Not really interested in NFL. But if it was NHL I'd be interested so I could orbit Mika Kiprusoff for sucking so bad.

I am a pretty big football fan, and I still would have no intrest in having them in SL. Somebody suggested an in-world game to go along with it.. that has some potential though to be fun.

As for the athletes themselves... everybody is whoever they want to be in SL, so there is nothing special about them here.

Personally, I'd have to say no. I am entirely uninterested in football (and most sports in general).
But aside from that, I don't think sports celebrities have a lot to give a place like Second Life. As has been mentioned, artists, authors and scientists seem to be more "in the vibe".

It may be possible to drum up some actual event around it, like doing fantasy leagues as mentioned (anybody up for a game of Blood Bowl?) and have the players appear (or even play), or something similar, but just having them show up to be talking heads wouldn't really mean much, or make any difference from any other media appearance.
You need to turn it around and ask, what can the interactivity and the 3D world of SL give you (and the appearance/event) that you can't get easier, to a broader audience, in other ways?

I'd love to meet Mick Jagger in SL.

I'd also go see my fave authors (the living ones - I'd hate to see a zombie Harper Lee) like Nevada Barr, Barbara Kingsolver, John LeCarre, Neal Stephenson, etc...

Make it NASCAR drivers and then I'll be interested. Just make sure you ban Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson!

Even though I am a big Stones fan I think I'd rather meet Mick in SL than in real life... Well it would be pretty cool in rl I guess...

But I'd really LOVE to have a conversation with Neal Stephenson or Barbara Kingsolver any where.
