Hello all

As I was doing things in SL, I found out that SL has private investigators. This is something I am very interested in.
Anyone knows where I can go to get training and possibly be hired as one after training?

Thanks

Ewwwwww . . .

You really want to trail some sleaze bag around SL, trying to obtain proof that he/she is engaged in some tawdry little cyberaffair?

Icky.

Sure.
I would love to learn about PI and experience it in SL :)

I think it would be awesome if, and only if, the scenario was a lot like "who framed Roger Rabbit"...

I'm a little surprised, Des. I'd have thought this would have been more up your line:

These types of services can be more prevalent and popular than some folks realize. Paranoia can run deep here and people will pay for this kinda stuff especially when it comes to relationships, questions of infidelity and also with respect to competitive intelligence. Here are two articles I recall reading about PIs in SL:

http://secondlife.blogs.com/nwn/2005/03/watching_the_de.html
http://foo.secondlifeherald.com/slh/2009/02/private-eyes-for-hire-in-sl.html

I have no personal experience with them but I do know some people that have. With regards to getting hired or trained, I suspect there can be some shady characters in the business so tread carefully especially when it comes to being asked to do things that have the potential to be in violation of the TOS.

Or you could just train yourself by watching this show http://www.cheaters.com/

I wonder if these services go against the TOS

I'm sure it is a balancing act, for sure. It's probably a short step from PI to griefer, or voyeur anyway.

Sounds like a great opportunity to RP a sleazebag if only for the sake of it - just as much fun as any number of other things folk like to do in SL.

There seems to be plenty of raw material to work on with all them griefers, shady businesses and errant partners we read about.

Holmes wouldn't take on such typical PI cases.

He would only be on the trail of say, evil land barons plotting ridiculously arcane, complex schemes to tip the balance of the entire metaverse in their favour.

I'm patiently waiting for the Lindens to put 'Moriarty' on the names list.

Yes, funny you should say that. I was reading about one such only a few hours ago . . .

Take heart. It's more dignified than being a mere "fangirl." :D

Why is it that I suspect that no one could pull that off quite as well as you?

*steps in for Pep in his absence

Your grammar is off to a good start and shows me that you'll probably fit in well with the type of people that would be doing PI work in SL

Search for Private Investigator (s) / Detectives) / Security in Search.

You'll likely fins a lot of pure role play listings, but somewhere in the results you may find what you seek.
Maybe someone already doing needs an apprentice / help / gopher

The previous comment about being wary of the TOS is worth paying attention to.

You are not allowed to pass around chat logs or IM logs within secondlife.com or in-world. If LL catches you doing that, which is pretty likely if the person you're tracking complains, they will not be amused.
