just recently got this message in a blue pop-up and in the message window.

[10:01] IM: Second Life: Objects you own in Rundlelawn have sent out excessive messages and their messages have been temporarily deactivated. The last message sent was from 'Zilcx'. You should check on your objects in this region.

doing a search for "Zilcx" produces no results.
i should note that this message appeared about 10 minutes after the sim came back online, after i called concierge to have the sim restart from an accidental crash i caused.
i know what objects are here and what scripts they contain, none i know of that would send out repeated messages from "Zilcx".

well, thanks for the very informative humble response and reply to my post.
not being here too long, i have learned the ways of "residents" not only in SL, but in this forum as well.
i should have known that the "Resident Answers" sub-forum belongs to those high & mighty long tenure, long bearded king-wears-the-crown residents who post replies like a BMW tracks water. :D

Oh for pity's sake.

Rhaorth gave you the best response she could, and you come back with a sneer.
Well, I'm a forgiving sort, and a glutton for punishment, so I'll take a turn in spite of your rudeness.

I have a seagull who likes to wander off my sim now and then. The last time, he started shouting to me that he was "too far away" and gave his coordinates. He sent his cry about once every two seconds. I went there. No gull. I got messages from a neighboring parcel that entry had been refused my gull because of object entry restrictions. So I went there and checked, on the off chance. No gull.

I finally Muted the poor thing to keep from being driven nuts. A few days later, he was returned to my Lost and Found folder from the same sim that said he was denied entry.

I am still puzzled as to exactly what happened.

My suggestion to you is that you (and I) overlooked something. Go look again, more carefully.

And Rhaorth always claimed she wasn't part of our clique, but this proves that she must be. LOL - just goes to show how everyone sees things so differently around here.

well, the only explanation i could think of that may have caused this message to appear was due to the sim crashing and being offline for about 10 minutes.
i will leave it at that since no one here in the Second Troll forum seems to have experienced this phenomenon, and that i can get anything but a decent proper response other than "wise" remarks.
if anyone paid attention to my original post, this message that appeared for obvious reasons is not in relation to an object entering a parcel with no object entry set.
i have seen those messages before.
they dont appear as a dialog from "Second Life" and in general chat as "IM:Second Life"
better yet, ill come back and post when i own a dozen islands, a dozen openspace sims and have 4+ years tenure, perhaps then ill get "treated" more like the "trolling" crowd when that time comes.
i feel sorry for the n00bz pleading for help here as i have seen way too often simple questions answered with wise remarks.
it certainly doesnt encourage me to post my knowledge of info i would like to share here with the rest of the "know-it-alls".
have a great day.

It sounds like the sim may have had some kind of brief issue where it was a little confused. A few months ago in Keener land settings were nerfed where X parcel had Y name and media settings. The nerfing fixed itself after 10 minutes.

As for the mysterious message, sim estate managers can send blue dialog boxes (upper right corner notices) as well as scripted devices (and some greifing tools). Check the option in the estate tools to check active objects and make sure no unauthorized resident has something they shouldn't have out.

thanks for the much better reply.
i dont have access to the estate tools as this is mainland i have.
i believe this is a genuine dialog message, i have seen well scripted fake ones look quite genuine, but there are obvious tell-tale signs that its not genuine and plenty of methods to see its fake.
all the objects on this land have been inspected by me, i know the avatars who placed them, the count for each avatar and the object names and locations and i have full modify rights as well (in certain object circumstances).
the count has not changed nor was there any "others" objects on the land at the time of this message.
the time the sim crashed was duriing manipulation of a multiple coalesced .5m physical phantom object with no scripts, at which time (i should have known better) rezzing it from inventory, it did not appear, so i rezzed another and another.
little did i know the objects were colliding with each other to the point the sim FPS went to a crawl and eventually crashed.
i submitted a region down report and also noted that if possible, to remove the objects (if they still exsist) upon restarting the sim, for fear the same situation would repeat.
i was told that the objects would be removed before the sim went online. (i told them the name of the objects)
i do not know if that message had anything to do with all the events that took place, but its entirely possible since i havent seen that message again.

and to answer my own question, i discovered what caused the message to appear.
i have an object created by Thomas Conover called "SIM-Radar Ultra-Edition 8.4c".
it sends messages to the owner on general chat about who enters and departs the sim.
apparently, it decided to send all the messages at once, presumably between the time the sim crashed and came back online.
so hopefully, i have helped answer someone elses wondering and future questions as well.
the strange part is that the message came from Zilcx (read my first top post if you forgot).
thanks.

You too. Don't let the door hit you in the butt on the way out.

Sheesh. You'd think a guy who claims vast "knowledge of info" would know that only newbies spell it "n00bz", and would know the proper usage of the word "troll".

Perhaps it was meant ironically.

Repeats again for hard of hearing, this is Resident Answers, NOT Resident Questions, got to the Question forum if you need questions.

I don't read all threads in RA, and I tend to come and I don't go through the titles in sequece.

Immediately before I read this thread, I read the "To lurkers and the seldom seen, new and old." thread.

For my part:
The OP did have a query. He described an event which had him very confused.
Responses came back that did not address the query.
Many new lurkers or seldom seens unfamiliar with individual humour and style of regulars here would have read the exchange as unfriendly.

The OP did get help in the end, but the cost to the good vibes in the RA forum was high.

Most forums have groups of regulars who get along well together.
This is good and bad.
One of the bad things is that if one of the group gets in a tangle with someone not in the group, then the other group members tend to join in on "their" side almost unquestioningly.

I think it's quite possible this wasn't taken as a joke. I didn't think it was a joke....... It maybe just wasn't a great way to answer someone who isn't a regular poster? There are so few genuine questions here lately, it just seems a shame that the first answer wasn't a serious one.

It takes guts to jump in here and post a reply, let alone start a thread (I've only ever started one for fear of getting this kind of response).

For the record, I like you and agree with a lot of your posts :-) just not this one.

Edited to add: as Sling says above, this is particularly relevant after the thread encouraging lurkers to come out of hiding.
