If your crashing frequency is the same as what it was, then clearly you have some other issue. What is your hardware? (In client, see Help menu, choose About, copy stats about your PC here).

Also, you say you set your network bandwidth to 750. What speed is your download link actually running at? If you are seeing dropped packets (red and yellow bars in the upper right), then you may have your bandwith set too high. Response to this slider is instantaneous - you want to adjust it to allow some headroom for the rest of your computer's traffic as well as SL. You can also just play with it until the little bars are almost always green.

I'll post you those stats as soon as it lets me on.

Yes, check drivers, maybe run some hardware tests. Prime95 is good for testing memory.

Yow! /me runs away

Somebody else will have to answer this one. Your hardware looks fine, assuming your video driver is recent.

But Media Center is one invasive bundle of software. Wouldn't be surprised if something in it were messing up your cache access occasionally (oh, and another thing to check - Norton and McAfee both tend to mess up cache access. You may wish to exempt your secondlife application data from their tender attentions, or perhaps just turn them off for the nonce).

I never use the media software that came with my computer.

I am also using the Killer NIC Network Interface Card.

If that helps.

Since it seems you have a technical problem beyond which viewer you use, I'd suggest posting a question in the tehcnical issues forum with as much information in the original post as possible. Maybe the experts there can help you out.

Good luck :)

Edit to add: just noticed in another thread you mention you've cleared your cache for the first time ever. I'd suggest doing that a little more often (as in regularly), might help with those crashes too. :D

Are you on wireless by any chance? Also, your draw distance is a bit too high at 160. You should lower your graphic settings and work your way up until your bars hold steady green. If you're running every setting at max, your connection may not be able to handle the load and is causing your client to lapse thus terminating the link. Lastly, make sure your machine is not running unnecessary crap in the background as well.

I do not run wireless and two night ago, at the time of my last speed test, the resulst said that I was getting a 4000kbps download speed. By bars do hold pretty steady for the most part, and my comp is capable of quite a bit.

Tell you what, Dark. SL runs ok on my tiny horrid laptop. You send me your machine, and I'll send you mine, and I'll fix yours RIGHT up so it runs SL great. Then, in a year or so? I'll send it back. :D

heh, regardless of whether you use the features of media center edition, many of them are still running and a few are even built into other components....

if it's still around to be found, BlkVipers services listing can help you clean out tons of litteral crap that running but not being used. the nice thing is he describes what each thing is doing, so you know what you want running and not

Nicholaz' BE-s does have one small gotcha, when closing an IM tab, all the tabs to the right of it are also closed...

I know, I'm sorry. I have actually gone through and done a lot of tweaking on my own. For instance, I always use the 'windows classic' visual setup, though I mostly use it because it actually allows for more customization options. I do know that I am due for another trip into the unknown to tweak which programs activate at startup. I run two monitors, mostly on my main I have SL or my current project up and running, with my taskbar on bottom, autohide. On my other screen I have desktop sidebar up, which lets me monitor cpu usage and such, yahoo messenger, and usually firefox, because I do a lot of browsing no matter what it is I am doing. For known things running in the taskbar next to my little clock, there is the program that manages my network card, one that manages my keyboard, I use Z-Board, one representing my anti-virus, yahoo messenger, and I believe another one for windows desktop search, which I normally close out of myself.

I have gone through in the past and done performance tweaking, but I am not sure what exactly would make my crash rate any different than most. I am honestly at a loss. I thought that the Nicholaz client would help.

I dimly remember there being a problem with dual monitor setup....have you tried it with just one active monitor?

Seriously, try briefly disabling your antivirus, as well as any background disk manager/optimizer you may have. They have been known to interfere with the SL cache, causing crashes. This is not a performance-related issue (that is, the fact that your machine is a monster that I covet is not relevant).

I am at work currently, going to be for around the next 5-6 hrs. I am seriously nervous about disabling antivirus. As far as other background tasks, I told you what I normally use. I can close out of firefox and only open it when I need it, and I can close out of the active window of messenger, but I dare not close out of it entirely, due to the fact it is a line for me and those I love to openly communicate. As far as the desktop search, I can close that out with no problem, but the two that manage my keyboard and my network card have to stay. Additionally, The network card happens to have its own firewall, is that any kind of subsitute for turning off my antivirus? I refuse to leave my computer unprotected, as... um... well, you know. I have spent a lot of time and money making it what it is today. :)

Hmmm well with a less performant computer, desktop search might be an issue, but I doubt it with yours. Shutting down the firewall is not a substitute for the antivirus thing, all the firewall will do is block SL, and that is pretty clearly not happening.

If you can't disable antivirus, then configure it (if possible) to ignore this directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your userid>\Application Data\SecondLife

Antivirus programs have a particular antipathy to particular textures, and may attempt to sequester ones with a given bitpattern.

Ok, the reconfiguring of the antivirus, I will attempt when I make it home tonight. The desktop search is not a problem for me to shut down, as I do not use it as often, I just find that ths particular program makes finding something SO much easier than window's standard start menu search option. There may be another program or two running in the background that I may have to manually shut down myself. Back when I played BF2142, I had my computer set up so that NOTHING was ever running besides the game. That was also back when I was working on a single monitor, heh. I used to have a friend of mine that I relyed on for tech support for things I could not solve myself, but unfortunately, there were circumstances and he is currently no longer available.

Question, Nika. What times are you normally in world? When I do get a chance to log in I would like to be able to get in contact with you then as well, and give you all the dirty details. As I said before, I will not be in world for another 5 or so hours, due to work, so I will be here on the forums.
