Lil'me

I appreciate the effort and the answer to my question.

I have learned some new facts and trying to resolve issues with this person is no longer important to me.

Have a good day and thanks again.

And having a fliptitle with "hey you muted me" doesn't work either, because they will not see it.

Presumably if you own your own group you could set a tag to say "You muted me" and they would see it?

Pep (I could just wear it all the time I suppose)

So if your group had 250 members you could have them all approach the person with "You muted me" and utterly confuse them, drive them mad and make sure they never mute anyone again?

I was just thinking of the "Owner" role tag, but now you have mentioned it . . .

Your name tag would already show as "Pserendipity Daniels (Muted)" if they have you muted.

If someone doesn't notice that they're not going to notice a group title either.

I suspect I am muted and I am trying to apologize and make nice only to be ignored.

upload a texture that says "i'm sorry, can we talk?" or something and then wear it above your head! LOL

Well, if the avatar is grayed out when muted, wouldn't the sign also be grayed out?

Thus my overhead prim construction. :D

So I tested this with another person. She muted me, I then dropped a notecard on her profile and immediately got the 'person has declined' message, and the notecard went to her trash.

I then modified the notecard to No Copy for next owner and gave it to her after she unmuted me. Then I muted her, she sent the notecard to me, immediately got the 'declined' message and the No Copy notecard went to my trash (all pretty much expected based on previous test). The bad part here is that since the notecard was No Copy for her, the 'only' copy came to me and went into my trash automatically - but not really any different than if she had sent me something No Copy and I had actually declined it on my own.

The interesting part -- she paid me L$1 and it did come thru and I paid it back to her - all while she was muted to me.

lol - as long as Lindens are changing hands everything is jusssssst fiiiiine....... :D Other than that, you're muted!

I guess it makes sense if you have a shop - if someone whom you have muted wants to buy something from you, you want the transaction to go through. I'm assuming you (or your shop vendor boxes) can deliver something to someone you have muted, and you definitely want the Lindens in that case. Plus, Lindens aren't inventory, so they have a separate delivery system, I suspect.

Hahaha ... I should put that right in the profile. Un-mute fee = L$100 :D

/me maintains a mute list that's exactly 0 long. (^_^)

You can't annoy the annoying. (^_^)y

Me too - never seen the point of it. Not sure if I'm annoying into the bargain, although I'm sure some people would say so :D.

It's almost never impossible to resolve differences with enough effort, and if that fails, maybe it's not worth the trouble with that person (as CX has already mentioned). As a last resort, plain old ignoring works fine.

My mute list is long. But it is made up of idiots who like to use multi-line "whoooo" gestures or gestures with sounds included.

I just have a tendency not to go back to places where those type of idiots hang out.

My mute list has on occasion had a few names on it, but they were people that were shouting in my home sim. Their area was bigger than 20m and rather than start a group IM, they would Shout to hear each other.

i might have asked this b4, but i assume the person you mute knows they are muted somehow? If only through no replies to text, IM's or inventory notecards declined etc.
i.e so they get no delivery saying you have been muted by x?

I also believe if you accept an inventory drop from a mutee then that person is automatically unmuted. Deleting someone from your friends list also drops you from their friends list too right?

It appears that if your mutee is close they are greyed out and they have muted above name. I tested this all out this arvo with a friend. You can also TP away, not sure about the text seeing tho.

I usually let a friend of the mutee know that i have muted mr or miss x......just to make it clear that talking to me hereonin is pointless.

appreciate knowing if correct on this.

Winter Ventura makes a "ComMUTEicator Keyboard" which allows you send visual messages to someone that has you muted and is in your presence.

Here is a little blurb on it:

ComMUTEicator is a hovertext echo. Anything you type into local chat will instantly be displayed in a way that the other person can see. But Echo is really just the beginning of what it can do. ComMUTEicator also works with your Babbler Translator, allowing you to bridge the language gap as well.

You can get it here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Healy/122/135/117

1. They don't KNOW for sure, but if you IM someone repeatedly and they don't respond, and your notecards are declined, you can be pretty sure you're muted. There is no "You have been Muted" announcement.

2. "Interacting directly" with a muted av will un-mute them. Accepting inventory, or right clicking the mutee and choosing "send IM" will take them off your hit list.

3. Yes, de-friending someone drops them from your list, and you from their list.

(In addition to Lindal's answer)

If they're online and you drop inventory on them and get an *instant* decline, then you're likely muted (if they were busy you'd get their busy message) unless they just happened to have their cursor on the decline button and have good reflexes :p.

If you have avatar imposters checked (default) and have someone muted (starting with the 1.20 viewer) they'd appear to you as nothing but an attachmentless gray sprite so any hovertext would be invisible as well.

ok thanks for that guys......just one further thing if I may, although I have muted and de-friended a couple who are getting on my nerves, I have noticed that their profile picks now mention me in a derogatory manner.

Is this classified as harrasment?.............seems to be very little I can do to stop them doing this. Now everyone else can see the lies they propagate everytime their individual profiles are viewed by sl residents. Needless to say I expect people to IM me now, to ask if all this is true and probably laugh at my expense.

All because I muted an ex sl gf and her new bf (my previous best mate) over some rather slutty photographs and messages they chose to send me. Gee I need this like I need a hole in the head.

Thoughts appreciated

I only temporarily mute people or things.

Some idiots like to wear planet sized wooden ball prims, and they are muted.
But after a quick 10 minutes I already notice they took it off, because they notice it's wrong. Some don't. They are the usual trolls.

Especially when I'm working in Hanja, I meet a lot of these people.
They never intended to enjoy SL with others, but just make people feel like shit.

I wish I had a ban hammer in Hanja. I could easily kick everybody off the grid who trolls others. Especially in Hanja where also the good newbies arrive, are often scared off by horny guys and harassments.

Also those who join, and scream around that everybody is dumb to play this game, and "forbid" newbies to progress. I wish Linden Labs would keep more order in their landing zones. There are simply no active moderators in most landing zones.

LL should make this place a bit better for those trying to.

Whether or not the GTeam will do anything about it probably depends on just how obvious it is that it's about you (from a third party's point of view) or is generic enough to not make it sound derogatory unless you're "in on it" though.

I'd ask yourself if Random Linden would know the pick is about you. If it blatantly is to someone random then definitely go ahead and AR and ask friends to AR it to.

If it's not so obvious do still AR it, but if you can get them to actually admit that it's about you (for example by asking them to take it down and they slip up and confirm that it's about you) that would obviously help your case. If you can then AR with the IM/chat tab open so it's included in the screenshot (along with the offending pick open, which may require some juggling things around on the screen).

Good luck.

(Short note: you could ask a friend who's involved to ask them to take the picks down as well, but be very careful that they just paraphrases responses rather than copy/pasting them since the latter is disclosure)

I don't think this will work with the release candidate viewer. All you see of a muted person is a greyed out imposter silhouette.

You can "drop" the ComMuteicator, and they can see it then. Just no while it's attached. it's only 3 prims, so it can be rezzed pretty much anyplace that allows build.

it's a workaround, admittedly.

However, WITH the greyed out avatars, the new client also has an "auto unmute" feature.. so if someone pays your vendor, they unmute you, if they IM you, they unmute you.. if they send you a notecard, they unmute you. So ComMUTEicator's primary use (helping shopkeepers deal with customers who don't hear them) isn't really NEEDED anymore.

That said, ComMUTEicator still works just fine for talking to Restrained life users. (the secondary reason it was designed for).

The tertiary reason, helping new users and "trying to talk through mutes in general" with someone who clearly WANTS to talk to you but can't understand that you're muted.. is reasonably solved by rezzing the keyboard on the floor. I'm considering another option, but honestly, the work:benefit ratio is pretty low. Since the poor planning on LL's part, has been amended by the auto-unmute-on-direct-interaction function.

Get them to IM you, or send you a notecard.. and the problem goes away. Solves the issue with people muting store owners. Once they've sent the notecard or IM complaining that they didn't get the item, you know you're unmuted again, so resending should be all you need to do.

ComMUTEicator was never intended to help you continue to chat with people who REALLY don't want to talk to you... since people who don't want to talk to you, will rarely stand there and watch your floating text. It DID work for that.. but eh. You had to be RIGHT there with them... Not so needed with 1.20.17 being required.
