Winter, all you have to do it look in about land at objects. If you have a land mass of 65536m2 with 3750 prims you have an os sim. Hope this helps~
That doesn't help scripters much, though.

Hope this helps~ For a script to get that information, it's not so tidy because there is no llGetRegionMaxprims. You'd probably have to walk all 4096 4x4 blocks to get all the unique owners, grab their respective llGetParcelMaxPrims results, and tot it up. And even that can be off on occasion, if any parcels happen to transfer during the walk. |

If you want a scripted solution, you shouldn't be trying to check if the sim is an openspace, but how much processor time is available for your script. Your object is as likely to end up in a heavily scripted full sim as it is to end up in a heavily scripted openspace sim.

as a scripter, I wish we had a way to detect if the current sim is an openspace or not. Then it would allow content creators to disable deluxe features, switch to "less pretty but more efficient" processes, etc. But, we don't. I think most people (as stated previously) will figure out that "it's just a laggy sim" and blame LL.. "cause (whatever it is) works fine in other sims". I just check the "About Land". It gives the area and prim count. That works for me. _____________________

Let's not give openspace sims to bad a press. They are a wonderful thing for private use and even for the occasional public use. I've been living on one for 4 months or so now and never noticed any worse lag conditions than I'm used to from full and mainland sims. My neighbour once had a live music event with close to 40 avatars on her openspace sim, and the lag wasn't noticeably worse than at any other venue during a well-attended concert and a LOT better than during the Hair Fair
![]() Openspace sims are the best thing you can get for your L$ in terms of living space. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. |

I have to say that i've been recently going through a slow but steadily growing tickle of IM complaints from people who try to use my scripts at openspace sims, only to find that its underperforming/doesnt work at all.
Rezzer server timeouts, collision detection lag, and an overall very noticeable delay in performance. And yup, I get blamed first before LL or anyone else. Obviously, one should expect something like that from whats technically a void sim - but the end result is that I am still getting these IMs and I still need to sit, hold their hand, and explain why this is happening to them. At the moment the amount of IMs is manageable - but as these sims get more popular, I expect the flow to increase to the point of serious annoyance. I have to agree that we need some scripted method for checking the sim's CPU ratio in the script itself (rather then just figuring out the class of the sim). And Vlad - you said that your sim seems to work perfectly, i'd love to get the name of that region to check it out myself. You got me curious. |

Winter, I put this in a script I have in my Mysti - it tells me if a region is Openspace as soon as I arrive. Thats a nifty solution, thanks! I'd avoid using this on released scripts - the sad fact is that LL may introduce other types of sims in the future that may have higher CPU capacity with less prims available or some other package - rendering this detection unreliable. So i'd keep this for personal usage only or atleast be careful with how I use it. |

Heya CS, I'll get you an openspace to play with and check this stuff out. Just poke me about it - can't remember if you have access there automatically or not. _____________________

Re: the script. I think this works even if the parcel has an object bonus factor... but frankly, I think that's a misfeature of llGetParcelMaxPrims(). There's also a jira requesting some "is this an OpenSpace sim" predicate, at http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2431.

There's also a jira requesting some "is this an OpenSpace sim" predicate, at http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-2431. With the 'margin of error' factor it handles openspace parcels that have a bonus factor of up to 1.25. You could boost the 'margin of error' even more, and it would work ok with openspace parcels with a bonus factor of up to 2.0 which I think is the max. Personally I don't have this in any released products, it's just for my own reference. It's part of a script in my Mysti HUD that tells me the sim name, host name, and current performance levels - and if it's a normal or Openspace sim. Cheers! -Atashi _____________________
