One down . . .

Pep ( . . . the rest of the male gender to convince.)

Oh, I suspect that you will find "the rest of the male gender" not quite so ready to accept your reductive "arguments" as you seem to think. Most males accept the need for "proof" to back up allegations.

And I rather imagine that Chris is a little horrified to find himself co-opted to your reductive point-of-view here.

So you are effectively arguing that you have no argument to contradict the expert opinion other than a comparison with a pachyderm, suggesting that one swallow *does* make a summer, and that intelligence isn't measurable anyway, so there . . . :p

on the contrary I quoted your own source, and I think the neanderthal comparison is more telling (but if you want there are more than elephants with larger brain pans, dolphins, whales, etc). the point being that even your "experts" said that where matters much more than overall size. Einstein is rather elegant proof both arguments.

From: someone
Pep (Maybe size does matter; have you seen the surveys that demonstrate that the majority of senior managers in US quoted companies are over six foot in height, and the Australian one that showed a significant correlation between height and salary? Not much joy for women there, eh?)

which has more to do with social domination than ability if you are talking about the same studies I think you are. never confuse correlation with causation, it's a bad trap.

I have mentioned this repeatedly: I came from an MMRPG where switching between views was as easy as clicking a button and one stayed IN that view until one clicked to another. Very seamless.

I would prefer to explore SL in a true first person view but the combination of using mouselook and then the movement keys not being quite a accurate is, imo, rather clunky.

Most of the time I'm in world is in first person.
Either I'm not vain or I have less need than others to watch my own avatar.

Have you realy tried "Mouselook" i.e. looking by mouse while moving with the "WSAD" keys?

Nothing clunky about that.

I use Mouselook at least as much as I can. I assume everyone else does but is that true? I couldnt have sex in sl without mouselook. It's much more intense watching an avatar up close. I use it in my gallery and art purchases and in simply seeing the world.

Do you use mouse or not?

wait.. I never used mouselook with sex.. hmmmm......

Don't - it is scary. As Lindal said, you too often end up looking into their body.

One thing I did like, was mouselook while in the MLP Gaze pose -- then you end up looking right into their eyes.

Are there any threads that Pep isn't arguing in? Then he goes and uses a quote with, "specific regions in the brain" in it to try and ...

Fork it, I am not wasting any more time on such a nut job.

...gray matter in specific regions in the brain is more related to IQ than is overall size.In general, men have approximately 6.5 times the amount of gray matter related to general intelligence than women.
'Nuff said?
No. Next time, give us the whole quote:
From: UC Irvine College of Medicine, 2005
In general, men have approximately 6.5 times the amount of gray matter related to general intelligence than women, and women have nearly 10 times the amount of white matter related to intelligence than men. Gray matter represents information processing centers in the brain, and white matter represents the networking of – or connections between – these processing centers.

This, according to Rex Jung, a UNM neuropsychologist and co-author of the study, may help to explain why men tend to excel in tasks requiring more local processing (like mathematics), while women tend to excel at integrating and assimilating information from distributed gray-matter regions in the brain, such as required for language facility.

And, also, please give citations if you are going to quote research. Your quote is a mix of text from 2004 and 2005, most misleading.

Performance art is one thing, misrepresenting researchers another. If you don't know the rules, stay off the playing field.

This is the strangest claim I've read in these Forums for months. Jig, you do know how to alt-zoom and control-alt-pivot the cam, right? By comparison, Mouselook is incredibly limiting. I mean... *incredibly*.

I cannot begin to imagine using Mouselook for anything intimate. (Well, actually I *can*, but only for a line of products that don't yet exist outside my filthy imagination. :o )

Nope. I look at teh person in mouse. It's a turn on. You'd be surprised. I use the cam also. I try and use mouse as much as I can anyway, SL looks way different from that perspective.

Braaaaaaains!

I have a brill animation I'll have to find that is perfect for mouselook and makes it look liek the man is really humping you. Scylla will also confirm that I seem to get very close in sex anyway with my camera.
You'd be surprised how real it all gets.

Please don't ask me HOW I can confirm it . . .

Oh, very nice, Nika! This rather resembles his use of a Wikipedia article (which he did not cite) on the subject of the effects of testosterone. I'm seeing a pattern here . . .

Thanks Virtual Scylla-Sister.
Listen I'm going to be travelling to East Coast so I am gonna be off line now for a few days. Don't worry world, I will be back as soon as I connect my new computer up and see if I can download SL.
Scylla, make sure our virtual mother Laurin - and Deira - stay sober as much as possible. Laura is into virtual Benedictine by now. We need that christmas pic soon.

Ok, Jig, will do. Godspeed, and hurry back.

I'll do my best for Mumsy and your foster mother. It'll be hard: I've already caught Laurin hollowing out a Christmas pud with the obvious intent of secreting extra brandy inside . . .

When I get that close to another avatar, I see inside the avatar's body. And their eyes kind of explode. It's the opposite of sexy.

I mostly use mouselook when I'm using guns in a role-playing sim. Sometimes I use it to see what my avatar's actual view in a situation is, but mostly I prefer third-person view.

The WASD keys will only move you forward, back, and side to side. They won't turn you. So you have to grab your avatar with your mouse hand and change its facing. That I find awkward.

In third person view, on the other hand, A and D turn your avatar just like the left and right arrow keys.

Unless something has changed since the last time I tried to use WASD while in mouselook.

I can't see anything in the extended passage that contradicts my summary. I *am* attempting to help the readers here by quoting selectively as I know from experience that most of the "females" here have a short attention span that would preclude reading lengthy and turgid posts; look how many of Scylla's attract the tl;dr comment, for example.

See? You had to post something - albeit content free - in a doomed attempt to obtain approbation.

A moment ago you were arguing that intelligence could not be measured. If the ability to use your capabilities to dominate socially is not indicative, then what is?
