31k now...

Maybe thats how many system resources are being wasted on camping...?
And I bet they are not even "Premium Members" *winks*

Seriously though why are we wasting all this energy running servers full of nothing?

But its as always, Viewer tells me Grd is Online, no Blog Entry nothing.

Sorry but thats more then annoying , hat we only read this short message "closed for Maintenance" and nothing more i was online 2 minutes ago and all was working good, so what the hell is going on again.

How should we earn money and keep our bussinesses running if the grid goes down every few days and had the same old Problems every 2 day.

Grid status is not posted on the blog anymore and they're not kicking anyone who's already in off, so the grid is technically online. Logins are disabled, however.

paying for a service and not receiving it
06-29-2008 02:33
When my cable or utilities companies go down i am entitled to an adjustment according to time without service.

If you pay for a service and do not receive it,isn't that stealing?

Well I think its quite rediculous that I cant log in and have no clear place to see why the F. i cant log on...

Keeping all issues and problems hidden from the frontpage and blog of Secondlife.com is VERY misleading to newcomers !

Depends on the terms of service, in this case you agreed that LL is not responsible for down time.

Not if you agreed that you might not receive the service, and you did just that if you have an SL account.

Too right. Launay tells us that "Grid status is not posted on the blog anymore" - that's a GOOD thing? Sigh. SNAFU...

First of all, stop sniping at me for passing along valid information. Secondly, they posted the change to a dedicated status page several weeks ago ON the blog. Thirdly, it's back up.

Its not what you say, its the way you say it. Dig into your inventory, you might find a sense of humour somewhere in there...

The thought occured to me that LL isn't putting any more significant money into the hardware systems. Concurrency reached 60k a few months ago and then stopped going up. At ~60k, the system creaks and leaks, and it's been that way for months now - it's slightly more than the limit that the current hardware and/or infrastructure can support. I know that is isn't just a case of adding more servers, but it's been several months since we hit the limit and nothing has changed since then.

Right, because I was serious regarding a serious issue, I have no sense of humor. I find fault in your logic.

I think the new servers improved things. They were an addition to the asset server system, and asset server problems appeared to decrease. More recently, it's mainly the database system that's been acting up, although they don't always say which part is broken.

Interesting point. I'm on a Basic Account but I would be quite happy to pay a retrospective one-off fee (without upgrading). And I'm sure that if LL charged everyone a small fee (say 10 USD) once they had been inworld a certain time (3 months, say, to allow anyone who didn't like the Second Life experience to simply Cancel their account), then they would get enough capital to upgrade their hardware (assuming a regular population base of 150,000, that's $1.5m, enough for some new servers!)

It really isn't difficult for LL to put a link to the status page up there on the tool bar by What is Second Life? Showcase etc.

You're assuming those logins are all active and human. A large amount will be bots.

Why dont' they update the grid staus if its maintence?

They used to do routine maintenance every other Wednesday. Personally I think turning the whole grid off like that worked a lot better, even if it was always prime time for the UK and Europe. Of course, in those days there were significantly more people in the States than in Europe so nowadays it's less practical.

As I said in the other thread, I work in online gaming, our systems occasionally need to shut at short notice. Maintenance is maintenance whether it's been planned and announced, or it's "Holy Sockdrawers, that is FUBAR" emergency maintenance.
