It might be a more effective use of time to use an online collaboration service like Zoho.com, that has collaborative spreadsheets, word processing, planners, email, database processing, video web conferencing, personel management and recruiting, chat and more.

Google Docs plus the new Google Sites (formerly JotSpot) would also be good.

For jabbering with your buddies SL is fine, but if you want to collaborate on press reports, campaign plans, etc., systems that use data formats like text files, html pages, pdf files, etc. that can be distributed out on the web or printed on paper would probably be more effective.

There was a time when it would have been attention getting for a political party to have a place in SL, but I think that at least in the US that time has come and gone. I contacted the Libertarian Party national headquarters before the Democrats and Republicans had done anything in SL of a press worthy nature and they didn't take my advice. The coverage that Dems and Reps got showed, to me at least, that I was right and the Libs should have bought a few islands at that time. Too late now.

Also if your goal is to reach people in the organization you are politicking in but your goal is to effect real world political change you would do better to work in an outfit with a much larger userbase. Facebook and MySpace, for examples.

Robin take note, your platform needs a social group raise. New kind of group, communication only but we both know that's the Jira request with the most votes and it pains me to point out the obvious, but this will be the death of your platform. Sort it out.

Sorry, Ciaran, usually I understand your posts, but this one... huh??? I honestly don't understand what you're trying to say here.

Although RL politics and religions are allowed in SL I don't like them being here.
That's just a personal view. If people want to create purely in-world SL political groups like a Jeogeot Independence Movement or a 'Open Coastline For ALL' group or a 'be nice to avatars' group, fine.

Dearly Darlings,

I think Atashi Yue intended to say sophomoric. I don't think anyone in the Obama camp would be much impressed with virtual supporters using digital extensions of any sort.

For those of you who do not speak English:

sophomoric

meaning 2

suggestive of or resembling the traditional sophomore, esp. in intellectual pretention, conceit, over confidence, assumed knowledge, or the like.

I find that the discussion of politics brings out the worst vitriol here in Second Life. What a shame!

You all have a lovely day.

Ever Yours,

Mrs. Showdog Tiger

Democrats belong to the Democratic Party and Repugs belong to the Repugnant Party.

This is great example of why team politics suck.

It's about the nation, it's not about about how immature you can be just because someone doesn't share your idea of how to lead the nation.

Personally, none of our current candidates are worth the price of a well fed pig. And a well fed pig could probably do just as good as any of them running the nation.

The average person votes the way thier parents did. Too few even know what platforms the different parties represent, much less the individual candidates.

Quit voting for political parties.
Educate yourself.
Vote intellegently.
USA is a Republic, not a Democracy. Become part of the elite or follow what they say. The choice is yours.

Oooh! I can be Comrade Oryx! Can I wear big mink coats and those cool furry hats with the star on the front? I'll sit in the SL Kremlin and eat caviar while the peasants [oops, sorry, I meant "my comrades"] run around singing doleful Russian ditties in their sackcloth.

*looks around carefully and appears, slightly relieved*

Hand me a sim and I'll build you the Kremlin, Comrade Oryx.

Indeed, a Representative Republic to be exact.

Not entirely true

The political elite are supposed to represent the non-elite.

Some even do.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't be allowed...

*contemplates creating a communist movement and runs away before stingy comments start flying around*

I saw a profile the other night when I was at an event and doing my random profile reading thing. It listed a Communist group, so apparently at least one is already in world.

I thought that was "Constitutional Republic" - (just a term I picked up in a series of classes I took to try to educate myself to be a more intelligent voter.)

Pretty much,

Constitutionally Limited Republic is the term often used.

Since the constitution places limits on the powers of the branches of government.

------

Representative Republic is also correct,

But Republic usually refers to a representative government anyway, so some might see the qualifier as redundant.

Its often stated that way to contrast it to a "Democracy" or "True Democracy" where all the people would be able to vote on every issue.

Of course "Democracy" is also used to describe governments where people are able to elect their own representatives without fear of repercussions from the government.

That description of "Democracy" is often overlooked by those who like to emphasize the "Republic" status of the United States.

I think Constitutional Representative Republic would probably be the best description.

Speaking of Mr Obama, everyone's favorite Rapper DMX recently gave his views on the Campaign. Due to language, I won't post it here, but the political questions start about halfway down the page.
