Exactly. It's a great fantasy..like the easter bunny and the tooth fairy..Kids don't care how it came about .only that it's coming up and it's a fun time of year.. we make a big deal about it..we get all bundled up and take a day and head up to one of the mountains on the property and go tree hunting..we'll make teams and whoever spots out the best tree their team's star goes on top of the tree.. this year me and my niece are teamed up..she's so excited that she wanted us to go up early to look around..i was like..no that would not be fair..let alone it's about having fun that day..the winning is not that important..but we're gonna win it anyways hehehehe christmas eve we spend the night at my fathers cabin and have presents in the morning and a party the night before.. one year the kids were getting where you could see it was becoming all about the presents to them..santas getting me this and getting me that so naa naa naa.. i was like ..omg sis they are getting spoiled..she was like ..ya but what are you gonna do??it's only once a year.. so i thought about it and remembered a trick my dad played on us one year that took that right out of me.. so i mentioned the time our father played this trick..her eyes lit up and she started giggling..omg lets do it!! so christmas morning comes and the kids are waking everyone up..santa was here!! get up santa came C'mon get up!! santa sant santa!!! So we are taking our time making coffee and tea and getting situated..it's amazing how helpful kids are when there are presents in the room..here auntie Tera here's sugar for your tea .mommy here is cream for your coffee.. Sis should we make breakfast first or should we wait till after presents.. all the kids..we're not hungry !!! ok lets wait till after.. Aaanyways we get in our spots and they each bring us a gift.. So i say..lets do something different this year..you kids open your gifts and we'll just wait till you're done and we can open ours after... Yay!!!\o/ So they could only find one gift each..already you could see they knew something was up..hey wow only one each.. well open them lets see what they are.. they opened them and each one had gotten a piece of charcoal in a box.. OMG if you could have seen the looks on their faces when they saw the coal..they kind of looked at each other like..this can't be true..their shoulders all slumped and pouting faces.. i had to hold back from laughing so i pushed my face into my BF's shoulder..my sis took right to the role..omg you kids must have really done something bad to get coal from santa so me unable to look at the kids with a straight face had to do a face palm while i talked to them..i bet santa heard you guys saying he was gettingyou this and that and seeing you were thinking you didn't have to be good or bad..wow i never knew anyone that got coal before(then threw a dig in for my sister) but your mom... she leaned over and whispered into my ear..bitch lol so anyways the kids sat there and watched us start to open our gifts.. And as predicted one had asked if they could go downstairs to watch cartoons.. yes you can go..so they go pouting downstairs and we all just stop and wait listening.. then screams like you never heard before..so we all went downstairs to the rec room and saw santa had put thier presents on the pool table with a letter.. now let this be a lesson..christmas is about giving not receiving..Merry Christmas from santa ![]() _____________________

Today is St Nicholas Day, which effectively kicks off a whole month of festivities. It is a fairly secular event in my house, yet very focused on the symbols, claptrap and distinct family traditions. The tree comes in the house the same day every year...special foods are made all month long...putting up the decorations and making the oranges and cloves and wreaths are as big of a fuss as the cooking...the Nutcracker...special films only watched at this time of year...
Then there is getting the cards out, getting the shopping done, as we get later in the month tracking down local friends to hand out gifts and the homemade sweets and cookies, the big dinners and gifts spanning the 24 and 25...and last but not least the Christmas dip in the sea on the 25th, followed by copious amounts of hot wine and Bailey's as we succumb to pneumonia! _____________________

Oh dear. I doubt that this was what Jiggy had in mind when she opened this thread . . . I'd love to believe in a God who IS "Love." And maybe at Christmas, I do, just a bit. Love is no transgression. But yeah, my whole idea was just to wish a happyness on people. Wow, Scylla, this place has a few wacko dementia candidates signed up. Those who sneer at celebration beware! One day the real world might really leave you alone and you can sit stewing until your personal Old Marley comes a'rappin'. Now wipe your noses, smile, and wish all around you a MERRY CHRISTMAS! Brenda seems to be blue. Can anyone cheer her up?
It amazes me that many people just love to rip apart other peoples joy. I truly hope it makes them happy, brightens their day doing so. It has been tried in here before to have a positive thread but they all soon become destoryed. No ones beliefs or disbeliefs are exactly the same. For those of you that don't believe in God or Christmas, the important thing to me is that you have a happy heart. For those of You that do, God bless your hearts. Yes, Christmas is way too commercialized, but if it gives anyone a reminder to share in the joy of our lives it is well worth it. Whatever it is that you do or don't do, I wish you joy in it and my God does too. |

I know that you are trying, but that just doesn't seem to happen in here as often as it should and you start a lot of it. ((Do you have a friggen clue what dementia really is. I wouldn't put that on anyone it comes close to if not worse then the *C* one.)) |

and word to your xmas! ;0
down the road from me (in rl ;0) is a house where the yard is filled edge-to-edge with all that really cheap, ugly walmart decorations... and on top of the roof is a giant led readout that says 'JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON'... lol i think maybe they should change that to 'walmart is the reason'... ;0 or maybe 'overwhelming pagan culture's seasonal celebrations is the reason for the season'... that isn't to say i get a little warm glow this time of year, although it is spent making food and spending time with friends and fam. jesus may be someone's reason to want to see me lol, but i want to see them because they're my friends. ![]() _____________________

My real father (my stepfather) died of frontal lobe dementia last year. I saw him die by degrees. I saw him dance naked in teh hallways of the hospital ward when he escaped from teh room in which he was locked at night. I watched my young mother kneel down before doctors and beg them to end his life. The only way to survive seeing such an atrocious end to a man I loved is to laugh in the face of all that is cruel and unholy in this world. So bog off. _____________________

They said there'll be snow at Christmas
They said there'll be peace on Earth But instead it just kept on raining A veil of tears for the Virgin's birth I remember one Christmas morning A winters light and a distant choir And the peal of a bell and that Christmas Tree smell And their eyes full of tinsel and fire They sold me a dream of Christmas They sold me a Silent Night And they told me a fairy story 'Till I believed in the Israelite And I believed in Father Christmas And I looked at the sky with excited eyes 'Till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn And I saw him and through his disguise I wish you a hopeful Christmas I wish you a brave New Year All anguish pain and sadness Leave your heart and let your road be clear They said there'll be snow at Christmas They said there'll be peace on Earth Hallelujah Noel be it Heaven or Hell The Christmas you get you deserve _____________________

I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat Of peace on earth, good will to men. And thought how, as the day had come, The belfries of all Christendom Had rolled along the unbroken song Of peace on earth, good will to men. Till ringing, singing on its way The world revolved from night to day, A voice, a chime, a chant sublime Of peace on earth, good will to men. And in despair I bowed my head “There is no peace on earth,” I said, “For hate is strong and mocks the song Of peace on earth, good will to men.” Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: “God is not dead, nor doth He sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail With peace on earth, good will to men. _____________________

I hate Christmas. It is the most over commercialized waste of money I ever seen. I am starting a new tradition this year. Not decorating, not cooking and buying my children very little in the way of presents. The presents will be because you have been so good presents, not Christmas presents. I'm tired of going into debt every single winter.
That being said,I still wish everyone I know a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays and many happy years to come in their lives. ![]() _____________________

jesus may be someone's reason to want to see me lol, but i want to see them because they're my friends. ![]() That's the spirit. (And I'm not being facetious!) I hate Christmas. It is the most over commercialized waste of money I ever seen. That's what saddens me when people want to ban a religious tradition because they've confused it with all the whirring whizzing flashing thingamabobbies everywhere. Then begins the religion- bashing and on and on. It really is two different things. I guess it's a sore spot with me (this isn't to you Rioko btw, just around the topic) because I had a longtime friend who was very extroverted about her atheism (whereas she never even knew my beliefs - she never asked, and I'm not one to trumpet IRL) and spouted venom whenever she'd see anything to do with Christmas - music played inside a shop, etc. (Yet she had a tree and a party each year.) It was very confusing where her anger and venom were coming from. She was raised in a liberal enclave and never had religion 'forced' upon her yet the mere mention of faith had her foaming at the mouth (nearly literally.) So relieved that 'friendship' is behind me. But, that's to illustrate that intolerance is doubled edged. And that, often, those of other beliefs have no idea how often the person they are saying something to has already heard that same thing. People of faith are mocked continually and ironically the Christmas season seems ripe for that each year. |

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank An old man said to me: won't see another one And then they sang a song The rare old mountain dew I turned my face away and dreamed about you Got on a lucky one Came in eighteen to one I´ve got a feeling This year´s for me and you So happy Christmas I love you baby I can see a better time Where all our dreams come true. They got cars big as bars They got rivers of gold But the wind goes right through you It´s no place for the old When you first took my hand on a cold Christmas Eve You promised me Broadway was waiting for me You were handsome....... you were pretty Queen of New York City, when the band finished playing they yelled out for more Sinatra was swinging all the drunks they were singing We kissed on a corner Then danced through the night. And the boys from the NYPD choir were singing Galway Bay And the bells were ringing out for Christmas Day. You´re a bum you´re a punk You´re an old slut on junk Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed You scumbag you maggot You cheap lousy faggot Happy Christmas your arse, I pray God it´s our last. And the boys of the NYPD choir's still singing Galway Bay And the bells were ringing out For Christmas Day. I could have been someone Well so could anyone You took my dreams from me When I first found you I kept them with me babe I put them with my own Can´t make it out alone I´ve built my dreams around you And the boys of the NYPD choir's still singing Galway Bay And the bells are ringing out For Christmas Day. _____________________

I don't like it, therefore I decided to cut the commercialized crap out of MY life. You do what you want. I am an atheist,so Christmas obviously holds no religious meaning to me. Though I do respect people of all religions and would never tell anyone what they should or should not believe. My dislike of Christmas, has nothing at all to do with religion. But everything to do with my credit card bills and the television spouting BUY ME for two months before hand. The pressure to buy people presents that they will probably never use. etc... _____________________
