Music thrives on SL. Radio, personal cds. concerts, internet streams, even teh musicians theleves (sorry - see what I mean! themselves) are all here. I hunt fo teh best stations I can and there are general lists of picks that are always updated. But, which three pieces of music are eseential to your in-world expereince and which radio station is teh one you think deserves teh gold star? WHY is the music you have chosen YOUR favourite? Are you a lover of classical? Rock? Country? talk and news - well which is teh best? My picks are Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis - Ralph Vaughan Williams Dark Side of teh Moon - Pink Floyd (I inherited the LP also ) and recently "Made in Medina" by Rachid Taha.

it's just too big of a list to make hehehe.. it all depends on my mood..although music can stir up a mood as well.. i love the stations in sl and love to stream my own music from my play list at times.. it could be slow jazz one day.native american mix or soul or funk or rock, hard rock, classic rock, dance,,no doubt 2pac's california love is a good mood shifter for me Ect... if it's been a hectic day i have to throw on Flyleaf or soil and get my scream on lol

I don't listen to inworld streams generally, preferring to listen to my own choices in music, if I want to listen to music at all. But if I do turn on a stream it is usually BeatlesRadio or Martini in the Morning, or a jazz station from Toronto I think, that I heard at the Savoy.
My tastes are primarily Jazz and Classical, 60's 70's and 80's stuff, and some ethnic: Salsa, Irish, Cajun/Zydeco. I also love Military Brass Bands.

Same, but mainly an opera buff, although I have eclectic tastes.

For music, my range of acceptable listening starts at classic rock & 80's hair bands and goes all the way up to the lower end of the really hard stuff... pass on the extreme screamy satanic death metal stuff though. I prefer heavy tunes, but it needs to be upbeat and well written. For streaming, try www.181.fm. They have like 50 different genre stations available and you can get inworld server addresses for all of them on Shoutcast. My skybox radio hasn't changed from the Rock 181 channel in quite a while.

Jig, the Vaughan-Williams Tallis Fantasia is the finest piece of music ever written in my opinion. It makes me feel joyous and sad and in the throes of the first flush of love and pining for lost love and very old and very young all at once. What can I say? Your tastes rock. You just rock. Anyway, I don't think I could play much music like that in world and stay focused on SL. I play ambient or downbeat electronica on my parcel as this relaxes me after working for Purgatory University all day.

SL is how I discover new music, things that I wouldn't have stumbled on if I were just surfing radio stations or buying CDs. Lately I've been listening to techno stuff from di.fm because I heard it while wandering SL.
After having been away for most of 2008, I *have* noticed that there are a LOT of sims that are silent these days though with no stream going at all.

I don't usually have sound on when I am in-world. But in the lounge in my skybox I do have a jukebox, for the convenience of my guests. It's programmed with varions Jazz, Classical and J-Pop (Japanese pop music) stations.
One member of my Household has a couple of instruments that will play various tunes in-world. Sometimes we listen to her perform, instead.

I don't listen to music much when I'm online, but I did export my iTunes library to Mediamaster so vistors to my land can get a taste of aural awesomeness that is the soundtrack of my Second Life.
Tom Lehrer Ennio Morricone Tegan and Sarah Hole Hindu Love Gods Divinyls The White Stripes The Dresden Dolls They Might Be Giants The Sex Pistols Dressy Bessy Garbage William Shatner ("Has Been" was the best album of 2004, I'm totally serious). The Chemical Brothers Lush Go-Go's Voice Of The Beehive
Mmmm... This is good!

Ennio Morricone, William Shatner, and The Sex Pistols in one playlist. Don't you think you should be a little more eclectic? I didn't see any Abba, or Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.

Any music with good melody and meaningful lyrics. I just can't stand any loud music (especially the shouting matches) because to me, they are harmful noises, not music. Sensitivity to loud music is from the fact I'm trained in classical piano music. I haven't listened to any English music for really long time, the last one I listened to was Angel by Sarah McLachlin (sp?).

At work I stream music, eighteenth and nineteenth European orchestral for preference, because it makes the dendrites fire happily and effectively.
But in SL, I like to listen to the birdsong and waves. It just makes me feel more immersed.

I hardly ever listen to sl music - it's usually only turned on if my dance partner says "I love this song" so I can assess their A/S/L etc - because it slows down my machine, offers opportunities to hackers and generally shows what poor taste the music selector has.

From: Ciaran Laval Crap, you've just reminded me that I still have the Christmas station at my mall! ROFL Ciaran...I was at Cherry Park last night...and sure enough, there was still Christmas music on! And to answer the question - usually 80s, when I have radio controls.

The station I have on most is Martini in the Morning. A dear friend introduced me to this station. He and I would wake up early to meet, and this was the station we'd dance to. Lovely memories. My tastes are very ecclectic otherwise. I listen to anything from acoustic jazz guitar, to world music, to classical. My usual runs to 80's alternative, or I'll try and search out something that is an off-shoot from this type of music. I once found a station that played garage rock from the 60's which was fantastic. Had that one on for at least a month but never remembered to write down/save the station. I'm terrible about doing that and always regret it but on the other hand, usually manage to find something interesting to listen to.

Given the choice, I'd rather attend a live show in SL than listen to a stream.
Music IS thriving in SL. It's a great place for musicians to get out and be heard, and there are some brilliantly talented musicians doing just that. Much better than a canned internet stream IMO.
