Second Life is Dead.

Today, SL has effectively committed suicide.

As free accounts make up an enormous part of SL’s economy, SL’s economy shall now experience the Great Depression.

The PN has accomplished its goals. We will now move on to jucier targets.

—————-

It references SL temporarily suspending logins for no-payment-info accounts, but I guess serves as a fig leaf for the You-Know-Whos we haven't been hearing from lately.

Bye, fellas. You won't be missed.

Wow, that's a gross exagerration. They simply reserved the upper spots in the logins for paid members. And that is true. That if you are not registered and there are some amount of people, see even I have no clue. But if the grid is at some capacity then logins for unpaid are capped.

You may want to check your credit card bill, it does say registered by your name, which isn't a free account.

Let the Pre Adolescent Pantloads think they have succeeded. They can go show their little weenies somewhere else.

You have Payment Info On File, so your details are registered. You paid something at some point, so you aren't a free account. :)

To my dear friends:

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that I will not be logging into the platform Second Life (TM). The PN said it was dead so it must not be there anymore.

After all everything you read on blogs is real.

Signed,

Mac

PS

No you can't have my stuff. It obviously doesn't exist anymore kthnxbai.

I think the problem is their client stopped working like they needed it to... and their attacks were at best annoying.

As for the restricted logins, it's not done at all. Except as grid wide when there are issues

But I know it's true . They said they wouldn't let free accounts in...and every time one tried, they would kill a kitten. It has to be true, I read it on a Internets Forumz

God, is this forum running slow for anyone else?

There was a blog that linked to an article (That is vague as Hell, Mac... Yes, I know but I can't find it now and I have tried) that said they did it that one time when the Herald made that article about it. It lasted about 7 mins and on review the Lindens have decided that program no longer fits and they likely won't be doing it again.

If anyone knows where that blog post or article was I would be very grateful if you could link it. :D

I believe it was Reuters:

http://secondlife.reuters.com/stories/2008/06/19/linden-confirms-login-restrictions/

LL did it once on the 12th, has no plans to do it again.

It is good for them, if they really buy it.

As said before, their little griefer viewer was made bunk due to something on the LL side. They relied on old scripts in a lot of cases that the new Havok upgrade and the gray goo fence feature put in by the Lindens rendered most of it useless.

Just like the big "Dissention" attacks. Cubes rezzed and poofed almost right after.

LL has done some good steps to stop this type of griefing and DOS attacks.

So, if they want to claim a victory when they are effectively put down.. I guess if it works for them.

Of course! They're walking away from SL - how could it have been anything but a victory?!?!?1

I must admit, I do have a perverse sadness that the good, old fashioned grid attacks no longer happen. These days, griefers appear to have no imagination.

I suppose that when griefer attacks occured, they did bring the SL community and LL closer together in our common suffering, like happens in RL times of hardship, but on balance an SL without griefers would be a much nicer place.

Anyway, if they're gone, good riddance!

oh my god are you serious? common suffering? floating pink genitalia are hardships?

WOE IS ME, FOR I CANNOT HAVE SEX ON THIS POSEBALL WITH ALL THESE PENISES IN THE ROOM!

I fully understand how troublesome griefers can be as a one-time administrator of a FPS server, but really? Common Suffering? Comparing flights of cocks to a Hurricane-Katrina level disaster? Is it really that serious business?

And again you do show not too much knowledge of the platform (and its history). And again: I do not mind you are playing the virtual hooker in SL, but it is kind of ignorant to think the grid is nothing more then the world you live your SL in...

Furthermore, the only thing said, is that both grid-attacks attacks and real life disasters resulted in more closeness between people involved. No one suggested they are as bad, and have the same impact. Only 1 effect they have in common.

Now without wanting to sound too unfriendly: Either you are a troll and enjoying our reactions, or you are ignorant. Both would be enough reason to either stop posting or think before you put on Submit.
