What is the worst thing that's happened to you in-world? I come to this question fresh from my own disaster yesterday. I decided to transfer the Egotherapy Centre's land to a group I control along with the dumb testbot alt. I thought the extra tier allowance might come in useful. Without thinking I reset the land to 1 minute autoreturn, like it was when it was solely my property. I was just standing there when all my stuff disappeared, like a tornado ripped through but without even leaving any debris! I forgot that I had suddenly changed status. What's even worse, most of the bits and pieces didn't turn up in 'lost and found'. It was time to reach for my 'cry' gesture. Anyway, I got on with the job of reconstruction and built a new Egotherapy Centre, basing it around one of my house design and it looks OK and it uses fewer prims than before. But this brought home to me how one little error can result in catastrophe. Just suppose I'd had a whole sim full of stuff, it doesn't bear thinking about. Sim owners take note!!! What are other peoples' disaster stories?

you should have been able to retrieve all of it as one clumped item from your lost and found
ive done the same thing before by accident and it returned my home and all furnishings to me and hubby and returned my entire store in the sky...almost 3k prims all lumped together in a mess lol

The most important feature SL missed, is an undo button One day I decided I could do without a certain prim in a building i was designing, and I hit delete before noticing half the building was linked to it. Took me some hours to rebuild that structure... Another time I had a piece of land, a small mall and an SLX terminal on it. Just got that terminal 1 day, when I decided to deed the land to another group (don't recall why). And away was my terminal, which ment to wait 30 days before getting a new one. And the one renter I had, got her stuff returned as well We cannot use an undo button in real life, but neither can we fly. So either I want flying ability in RL, or an undo button in SL Greetings, Marcel

Only a few bits and pieces have turned up in 'Lost and found'. I rezzed the clump and a washbasin appeared on my neighbour's land - where the rest of the bathroom was i have no idea!!

Similar thing happened, with a 24 store mall. Had the land SET TO GROUP and decided to DEED TO GROUP. I did not think that would affect any prims as they were set to group already. WELL... the split second that SL took to do the transaction, about 80% of the parcel was returned. Not all, just most of it. Some stores were completely wiped out or 1/2 standing.
Next time I will turn off autoreturn first. As a matter of fact, anytime I mess with land settings with a build on it, my palms get cold and shaky.

A friend of mine had stripped down to get in "the act" with her SL boyfriend, and got a teleport request from another guy friend. She accidentally clicked the "yes" to the teleport... totally in the buff... Suffice to say, the guy was shocked.

Worst disatser was when I was setting up a new house and acidentally 'took' one half of it because I didn't lock it.... I was able to put the 2nd half back...but it didn't place correctly, and it was completely unlinked so when I tried to move it I totally screwed it up. Being sort of new I didn't know about linking and I tried moving the entire thing bit by bit.....what a nightmare LOL I wound up just buying another house and starting over...remembering to 'lock' it down~!! That's really it....nothing ctatstrophic has happened since then (knock on wood lol)

I had lost a bunch of inventory, so I was going through my inventory trying to rebuild it and rezzing, keeping and deleting, etc. Then I ran across a bunch of "objects" that started rezzing my old galleries. I'm sitting in a castle, in the bottom layer rezzing away. Suddenly the area is filled with walkways, paintings, plants, benches . . . oops. Only last night noticed another of my paths hidden under the ground, and two signs hidden underground on another person's property (under another person's property). Let me restate: I rezzed one thing called "object" - it rezzed an old gallery that I had on land I had sold a long time ago (oh, and this is how I found 70% of my artwork that I thought had been eaten by SL - in clumps from old land deals). One object rezzed the old park gallery I had. Another "object" rezzed the old indoor gallery that I had . . . including the building. I stopped looking in my inventory after that. Sitting there trying to not do anything wrong and . .. oops . . houses and plants and . . oops.

If you have a sim-wide disaster, you can always ask the lovely guys at LL to do a sim rollback.

I was building on a sky platform that was too close to the ground. I wanted to clean up by selecting all the objects on the platform and deleting them, but I did not notice that I was also selecting all the objects below the platform on the ground! When I returned to the ground, I could not understand where my house and everything inside went!
So now, I have the sky platform at 600m and be careful when the "Limit Selection Distance" is not checked.

Right now, I'm pissed off earlier to wake up and find my house borked. I'm sure I've had more interesting stories to tell but this is fresh in my head, SL is down for maintenence now and I can't do a thing about it.

I was 3 month-ish old, had recently (a week or so before) moved into my new rental. I was cleaning out my inventory and rezzed a (boxed) collection of scripts a friend had given me. 10-20 seconds later my house was burried under an ever-climbing mountain . The box was continously being pushed up and burried by the landscaping one of the scripts inside was doing so it was hard to get to (and I was still new, and I was really panicking). After a minute or two I finally managed to delete the box, but I was still stuck with a 100m+ "mountain" on my rental. I was really worried the sim owner was going to show up and just throw me out . I think it took close to half an hour to landscape things more or less back to the way they were before (the terrain had never been baked in after landscaping which didn't help) .

This was years ago, but I was working with a buddy on the Shelter Pool. It was nearly complete, and we were just doing the final linking of all the pieces & parts. In order to do what we were doing, I had to give my friend permissions on my objects from the calling card, so he could help me edit them. Accidentally, he took up a section that was 1/3rd of the pool into his inventory. Realizing what happened, he immediately re-rezzed it & put it back out into position. It was then we both realized in our horror, that my friend was the new object owner of 1/3rd of the pool - and he received 'next owner' permissions - rendering the whole thing no-mod, even though I was the creator. For months after that we just lived with a pool area we couldn't edit

Another thing to watch is to make sure that your land isn't set so that anyone can terraform it, because if it is, sooner or later somebody will. Someone did it to a corner of my old home once. If you have a nicely landscaped undulating garden it would be very difficult to return it to how it was.

Back when I was building the first SL Botanical Gardens in Federal, I was actually done with the build out and during a transfer of land ownership from myself to the group managed to auto return every single prim not owned by me. I returned every single item from Khamon Fate & Higbee plus waterfalls that had take days to build by Laukosargas and Falllingwater Cellardoor. I think I didn't log in for days afterward, the sense of defeat and humiliation was so crushing....

nothing more disastrous than accidentally deleting half of a house so far. unless you count being bitten by the lost inventory bug twice on the same day, with two copies of the same item that you just bought _twice_ (after you lost the first one), while your girlfriend waits for you to return with said item.

Having a certain adcutting land baron (CF) who became the SL partner of Coldwell Banker swoop my land when plots used to stay listed for sale when you joined parcels and steal 3000 meters from me.
2nd place: Selling a plot of land that I was using for prims and watching my build on my remaining land disappear.

I've had to deal with this exact same incident on a residents parcel, exactly the same conditions, script box rezzed and a huge mountain forever climbing upwards, very funny

My partner and I were intimately engaged and naked when SL had a huge sim crash. Upon relogging the server could not log us in at our home so we were rerouted to a neighborhood welcome area, naked and complete with naughty bits. Surrounded by strangers we tried teleporting home, which did not work for the first several attempts. After that experience we both started keeping a folder full of cloths at the top level of our inventory so we could quickly dress when needed.

I witnessed this multiplying box thing happen somewhere once, all over a house and I assumed it was the work of a griefer! Like I say, being a naturist I don't get normally get embarassed about being without clothes but on one occasion I went to visit a clothes-optional beach, forgetting it had moved and used the old landmark that dropped me in my brithday suit in the middle of a green with houses around it.

From: Raymond Figtree 2nd place: Selling a plot of land that I was using for prims and watching my build on my remaining land disappear. I've done that - selling land and thinking I had enough prims for my build and only after the land is sold does half my house disappear for lack of available prims.
