Has anyone heard when Bay City will go up for auction? (Besides "just over a week" from May 8th?) Seems like Monday the 19th would be a likely day, but hey, I'm just guessing.

No idea, but I'd like to get a plot and build something totally anachronistic on it.

No idea, but I'm hoping to get a plot and build something keeping within the feel of the region.

Personally I think it should open the day after the area actually works. As in when it stops taking 3 minutes to rez vehicles, attachments actually survive the tp to the region and getting in a vehicle and moving doesn't turn into a game of Tetris or Warlords, LOL

In other words, November 15th of next year :D

My understanding that Monday-ish should see the first plots coming up for auction.

Just a short while ago, I checked the Map for green dots.
Not many - as in maybe 5 in the whole collection of sims, and each one alone.
I TPed in near the cinema. The dot there was a noob wearing a device that spammed me multiple times with blue boxes offering website / landmark / free L$ / yadda-yadda.
I explained to him the error of his ways - how spamming was a pain. On the face of his response, he was going to dump the thing.
He was keen to learn of any ways to get L$ without spending RL money. I wasn't a lot of help to him I'm afraid.

I TPed over to the empty bowling alley, and played on 3 lanes simultaneously. Too lazy to play all 4, and maybe a bit rude just in case anyone showed up.

Meanwhile over the bridge in Barcola/Mirimar etc, the usual cluster of dots was showing on Map.

Do merchants near infohubs make more L$ than they would in any other part of SL???
Is 'high-traffic area' just a mistaken import from RL.
Barcola and the other sims are a hangout. Do the hangouters spend any L$ there? Does the presence of a large community of hangouters discourage visits by people who would spend L$?

I think that Bay City is simply a bit of SL with zoning.
That would be good for people who would simply like to have a build in such an environment.
I don't believe that it will be significantly better for merchants than would be any other area.

Maybe someday they'll come out with Blood City.

*sigh*

What is Bay City? I keep hearing the name. I would do a forum search but "Bay" is too short to search. I would check in world but I never think of it at the time i'm in or I get side tracked :)

Bay City is a 12-sim urban development on the Mainland, built by Resident volunteers, for Linden Lab. It has a lot of roads and canals, with working drawbridges over the canals, and the parcels are double-prim. It's an experiment in doing Mainland zoning, mostly. Seeing how people respond to Linden-owned Mainland that has a covenant that restricts how you can build there.

Has any of the Bay City land turned purple yet?

Unless they manually stuff it higher in the auction queue, land turning purple is usually a sign that the auction will be in (at least) a couple days.

Last I looked, it was still red. Then again, I only looked in one sim: they could be rolling these out in chunks.

I'm not picky, I'd be happy to just take all of Moose Beach... :D That's an amazing area, I could spend a lot of time just loafing there!

I think if any businesses open close to the bowling alley, that would be prime spot for "walk-by traffic" (or more like 'fly-by" in SL). When folks discover that bowling alley, I notice they usually play over & over for at least 30 minutes, and then hang around outside like they are wishing there were shops around.

Actually ALL of the "Landmark Structures" up in Bay City are kinda like that. They are well-built (for the most part), and most of em have the best texture-work, inside jokes, etc...so they end up as "tourist attractions", even as sparse as the traffic has been as of yet. Just imagine how the traffic will increase w/ more stuff to do around.

Even w/ the invisible pot-holes in the ground, and the crappy region hand-offs that orbit or sink you... folks keep goin back. Bay City has a lotta potential. I dunno about "stayin within period" guidelines, as in the time period...but just decent looking buildings, with homes placed more like neighborhoods, and business districts made to entertain...well, if it was done right...SOME ppl would never leve the damned neighborhood unless they were shoppin for dance animations or somethin.

I spotted you over there the other day while flying by. Be cool if ya did get some space over near there, though :-)

Just a slight nitpick. The resident "moles" from the Linden DPW are not volunteers. They are paid aproximately 10US$/hour.

Watching those too. Interesting that they started from that end of Bay City: the more desirable parcels, rather, are on the Eastern edge -- over near "Hot Balls" and "Cafe Deco"

...ain't surprised. Those are gonna be the spots to draw the most visitors to Bay City for a while.

I am thinking that Bay City with all those small parcels could lead to a situation where the sim gets full due to people just hanging out at Linden areas and all the small parcel owners cannot get in to their homes.
