I have a friend who is being stalked in SL. The guy hass planted chat spy stuff on property, was able to plant locators on her and keeps figuring out where she is. She has reported the abuse but it does not appear the lindens are taking it seriously. The guy is being a pain to her and to her BF. What recourse does she have. She keeps muting the guy who has multiple avatars.
Is stalking OK to the lindens?

Is stalking OK to the lindens? Sorry to hear your friend is having these problems Gwylym. Now, if he is planting stuff on her property, she simply needs to turn autoreturn on (ensuring her own stuff is set to group if the land is deeded). If you have your land options set correctly, you can ensure no one can place anything on your property. It's impossible to plant a 'locator' on someone. If he knows where she is all the time, she either: 1. has friended an alt of his and permitted 'mapping', or more likely: 2. Has just used his noodle and/or social engineering. However, the most effective way to deal with someone like this is to ignore them. Mute them, ban them, and ignore them. Don't reply to any IMs or chat, as tempting as it is to throw abuse back! I hope it all gets resolved.

people tend to find you by looking up the people you hang out with that have mapping turned on as well.... a similar incident and most of my friends turned this off for everyone... besides I'd rather friends IM before dropping in.... this lets me watch IM's and still do things like build mostly uninterrupted.

If they belong to any common groups he can also tell she is online from the group screen, a "Feature" I wish could be turned off.

Preferences / Communication / Make my online status visible only to my friends When checked it hides your status from groups and search.

If she is wearing any object he gave her, it could be reporting her location to him.

5 easy things to do:
1) Disable the build objects and object entry for all residents in your property control panel. While there, pull up a list of everyone that had objects on your land on the About Land tab and manually return anything from someone you don't know.
2) As the above post mentions, enable the checkbox for 'display online status only to friends'
3) Disable the ability for anyone to see you on the map (friends list, and uncheck anyone that has the flag by their name)
4) 'followers', or spy bots that follow a person around can't follow you when you teleport from one sim to another, so if you've been in one place a long time, TP out and back.
5) Open your inventory and search for the word 'WORN'. That will show you all objects in your inventory that you have attached. Look through them *carefully* and make sure that anything that person might have given you and you've forgotten about is gone. Make sure that every attachment you have on is from a known good source, and reset the scripts on everything you're going to keep wearing, just to be safe.

Erm no, your online status will still be visible in groups that both people are members of, which is a pain if the 'victim' is a member of open enrollment groups. To the OP: it's a horrible situation. Lots of good tips already. And yes, even if the 'victim' has all mapping turned off for everyone, it is still relatively easy to track someone just by looking at their groups and picks in their profile. I sorta know this, because it's happened to me. I would also suggest the people affected could send more than one AR. Mutliple ARs are acted on more readily and more quickly apparently. However, since this could almost be considered a private dispute, not sure how much will be done about it unfortunately. Although given that this is clearly harrassment, they might just get someone's attention. Good luck.

Put the body-fat slider right up and change your skin colour to purple, maybe add some over-sized love-handles and abnormal hip width and skinny legs for good measure. They'll lose interest

That doesn't work. I've done some amazing things to my av ... didn't put off the guy at all.
Tell your friend to try telling him she is ready for a commitment ... that should put him right off! I've yet to say those words in SL lol ...
Or failing that - penguin works wonders.
*edit* whoops I hit send. Surreal random responses are very very very tedious after a while, especially if they are trying to upset and/or annoy you.

Actually I had thought of making a line of greeting cards for people you no longer want cluttering up your life. That would be number one, that image It made the guy scream RL apparently. LOL. Yes even more than my monkey face does now. And stop going on about my spot of hedonism, a girl can't celebrate being a single chickie? Sheesh! Next event, I am wearing my squirrel tiny outfit and lobbing acorns!!

Here's an idea, if he's finding where you are based on all the locations in your picks or classifieds, try going to his =)
Stalk him back!
