Winning money in contest.
Getting a Job lots of hosting, dancing, escort jobs its seems. Getting hired usually involves clubs that you regularly attend. Usually pay is tips. Learning how to make things and having people buy things from you, if you're lucky. I make lot of things they rarely sale, even people who make 100x better things me their products rarely sell so sometimes business or running one isn't always easy way to do it. Camping if you can find it. Going Premium, they you always get 300L a week for 9.95 a month or 72 dollars a year without need to buy L. Buying items for free and reselling them to those who don't know any better, although it won't win or impress many friends but I don't know of very many people who've got banned for doing this either...Although there seems to be lot who are doing this. I wouldn't recommend this but feeling bit grumpy so I thought I included it. Forgive me. There is more options too out there. _____________________

Also, DON'T go camping.
Camping gives you about 2 L$ per 15 minutes most of the times. But recalculate what you need to do for that. 1: You need to camp, and run your computer to do this. Unless you camp and use your computer for other things at the same time it's good. Walk away = bad. Why? Because electrical power costs more than 2 L$ every 15 minutes to keep your computer running. Then better just buy the dollars you need. _____________________

when I was starting, I tried camping. After about 15 minutes of that, I realized it was nothing but a waste of time for me, too boring!
Then I searched for every freebie I could find, put together a few outfits and entered contests and sometimes won, could make a few hundred linden a week doing that. You can make money dancing, but no one is going to hire you till you have a decent skin and hair, so first you need $$ to make $$, and there is money in dancing if you work at the right place and emote/converse well. Until quite recently I still danced to pay for uploads ![]() _____________________

Tough one.
- Camping in places that pay 2 L or around that amount for 10 or 15 minutes. - Harvesting money trees. - You could apply for a job. A good look is often required and it's hard to look good on only free stuff. Most will not hire new people before they are 4 weeks old since many quit SL fast. - To make and sell stuff in SL is hard. It's tough competition. You could start just with camping and harvesting money trees. Find the "search" tab and use it. Try to use it for more than "Free", "Camping" and "Money Trees". Attend classes, talk polite to people. Don't beg for money. You just look pathetic and 99 of 100 will just frown. The last 1 might give you 10 L, but is it really worth it? If you become friends with people they help you, teach you things and some may give you stuff they don't use anymore or stuff they made. They just don't like people who come up and beg. They have used their own real money in SL, so they expect others to do the same. If you like SL, you just buy Linden dollars after a few weeks. _____________________

just like the real world, the best way is to learn a trade and work it.... nuff said
a trade can be anything... from dancing (it's the interaction that pays off) to making things and selling them (builds, textures, clothes, skins, gadgets).... and if you have the money to put into your vision you can try the investment/managment angle (real estate, products by commission, match-making[no I'm not kidding], etc. the trick is to pick something you want to learn about or try, and start in on it... me I tried doing the store thing, but dealing with customers is not my cup of tea, so I script, mostly custom work now, and it keeps me in new shoes with plenty of time to socialize =) _____________________

The best way to make quick money is to invest a bit first.
Buy a few thousand L$, buy some good looking outfit, and then get hired by a good running club. Dancers are often hired, and earn a lot. All you have to do is dance, and make sure you are good at it. People will tip you, and you get paid for running your hours. See a job in SL as a real job. It costs you time and effort for money. Or if you are creative, go to any sandbox, create stuff, and sell them in places that get a lot of traffic. Be aware of the traffic boasters though. They make bots log in and off from the parcel, making it look popular. But really isn't. These people should be banned in my opinion. But oh well. _____________________

If you're under 30 days old, go to Gurl 6 and send in a voucher for free hair. Visit Sirena hair as well - she has 1L$ styles. Hunt for lucky chairs wherever you go. Search for "treasure hunt" and spend time picking up the cash and freebies. There are some OK freebie and cheap skins out there, so don't worry TOO much about a skin, but there are also skins for under 500L$ if you really want one. Anything but the noob default skins will get you a non-stripper job! Start developing a personal style - are you goth, punk, preppy? Are you human, neko, furry, vampire, elf, etc. There's no need to limit yourself to just one of these, but pick a few favorite looks until your budget allows for more.
Go to Grendel's Children and pick up a few fun creature avatars - they have tons and they're inexpensive, some even free. Search for contests at clubs, and enter with your Grendel's avs. You will win often, in my experience! Talk to people, make friends, find a club or clubs you like. Then apply to work there, with your skin, hair, and the wardrobe you can now afford thanks to your contest winnings. Above all, have fun! |

All you have to do is dance, and make sure you are good at it. People will tip you, and you get paid for running your hours. I dont agree that all you have to do is dance because i would expect a newbie to just sit on a pole and not have say $$$ worth of animations in a dance controller. What they do have to do is emote and entertain and not just expect tips to come their way merely because they have sat on a poseball yet i see that often with new dancers. Here's one for you - pose ball demo partner. Yes i am serious. Plenty of poses that require more than one av so contact animators and work out a commission. You will not be the first person to try this. Many things are sales oriented though and that is not for everyone. My prefered suggestion is as stated, buy $10 worth or so of linden and look good early. As for camping and power costs, run multiple clients. I earn $62 a month and it certainly does not cost anywhere near that to run the computer. |

Wasn't running multiple accounts on one computer against the rules?
I don't really care or anything, but I suppose you can get banned for running bots to get your money. I won't risk such a ban ![]() But okay, so dancing isn't all about sitting on a poledance poseball. You need to talk, chat, entertain, and do things a normal dancer/entertainer would do. SO newbies don't have much experience, but such things can be easily learned. _____________________

Look at all the bots running around, if anything it's encouraged by being able to have multiple acounts for FREE! On topic, find something useful for SL (building, scripting, hosting....) Try not to spend too much time wasting time, it gets you no where fast! |

personally I suggests to avoid Jobs right out of the gate, these are rarely any different from a job RL. You have to show up in time and or for good many hours to get anywhere, and if you don't enjoy what you are doing it will leave a bad taste in you mouth for SL.
Instead I suggests Money Tree farming for you first 30 Days as some one else suggested and a HoppyPay Hud that pays you to explore. Then farm those trees, done be afraid to try a conversation with others plucking Linden, and explore this will help wrack up the L$ on you HoppyPay Hud and that you can use for as long as you like. Then when you find who you are in SL and what you would really like to do, look more into that profession. I did not start working for L$ until a good couple months into it. So much to do is free, there are so few places that you have to pay to see that at first L$ is just to make you look better. And that is were you have to find yourself, pick you look. Talking to others is free as well. Hope you enjoy your Second Life. |

Make stuff people want. Thats how I did it. Works f'r me! I don't make a great amount off my stores, but I clear a fair number of Lindens. More'n I'd make camping or takin' surveys f'r that time. _____________________

Virtual employment is the best answer for new players that are still learning SL Skills. There are plenty of entry level jobs listed at the Club School Jobs and Freebies Area. Just teleport to http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bear/64/186/107 and click the boxes to get notecards explaining each job and who to contact. _____________________

Everyone has pretty much covered all the bases. Just a few things to note:
1. If would like to own land you get an extra benefit from premium membership because you pay no monthly fees on your first 512 sqm of mainland. 2. Any SL source of income, whether it be as a creator/landlord, creator/seller, hostess/dancer etc. bears the danger of detracting from your overall SL experience if you look to it primarily with an eye towards drawing an SL income. If you don't draw a fair amount of happiness from the act itself of creating and overseeing your estate, creating things as a seller, hostessing parties and venues etc. you'll have little to nothing to fall back on during moments of frustration. |

Not to mention that The Kid is in high demand for fireworks shows. That barge beats your average lemonade stand all hollow as a profit center. ![]() _____________________

camping with Sleek a text based client while I watch movies or play eve or go to bed make about 50 up to 100 a day. not too bad when i don't feel like doing anything in sl and play other games/movies/etc.
the text based client uses very little resources so can just minimize it and do whatever... |
