There's an option in the chat window to show muted text. If that's not on, they're muted - you shouldn't hear them even if they're shouting in your face.

Muting doesn't change scripts you have that listen on channel 0, though - muted people will still get heard by the script.

No one is bugging me. I am trying to communicate with someone and I suspect that I have been muted. Since I was in sight of them I probably have been ARed as a Greifer too.

Are you using the 1.20 viewer? If so, and if you haven't turned Avatar Imposters off, muted people will be all grayed out..

Well, if you did nothing wrong, don't sweat the possible AR, but you know that. After that - well, if they don't respond to you, leave them alone and chalk one up for the cold shoulder. :/

I can't run the 1.20 viewer it crashes my puter.

I don't have anyone muted, blocked or banned from my property. I suspect I am muted and I am trying to apologize and make nice only to be ignored. That is the source of my question.

... Then again.... I wonder how often I get muted.... I'm sure there are some people that get sick of the smilies after a while. (o.o)

Oh.. I had it backwards..

Maybe do a "I'd like to chat but you have muted me" titler. Or do a texture for it, slap it on a 3x3m box and drop it near the person..

Oh, I'm quite sure I've been muted more often than I'm aware. I know MY mute list reads like War and Peace.

If that's not a big concern, I'd suggest getting a cage gun and retexturing the inside with the message he wants to send.

lol - cage the person you want to make nice with and hold up a prim sign with your apology on it. Not a bad idea, Meade!

CX - if you suspect you are muted and you really just want to get an apology to the person, maybe contact a friend and ask them to deliver a message.

In the alternative, if they have you muted, they are probably completely happy not having any communication with you ever again. That may hurt, but it may also be the cold, hard truth. Some people don't want apologies and might not even accept them if offered - they just want to be left alone.

If you are muted does that mean they don't see notecards you offer them either?

Muting does not stop someone from dropping inventory on you. It stops text, and sound. I believe it's because you can decline the drop.

Muting does stop inventory drops. Otherwise the harassment would be endless.

And having a fliptitle with "hey you muted me" doesn't work either, because they will not see it. You need to use an alt to talk to that person, or a friend, to find out if you have been muted.

There is also the possibility of an accidental mute. I did that once to someone - just like I accidentally hit the 'offer friend' part of that pie menu on someone before and ended up offering friendship when I did not want to.

I knew that if I muted someone, I would not get their inventory offers - however I am curious on how it is handled:
1) do they get a 'declined' message or no indication at all?
2) will the auto-declined inventory end up in my trash like it would if I truly got the blue pop-up and declined it or like the auto-declines that happen if you are in busy mode?

Really thought muted people could drop inventory. Learn something new every day. :/

I don't know, but I think it stops it entering inventory completely. It needs testing to find out if there is a notice.

Well I accidently muted my buddy and didnt know it. Wondered why I hadnt heard from her in a few days, we talk each day. I tried to send her notecards they went out on my end but apparantly she never got them.

Then her Fiancee IMd me and said why did you mute her? Till then I didnt know.

I had a friend accidently mute me, I could hear them, but they could not hear me.. They were getting very upset that I was not answering.. I finally just created an alt and sent them an IM, telling them that I was muted and to please un-mute me so I could answer.

Now I know what I'll be doing with my alt this evening.

So I tested this with another person. She muted me, I then dropped a notecard on her profile and immediately got the 'person has declined' message, and the notecard went to her trash.

I then modified the notecard to No Copy for next owner and gave it to her after she unmuted me. Then I muted her, she sent the notecard to me, immediately got the 'declined' message and the No Copy notecard went to my trash (all pretty much expected based on previous test). The bad part here is that since the notecard was No Copy for her, the 'only' copy came to me and went into my trash automatically - but not really any different than if she had sent me something No Copy and I had actually declined it on my own.

The interesting part -- she paid me L$1 and it did come thru and I paid it back to her - all while she was muted to me.
