I know there was a post about this before but its so bad I believe it needs to be commented on again. Has anyone taken a look at the list of last name choices lately? They completely and totally SUCK! I'd really like to know who has this job at linden cuz they need to either be fired or re-directed to a different dept. Come on linden, really, do you HONESTLY think these are good name choices??

Sommerland, did you know that LL recently began dividing up the list of names among 24 name servers? The list you get depends on the server you land on. You can, however, see the entire list and pick the server you register on using Adz Childs' great website,

I just tried it and got mostly German sounding names (Birnberg, Schulmann, ...). Maybe it's because my IP address points to Austria.
Do the names suck more than usual? Maybe if you're looking for a French sounding name  |

maybe all the Germans complained there wasn't enough German names, it's good to have different nationality names, but it would be good not to block release them and have some kind of mix

I decided to set up a 1940's film star-esque alt last night...and didn't, because the surnames just weren't suitable.
They were entirely Jewish/Germanic sounding; nothing against those two groups, but whatever happened to having lists of surnames with a bit of variety in them? When I first registered there was 'something for everyone', as it were; traditional English surnames, French, German, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese etc etc etc. Checking http://www.slnamewatch.com/botlog/last_avail_log.html didn't help much either - they were all pretty much the same, and each server only had around 35-40 different name options.. I had to wonder - are they trying to put people off from joining due to the asset server issues? |

I can see a lot of head room for silly compound last names that wouldn't necessarily appeal to new residents. But it's still fun using the current lists to come up with names for gimmick alts I would never ever have the time to play.

Lol I just looked at the list at SLnamewatch. They really do suck. It looks like they took they them right out of a German telephone book or something. Someone with a lot of pull at Linden must be German. Nothing against that country but how about a little VARIETY?? Ohh...ohh better go reserve "Schpigelblatt" before it changes. What a joke!
Lotsa good names here tho. I say they transfer these over and drop the others. |
