I've wondered about this for ages now, so I've decided to put it up here. I have two children in RL, but I don't understand people who want to play a pregnant av. It doesn't bother me, although the talking tummies can be a tad intrusive sometimes. But I'd genuinely like to know what the attraction is. I had a friend go through an SL pregnancy, and she even threw a baby shower, so perhaps it's the gifts? Maybe it's to guage the reactions to pregnant women in certain situations. I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this.

I think SL is for some folks a place to act out fantasies. As a mum in RL, I can understand someone wanting to do a trial run in SL.
As for me, doing it in RL was quite enuf.

Hi Pixie =)
I've done this twice in SL, the first time was because when I came to SL a friend was doing the whole SL pregnancy thing & I was simply curious & wanted to see what it was like, just like i'd buy a dog here maybe. I sorta see it as the same as buying a pet, house, partnering etc .. to me SL is great for doing what I can't do in real & unfortunately I have a disease called Endometriosis & can never have kids for real, I guess this is the closest I can get & just how some might take pleasure from decorating their sl house or buying a pet, I tried it. (Agree with the belly spam too, horrible stuff!)
I really don't know how to explain it, but it does produce some emotion in some ways, i'm not insane enough to think it's real though lol. For some it's just the natural step after partnering & marrying in SL. I wouldn't do it again but i'm glad in a way I did, I know it can't take the place of having kids but at least the SL me had some fun I guess. I'm pretty sure if I had kids RL it's not something i'd ever have tried in SL & it's not something people can understand I guess unless they've done it, still people do all sorts, BDSM, Gor, partnering, marriage etc etc it's just another SL experience
(No I didn't have a baby shower, christening or anything like that lol it was something I was curious about & did for me & me alone)
Sorry I can't be of more help, I can't explain it really but it was an interesting experience! Wanna babysit?? *Runs*

the talking tummy
12-08-2007 09:57
Ive just experinced an SL pregnancy & birth and now love playing happy families The talking tummy CAN be turned off...i used to switch mine to mute so only i heard it when i was out...not because i cared a hoot what anyone else thought but because i felt it was private to me & my partner . Second life is all about experiencing things...and I wanted to do this, no different really than a whole lot of other stuff people choose to do in SL , like weddings, adoptions, pets, homes, and on and on...i found it amazing but i had a great role playing clinic and a fabulous nurse who assisted at the birth (thanks Divinity matova!)I guess iam curious about stuff...i LOVE trying new things....and this ROCKED I adored the pregnancy belly.(eventually!! lol)..the new clothes...how my partner was sooooo excited (we chose NOT to know the gender before the "birth" and most importantly...it was FUN.!! We both agreed if we tried this and we didnt find it fun or it became a bit *too weird*...wed stop...however, it was fab. Dont knock it until youve tried it !!! oh and btw...the talking tummy is xcite compatible - oh la la

Answering the question in the subject line: All the "no" in the world. Cubed and squared.
Granted, I'm biased--I don't entirely understand that in RL either... Oh, I understand the theory alright; the biological imperative to reproduce as an urge that lives in the brain and sometimes presents itself when one is socially and financially capable of carrying through, and/or emotionally mature enough to accept the responsibility that goes with it, all good things, else our species would cease to exist. That's a fine thing, keeps us from going extinct.
It's just that I personally seem to've had those bits of my brain accidentally replaced by a tasty cream-cheese filling whilst I was paying attention to other things. ^^
So no, no babies for me in either life, thenkyew.

With the current earth population and growth rate, i don't think pregnancy is something that should be promoted in any ways on earth. Sadly some peoples seems to be genetically programmed to want to have kids, i wonder what would happen if we where limiting every couple on earth to 0.5 child (yes one child for two couples)
We are just too many, if you want to feel pregnancy so badly, get an implant -_-

From: Hiro Queso So who's going to support all the exclusively elderly people roaming the planet in 50 years time? Support? If your solution to supporting the elders is to have each year more and more youngsters to support the growing amount of elders, it is a bit flawed to think it's a theory that will hold for long on this little ball of earth.

Of all the general discussion thread topics that get started here, this is my favorite next to "Is it cheating?".

From: Kyrah Abattoir Support? As medical science continues to advance, people are living longer and longer, and as a result, the percentage of the population that elderly is set to increase. People at that stage of life are reliant are the younger more able members of the population to support them, both financially, and directly. If birth rates are reduced drastically, you will increase the percentage of the population represented by older people even further, there are then even less 'workers' per elderly person, and you eventually get to a point where the general population can not satisfy the needs of the elderly. Sorry, going off topic! <goes to corner>

condoms...that reminds me
12-08-2007 12:55
IF youre gonna go down the whole pregnancy route in SL...splash out and get the Tantra package...its for conception and is SOOOO funny. It tells you how likely you are to conceive and after simulating sex (you have to wear xcite stuff btw) it then asks you...HOW you did it so it can calculate if you are , or are not preggers lol. It times your ovulation cycle...AND....gives the guy a condom, you the pill or diaphram...AND decides if the condom has broken or not ....
its.....HILARIOUS

It's not for me, I'd have to keep trying on new outfits and asking Cherry "Does my bum look big in this?"
