of my RL shopping is done online. I was quite surprised to find that I really love shopping in SL, for good quality freebies and for items that I spend money on. Most of my shopping is for clothes. In RL I don't have that much need for really pretty dress-up stuff, so I buy lots of it here and have a blast wearing it. I do second the statement about wanting to find more places that have demo clothing. There really are a lot of things that look fabulous in the picture and probably fabulous on many different avi bodies, but do not seem to look so great on me. That keeps me from sometimes buying some of the more expensive outfits. Along that line, I have found that a decent freebie from a designer can usually do the same good, as many of a designers outfits will fit in a similiar way.

Yes, I totally love to shop! No, it has nothing to do with RL comparisons, and I don't RP. The only freebies I've ever touched were the few that were right in front of me at the time, and most went to the recycle bin soon after. I wouldn't walk 20m for a freebie I dont think. On the other hand, I spend an insane amount of time looking for the small shops with top quality stuff. 95% of my rather large shopping fund goes to them, usually in large chunks. I dont buy items from multi-vendor machines... because I'm lazy, textures rez too slow nowdays, and I figure if the creator spent as much time and care making it as the level of quality items I'm looking for, it would have it's own display. I Never bargain hunt, and I Never substitute buying something like it from another store, although I DO compare quality on like items. I will always pay tons more for the item that was some perfectionist's loved offspring, instead of the sloppy mass-produced half-attempts that seem to flourish in the big stores. My friends wont go shopping with me! LMAO Either I take too long studying displays, I spend waayy too much when I'm with them, or we find a killer little shop and they end up buying waayy too much and blame me

From: Rhaorth Antonelli I guess what I am asking is... do you like to shop, where shopping means actually spending some lindens, and in doing so do you treat it much the same as shopping in RL (social shopping with friends type thing) (sorry I am rambling again) Hi, I love acquiring new items for my avie and dwelling, so I can then rush-off to try them out. Unfortunately, most stores leave much to be desired. Thus, except for a few places so far, I don't particularly enjoy the shopping process. Here are two main reasons: 1. It's hard to find a variety of clothing for males. I've visited countless men's stores, and have seen very little in the way of great, creative stuff. Females have the world to choose from. Shopping for clothes has become more tedious than anything. 2. Oftentimes, I first search for something, then TP to the found store or store's general area, and then. . .what? Where do I find the thing I just searched for? No signs pointing the way, no TPs offered to the item's location, but there is a large area in which I would have to search. Not fun, and a waste of time. Anyway, I really enjoy buying quality items that makes me feel creative in their use, but generally do no particularly enjoy actual shopping. Avanti

I love and hate shopping depending on my day.. if its unbusy and happy I absolutely love shopping.. I'll do it for a while in SL. RL I don't so much but do like it. If I'm having a bad day I can't shop, I'd spend all my L$ and be broke lol... plus just not as satisfying. On those days I build.

I'm really glad to hear that I'm not the only one who sort of enjoys shopping in SL but hates it in RL. I treat RL shopping like a Navy SEAL mission. I map out the mall, figure out exactly what I need and I'm in and out quickly and silently - mission accomplished. I hate it soooo much.
In SL, I actually enjoy it, especially if you're with someone else. I spent some time shopping with a friend a while back, and even though we were looking at all girly stuff, I enjoyed myself quite a bit. We chatted, cracked jokes and wandered around doing our thing. It was a really nice time - much better than a stuffy awful old shopping mall in RL. I swear, if they didn't have bars in malls, I would NEVER go.
