Set the land to auto-return and accidently returned most of my partners stuff, she rarely remembered to wear the group tag when building stuff. She had a separate piece of land she built on often as well, and rarely remembered to change groups.

Id taken 2 months to build a small yet lovely beach & sky resort..20 skyhomes, 11 beach houses...pretty much full to capacity with people renting...so one day i decided it would be much better to group all the land..and youve guessed it...stood there and watched most of the sky & land items whizzing back into my lost & found lol. Had to close the whole resort and rebuild AND refund residents rent pfft. The nice thing was...MOST of them decided to move to my other beach & sky place, then returned when Id rebuilt...that gave me a nice glow :)

Is that another thing that I rezzed and didn't get yet, or is it supposed to be there? :)

Heh, no, I put it up there months ago. :)

I've been bitten by the auto-return / group land bug as well. The worst was when I got my first island, I spend a few days setting up the public beach area, getting the plants and buildings and things all just perfect. Everything was actually finished and I sat back to relax at the bar, when I noticed that I had forgotten to turn on auto-return. A moment later I was standing in an empty barren beach, along with a half dozen other people. I was praying that it was a rendering problem with my client, and that all my work didn't really go *poof*. Some stuff was back in my inventory, I rezzed dozens of linden plants in order to find my expensive furniture and buildings. In the end one structure was never recovered. To rub salt in the wound, when I went back to buy a replacement, SL crashed me out after my money was taken but before I received the item, then I got that dreaded 'your account won't be available till XX:XX PST' thing... it seemed to take forever before I could get back in and buy the thing a Third time :(

I've also had the problem of too many prims for the parcel to support -- I wanted to get an SLX terminal at my mall and was thinking of the best way to get it set up. I thought to slice out a 16m chunk and set that bit up for the terminal. The problem was a) the entire area was deeded to group, and the bit I sliced out I put back into my own name, and b) I forgot about the 2 or 3 levels of Mall and all the vendor boxes above me. So no sooner had I set up this 'empty' spot then I get the warning, and look up to see a big chunk blown out of the mall, missing walls, floors, ceiling, and vendor prims. :)

Sounds like my biggest RL disaster. And second biggest. Third.... maybe fourth too?

I sincerely hope it wasn't the same one at any stage honey. Wait it can't be ... you didn't expire of boredom and being suffocated :)

What are other peoples' disaster stories?

A little more than a year ago, we decided to to some changes to the land ownership at home. The front plot was going to be group owned, with me as the primary owner, and another plot behind would be split off and continue to be owned by my mommy.

Unfortunately, we did not consider that my nana had a house on that secondary property, and it was using far more prims than the new, smaller plot could support.

All was fine, for a moment, after we split up the land. Then chunks of house and furnishing started appearing in my nana's inventory, and vanishing from the land. I was so mortified. I think I apologized to nana about a billion times, and off we went ot a sandbox to try to stich all the pieces back together.

I learned that lesson - the hard way!

My biggest disaster was 'losing' over 1000 items from inventory. This wasnt my fault, they just went walkies. All my expensive animations, parts of outfits from clothing, expensive scripted 'food' items. Loads of stuff. The worst part was the time it took to discover all the losses. its not until I went to use something that I would realise it was missing.
I contacted some of the creators of the missing items. Some were good and replaced them, others didnt even answer my notecard.
So....now much wiser I restocked a little and kept my inventory down to a minimum. Lo and behold about 6-7 weeks ago I happened to glance at my inventory total...now being very aware of how many items I should have and bingo....approx 500 less items.
I submitted a ticket the moment I realised inventory was down, needless to say I havent had a response yet.
And yes theyve really gone...same thing again...parts of outfits and animations and scripted food items...why does it seem to be these items that are affected each time...any ideas?

When more than half my inventory went missing, I noticed that the majority of the stuff that stuck around were in the SL created and undeletable folders. My "Animations", "Shapes", "Skins", "Art" and similar self-made folders were empty after the loss (and "Outfits" was at about 50% empty), while the folders like "Body parts", "lost and found", "objects", "clothing", etc. still seemed to have most of the stuff in there - the stuff I hadn't gotten around to deleting. That's what I get for trying to make my inventory managable (Though "Hair" and "Vehicles" remained largely intact somehow). Now I make sure I have my shapes, skin, hair in the body parts folder, but I haven't done anything with clothes yet.

Oh, and "parts of outfits" - My favorite dress had the prim skirt just vanish on me, and since it was a transferable item, no copy. Oh, and it just vanished on me while I was wearing it - I mean I was wearing it, crashed, came back and it wasn't on me nor in my inventory.

Same thing happened to my wife. A total uninstall and reinstall of the client fixed the problem. She lost over 10,000 items too and was freaking out about it, so I logged into her acount on my client and saw everything was fine. I reckon something to do with caching of inventory on the client was corrupted - and nothing but a resintall of the game could fix it...

Hope this helps.

I use subfolders under the SL-created folders. Makes it easier to find new stuff when it comes in.

I have about 5000 items in inventory... knock on wood - nothing has gone missing so far; but who knows after this update...

My biggest disaster thus far was spending my first few weeks trawling (then) deserted yard sales going "Oooh, a box of a billion clothes for $1L! That will be SO handy!" or "Wow, a selection of trees for FREE? That will be so useful!" and then not ever suffering the relief of an inventory loss.

Hehe, just 5000 items? hehe. My subfolders under the SL-created folders were also eaten. Not the folders themselves, but the items in them. Irritating to see a subfolder within a subfolder as it looks like something might still be there. :)

Note: That relief? That bug will eat everything you want to keep, and leave you everything you don't want to keep - - - at least that is my experience :)

Not really a disaster, but pretty messy...

When I used to live in another sim, the owner decided to evict everyone with a minute's notice and do an auto return. I was renting 4 lots at the time and using all my prims to give you an idea of how much stuff I had. Back then, there wasn't a special icon for bundled items, I don't think.

Well, to continue the story... I also had a boyfriend with his own home at that time. We shared item permissions and I decorated and landscaped his whole place... buying and placing many of the items myself. Most often, he would just reimburse me for what I bought afterwards.

But back to the fiasco... I had recovered some of my things from my eviction but there was still many things missing. My boyfriend had free prims so one day, I figured I'd pull out a few things to see if any of my missing items turned up. Lo and behold... I pulled out a poseball set and out popped all my missing belongings into the sky.

But.... a whole household of furniture was more prims than he had left on his land and guess what? As my stuff popped out... all the furnishings that I had decorated his home with were auto returned to me because I pushed over the prim limit.

Soooo... after retrieving all my things from the sky, I had to start pulling out and re-arranging all of his furnishings again. It was a busy day. :D

So far, my biggest disaster was some poorly chosen words spoken in spite and anger at someone who should have never received that treatment from me...

The repercussions were almost enough to make me quit SL altogether.

The plus? I can't F*** up any worse than that, and they still came back to me...stronger than ever.

My HUGE diaster

I'd just managed to find 2560sq joined, with 1536sq nearly ajacent to that, and another 1024sq for sale near the fringe of a mainland Sim... I was in perm heaven, 1170 perms! All that land for just a tiny bit less than 15K too (just before land prices started going crazy)! Excitedly I put my older, piddly little 2560sq up for sale at a bargan price and began building my "dream" club. I worked late into the night and after only 3 hours sleep I was back at it again. By midnight I was done with construction, after nearly 24 hours of labor. I dashed off to shop for all the nifty new items I wasn't able to use in my first club because of the low perm count. By 4am I'd finished buying all the newest and coolest thingies for my new club so, anxious to see it finished, I began placing things around the club. Oh I was so excited, exhausted, but too excited to stop.

Around 5:30am that morning I'd finished, but like most builders, after proudly examining the fruits of my labor I noticed a couple tiny "blemishes"... places where a wall was a hair off in height from the others or prims overlaped a bit. Instead of waiting until I'd had some sleep I decided to "tweek" it, then collapse from exhaustion. Yep, you guessed it. At first i was totally dazed and confussed. Almost 2/3rd of the first floor of my "masterpeice" just vanish into thin air! I didn't have a clue what had just happened. I was in shock! Floor, walls, ceiling (2nd floor floor etc...) were gone. Then my silly, tired brain replayed that annoying dialog I'd quickly clicked just before the big poof. To make matters worse, like a TOTAL idiot I tried to rebuild what I'd just deleted and made a total mess of what was left. All those hours spent building were wasted.

After 5 hours sleep I went back to work re-making and re-building everything I'd deleted . I couldn't remember exactly which textures I'd used on some parts so it was doubly frustrating. But after another 12 to 13 hours it was agian finished. It wasn't until the next day, while I was arranging my inventory that I found everything I'd thought I'd deleted just sitting there in my trash bin, all nicely linked together!!! It just never dawned on me to look there being so tired, plus I was only 3 months "in-world" and still new at all this. So, I wasted about 13 or so hours of labor but, I'd learned a valuable lesson... don't try and do things that require concentration in SL when your tired! I can giggle about it now but beleive me, at the time all I could do was cry! LOL

Came home one day last week to an email from my landlady informing me that my 8K was being reclaimed and sold and I had to get out immediately. I was given half what I had paid for the plot in recompense. I had a house and outbuildings I had built myself, extensive landscaping and terraforming, etc. Some panic, some mad packing, some wondering if I would ever see my home again.

Hit the Search. Find an 8K in the same position on another island, for less money than I had been given, with a tier a dollar less than the current one. I was settled in the new space in less that twenty-four hours. I still have a bit of refining to do, but what the heck, I made money on the disaster. The only difference in the new place is that the sand is a slightly lighter color. I can deal.

Oh, and the new owner who kicked everybody out overnight? Last name Fairplay.

My partner and I were intimately engaged and naked when SL had a huge sim crash. Upon relogging the server could not log us in at our home so we were rerouted to a neighborhood welcome area, naked and complete with naughty bits. Surrounded by strangers we tried teleporting home, which did not work for the first several attempts. After that experience we both started keeping a folder full of cloths at the top level of our inventory so we could quickly dress when needed.

LMAO this happend to me, We ended up in a train station!!!!

I'm not that great.. she was laughing like crazy.. I was scared she'd fire me XD

Thats about it tho... i roll with the punches =P

getting partnered

Well, mine was the opposite. Almost had the partnering. Almost partner left SL. At this point I've spent more time out of SL as Sonia than I have in SL as Sonia since I started in March since I couldn't really get myself to log in as Sonia. An even greater disaster is if I hadn't created Lexxi to escape without leaving SL.

edited to note: There is at least one other thread where someone got confused between Lexxi and Lexii. Lexxi Gynoid is my other name, not Lexii Walcott. Just to avoid any "wow, talking to yourself again?" type comments.
