There. You've been duly annointed. Now go forth and spread the word.

I don't read all threads in RA, and I tend to come and I don't go through the titles in sequece.

Immediately before I read this thread, I read the "To lurkers and the seldom seen, new and old." thread.

For my part:
The OP did have a query. He described an event which had him very confused.
Responses came back that did not address the query.
Many new lurkers or seldom seens unfamiliar with individual humour and style of regulars here would have read the exchange as unfriendly.

The OP did get help in the end, but the cost to the good vibes in the RA forum was high.

Most forums have groups of regulars who get along well together.
This is good and bad.
One of the bad things is that if one of the group gets in a tangle with someone not in the group, then the other group members tend to join in on "their" side almost unquestioningly.

You're right. This thread certainly wasn't the best example of 'helpful'. While the immediate posts after his query weren't constructive, they weren't exactly snippy either. It just seemed to escalate once the OP got a little 'testy'. Although I thoroughly understand his impatience with some of the posters (believe me, I get testy, too), there are all types of personalities here, 'snippy' attracts 'snippy' in both RL and in forums .

I remember starting a thread a few weeks back - a real simple 'how to' question about inventory organizing. The first answer I got was just a comment (opinion) about my inventory, not an answer. It wasn't nasty or anything, but at that moment I just had to sigh, (and grumble). I eventually got a suggestion for my problem, and all was well.

When you are in the position of 'Asking', sometimes you have to rummage through what you get... Remember, we are all individuals here. No one represents the forum as a whole. Also, take into consideration that others may have a bad day or misunderstand.

ok I see I post a bit of humor and am the bad guy, jumped on, and made to be evil

for christ sake people lighten up, I have already been reprimanded and told I am a bad girl and hand my hand slapped (which felt more like a face slap)

as for resident answers/questions...

one needs a question to be able to answer it

"Repeats again for hard of hearing, this is Resident Answers, NOT Resident Questions, got to the Question forum if you need questions."

do you get out much? Do you enjoy being an ass? Do you really think that was witty?

Let me try to explain...
Resident Answers doesn't mean that people post only answers to start a thread... or is the concept of people posting questions that others answer, in the Resident Answers forum, seem a little too hard for you to grasp???

And Czari hon.... if I am part of this clique then you are too, I will drag you in kicking and screaming if I have to... (you might end up having to drag me in)

I think one of the other issues is this: Not every question is gonna have an answer. I had no answer for it, so I did't reply. I s'pect it's true of others. So ya, it took a bit for the OP to get a useful answer. Sorry it did, but I do s'pect few here did have a possible answer, too.

Also, take into consideration that others may have a bad day or misunderstand.

The fact that we don't have body language, facial expressions or voice tone here makes it hard to tell where posters are coming from sometimes too. What's meant as the kind of friendly ribbing designed to make someone feel like part of the camaraderie may be taken as mocking rejection...

No it's just the people picking at the absolute need to have a question worded exactly as a question can get a bit repetative. Everyone whose been here a while knows this is the default GD forum by content so doesn't need a question. Just as if it were seperate GD, you wouldn't be allowed to ask a question there :P
And sorry if it was meant to be humourous reply, but I didn't see a smiley. I was under the impression from your post that getting questions was more important than giving answers.
And thanks for lowering this to insults........................ :)

just recently got this message in a blue pop-up and in the message window.

[10:01] IM: Second Life: Objects you own in Rundlelawn have sent out excessive messages and their messages have been temporarily deactivated. The last message sent was from 'Zilcx'. You should check on your objects in this region.

doing a search for "Zilcx" produces no results.
i should note that this message appeared about 10 minutes after the sim came back online, after i called concierge to have the sim restart from an accidental crash i caused.
i know what objects are here and what scripts they contain, none i know of that would send out repeated messages from "Zilcx".

Sometimes troublemakers create objects with the names of random avatars.

Possibly the dialog text was the result of someone being confused by hundreds or thousands of objects with avatar's names.

I lowered it to insults?

I have a feeling the comment about repeats for the hard of hearing was a bit of an insult in it's self....

being 1 we do not hear here, we read
so repeating implies I am unable to comprehend the written word

hence, therefor, insult in my book

As I said somewhere else, I didn't find the OP's question particularly clear, and I suspect others didn't either. A few people tried to help anyway (the big meanies), and his response was to immediately get nasty and accusatory. He could have just clarified instead.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
