And when I go back to the previous version (1-19-0-5), all I can do is crash at login. Tried complete uninstall/reinstall of 1-19-0-5 and no help, crash crash CRASH and I hate Lindens more than ever. Can anyone help or shall I give away my paltry 2500 L$ and forget about it?

For me 1.19.0 sucked as a viewer it crashed all the time, 1.19.1 is much more stable, and I find the latest RC 1.20.8 ok too. _____________________

I have trouble with the sl clients too but found the on-rez client to be more stable granted it seems to be a version of sl without the pretty skies, I'll continue using it till I get my new pc with a graphics card that doesn't crash using the sl client. http://viewer.onrez.com/

I havent noticed any problems other than usual.
Quasi: When you uninstall/re-install, try a restart. Let the Registry clean itself up, as Windows may still retain bits of it somewhere. Make sure all folders/files for SL are deleted and deleted from the Trash. _____________________

Could you clue us to which OS this is on? If it's XP (wild guess) or Vista, I'm with Tegg: I'd upgrade to the Release Candidate (1.20 RC
. Dazzle is an eyesore but you'll soon enough need to get past the Windlight problem anyway, and the 1.20 series fixes a bunch of b0rkiness that's been around since forever and remains in all current third party viewers (except, I think, the very latest of Nicholaz's).If Windlight was really crashing you at login (not at startup of the app itself), and if it still does it with the new RC install, then I'd recommend going into Edit/Preferences/Graphics from that login screen, and "dumbing down" Windlight as much as possible, clicking the "Customize" checkbox and turning off as much as you can, and hitting that "Hardware" button and from the resulting dialog toggling off Vertex Buffer Objects, and maybe shrinking the texture memory by half. Don't need to keep all this stuff that crippled, but it may be easier to add one thing at a time from a working install. If none of this works, further help will kinda depend on knowing the hardware environment, from the top of Help/About Secondlife. _____________________

I heard some resently inworld saying they are having problems withthe release client. I am using XP pro with a 7900 gtx extreme........It appears that the current build is better suited for 8000 series grahic cards and up.........

Using XP pro but integrated graphics...I'd be happy if I could reinstall 1-19-0-5 and get it to work. After uninstall it tells me there is leftover shit and prompts me to remove it and I do. Reboot is no help, continue to crash at login.

I get far fewer lock-ups and crashes (i.e. 1-2 per week, rather than 3-4 per day) using the Nicholaz EC-f viewer. I can even pump my windlight settings fairly high (1920x1200, all sliders maxed, reflect stationary objects, all other features active, 256m draw) and still get acceptable performance.
If you can live without Windlight, the Nicholaz BE-v viewer still works, too. _____________________

what are your computer specs?
Many are better off using 1.19.05 I am. The rlease client is nice. But its so far buggy for many. _____________________

Reboot is no help, continue to crash at login. Uninstall? Hmm I just install every new version of SL into a new directory named SecondLife 1.xx.x, Copy the shortcut to my desktop. Then a week or so later when the new one is proven, and the old RC becomes useless, I drop the previous shortcut & folder in the recycle bin. That way I still have at least 2 or 3 current working versions of the viewer. I run XP on a 2 year old 2.2 dual core with a 8800 and 4Gb ram. The Nicolaz viewer is highly recommended, though I have never had enough trouble logging in to warrant installing it. Only time I can't get logged in are occassionally at peak load on weekends, so I just go fix the car or something instead. _____________________

Total Annhilation fried one of my CPU's & motherboards, thet Real Earth scaled map with a couple thousand units controlled by 4 AI's crawling around nuking each other seemed to be a bad thing................ Perhaps you should talk to Dell about an upgrade from the word processor pack ............. ![]() _____________________

Basically you use a Linden Viewer, either 18.5.0. 18.5.3 or the 19 series viewers. You install the Nicholaz exe over it, along with a couple of other files and your done. _____________________

...integrated graphics... Integrated chips can't really run SL. As the technology progresses you will have more and more problems I'm afraid. If you can possibly drop in a "real" video card I think it would solve alot of your troubles. You don't *need* top of the line. I got a 6600 for $20 which is playable. It's not spectacular, but it's gotta blow the doors off integrated. _____________________

But as Vamp said your better off with a physical graphic card and mother board then a build in model type. I have a Old 6600GT if anyone needs it. _____________________
