SL is a world right? It's obviously not a recreation of Earth because, well it's different. So what is the world called? Why hasn't it got a name? The continents have names, the islands have names, and everything and everyone on the world has a name, even if it is just 'object'.
We should name it.
I vote for Planet Porky.

SL is not a planet. SL is flat. There is no way to get from the eastern end of the map to the western end by walking or flying. There is no way to cross the ocean between islands either. Planets are not flat or discontinuous.

Makes sense to call it Agni since that's the name of the server. If it's not Agni, I vote for "Esselle"

For some reason when I saw this, I mis-read it as "Edsel". Make of it what you want. Cheers! -Atashi

That's Earth's moon up there in the sky, but I really don't think of it as a planet at all, but another dimension where we are all ghosts in the machine.

Columbus:yes dear!!! oh and whats for supper?Roberto and me are starving for that one thing you made with the pasta and cattle. Ceka: oh you like my lasagna hamburger helper do you? sorry it's late at night and i'm in a goofy mood

Crikey... I only thought it was called SecondLife Grid.
fwiw.. The mob over at OpenSim had some crazy plans/options to make their grids spherical at some stage. May still be in their distant feature list.

I think that Agni is the name of our dimension. On Aditi, it's all the same places and people, but everyone is fabulously wealthy and has a beard. Apparently when The Providers named it Linden World, it was all a big mistake and they've since hoped that people would kind of forget about the whole thing, but it keeps resurfacing, much to their chagrin. http://ondrejka.blogspot.com/2008/01/metaverse-memory-lsl1.html

I think the map should be updated so that the watery voids between islands are marked with "Here Be There Monsters" or some such thing. And instead of bouncing off the edge of private islands you should be able to fly freely into the void only to meet with certain death at the hands of some terrifying beast. You know. Sort of like Ski Free, updated for the new century.

I just refer to it as "the world" the same as in RL I refer to the planet as "the world".

Unless you have catalogued every planet in the universe I don’t think you can categorically say that a flat or discontinuous planet isn’t possible. Look at the Discworld for example. That is flat. You can fall off the edge. Next you will be telling me that giant turtles hurtling through space with worlds on their back aren’t possible either.

I've always assumed it's somewhere in the South Pacific, hundreds of miles from any other land and discovered by Linden Lab.
